That isn't looking bad, the rearranged kitchen, came out better than I imagined, great work I think. You are doing great job. And I notice the back garden looking really great, come along way in these last few years, well done
January is such a long and miserable month. Thankfully almost gone. The days are stretching here in the NE of Scotland . Enjoying your ideas for your cottage 😊
Teddy looks so grown up! He looked like he was supervising your video work. He is adorable! I like watching your videos to see what you are doing with your house. Thank you for sharing all your thoughts about your kitchen, etc. Keep it up!
I think underfloor heating could be your answer. One time we were staying in a stone house airbnb in the French countryside, it was cold inside the house but they had underfloor heating in the seating area of lounge and dining area in kitchen and we stuck to those areas because sitting there with our feet on a heated floor kept us nice and warm, very confortable
My Burmese helper uses a hammer and chisel to remove the loose pieces in the cracks in the wall. Then he fills it with wall putty and smooths everything out. The next day he works it over with sandpaper and paints it with primer. I have never seen any other method. But if a house does not have a good foundation, the cracks will keep coming back.
Hi Marc, to fix your subsidence issues I would suggest the following: To fix the subsidence, the most common solution is to dig 1m x 1m holes in 3 meters intervals under the existing foundation and to pour new concrete into these openings. I think you should tackle the wall where you had the cracking issues first. Good luck!
You're doing a good job with your house.. adjusting and changing things around .. it's hard work, but worth it. Be happy. Thank you for taking us along (which also is hard work, I'd imaging)
We are elderly and we watch you with great enjoyment and gratitude for people like you Marc. You always makes us chuckle and you always warm our hearts regardless. Please don't get rid of us😊❤
Thrilled to open and find another. I ve noticed lots of people put little messages on their videos asking for polite comments only but I doubt the nasties would ignore that. Blocking seems the best. I like that pale gray. Soothing for a bedroom. Blind or curtain good idea. If Teddy can see you he will chat all night. He looks so cute and quiet looking at his lead butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth. Can you speak a bit of French. Someone in the hardware store should give advice on what to use for the cracks. Or you could email a shop in Britain and attach a photo. Good luck it looks fun. ❤
I had a full half inch crack along a hall wall going down the stairs a rental at the time and as far as i remember i just filled it with a filler from a DIY shop, sorry cannot remember what it was called but it was already made up and it never opened up again, could it be polyfiller...yes, and i didn't spread it thinly and just rubbed it flat afterwards.
Hello There fellow friends Marc and Teddy , Hope you are Both well and warm , Great video and your kitchen looks Great , i have a sink in my lounge ,well its a lounge with a kitchen on one side of the room and a massive Bay , which my 91 year old mom has made curtains for it out of duvet covers , and now have to fit a ceiling curtain rail , fun ay LOL, well all your videos are very interesting and enjoyable to watch , and useful , so keep them Coming , so Thank you for sharing , Keep up your Great work , Take care Marc and Teddy 🌟👍👍❤💙
Hi Marc l bought a roll of some stick on opaque window screen for a bathroom window, the light still comes through but you can’t see through at alI I bought it in action really cheap. It’s still up and no complaints.
Yes, your internal window, buy a cheap curtain wire and some material that you like, just a bit bigger than your window, hem the outsides but leave a run at the top for the wire to go through. Its cheap easy and effective. 😊
Hi Marc. Sorry you’re not feeling great today. Sucks. It’s getting too hot here. Middle of summer. Personally I love Spring and Autumn. I can’t wait to see the end result of your move around in the kitchen. ❤ we call them Negative Nancy’s. Hi Teddy. So cute.
I stopped watching for a few months as I was so busy with work. But, I’m back and enjoying the last couple of videos. I missed the arrival of the kitten, so I will go back and re watch those videos.
My old cottage has interior cracks and I just use ready mixed poylfilla in a tube. Then wipe when nearly dry with a damp rag to smooth it. Never filled outside cracks. But assume you'd use cement?
That was so funny , when it popped up by Teddy saying who's he talking too 😂 yes grey sounds good , no January is definitely not a good mood month march onward for me ❤❤🖤 just realised I didn't see the video before this one will have a look tomorrow as I'm off to bed now goodnight 😊
Yes we are in for a bit of a cold spell, although not as cold as yours where I live. A cheap roller blind to use a night might be a good idea for the window.
You are a very handy person and these days you can find so many how to videos on UA-cam. I fixed a crack in my foundation by watching a video by “this old house” it’s an American show. Best of luck Marc
Helpful hints: use drywall tape and drywall mud. Then sand until smooth. It may be called something different in your part of the world - gypsum? Don't know. The grey is a pretty colour - I have one similar called Coventry Grey by Benjamin Moore. Colour choices are usually determined by where your natural light is coming from. Is your window facing West or East, South or North? For example, choose a warm colour in North facing rooms and cool colours in your South and West facing rooms. Also, if your room does not get a lot of light, choose a paint colour with a high LRV - light reflecting value. The LRV is usually on the website or on the paint chip.
@@GoingSolo-sfs So colour for bedroom would be warm. Warm neutral? East facing room would only get good light in the morning, until around noon. Pick a colour with a high LRV. South facing needs a cool colour as it will get the most light all day long. Too bad that you don't have more windows facing south - a kitchen would be perfect there.
Marc I think January is a month that lots of people really struggle with. If you're feeling low then any criticism you receive its heightened, don't dwell on it. Teddy really has grown up so much, he's growing into a very handsome cat. The window just needs a blind up. Sorry can't help with any suggestions about the cracks in the plaster but I'm sure some followers will have suggestions. Chin up don't let the ******** get you down😊
My pausing skills are on fire but should have just waited a few seconds longer for when you paused it, lol! 😆 Just don't even engage with the trolls ... they're some deeply miserable buggers who want to drag you into their darkness! I've never wished for winter in my life, not even during an excruciating heatwave! I quite like your latest bedroom idea.
Yes Marc miserable January's nearly out .lighter nights are on the way. hope you have sorted your diet out .enjoying the home changes ( you have lost me)but you know what your doing 🤞 ha X BB UK X
Hi Marc definitely the right attitude to regarding your channel. I will never understand why people watch a video till the end of matter how long it is, only to then, be critical in a negative way, we all have different options, on everything, but if a channel gets your goat in anyway, there a little button you push it's very easy folks. But I know channels have the same people complaining about the content the ,camera angle you name it, but will still watch the videos, and give negative comments. I've never left a negative comment, if I think someone could do something different to improve there video I'll say, but in a positive there's just no need to be nasty. I think those people are basically getting there kicks talking like that as there not face to face, as you said in your last video, you would never walk up to someone and say " those shoes are dreadful your to old for that style" but will happily say on line . I hate January, we've all had enough of winter, thank god February is a day away. And regarding the infamous kitchen sink, according to popular belief most women carry them in there handbags, so the main living room is fine😂❤
Marc, I like your channel! I don't understand why folks are so hateful! Your house is lovely. It's yours do what suits you and Teddy! I have watch some other chateau channels and they use lime render for the outside so the walls can breathe. Cement does not allow the walls to breathe! I didn't realize that!!! I like the gray color. Teddy looks grand! B12 helps me. The doctors gave it to me when I was fighting cancer. It helps with mood! I turn lights on when it is dark and gray in the winter! Please take care. You and Teddy stay warm.
Just do and say what you normally do Marc and just ignore them ♥ Like the colour you are going to do with the bedroom. Teddy probably thinking whose that friend as My master talking to whilst you were filming😁
Hi there, I saw yesterday someone using those thermal imagers and if you can get a company to sponsor you, would be very interesting to see the walls floors etc.
Good for you nobody needs nasty minded people in their lives, their problem , one thing they probably do not have many friends!! Love you kitten!! Look forward to the lighter nights!!
Hi Marc, Glad you have taken steps to rid yourself of toxic people. Life is far too short. Regarding the cracks in the wall, they will keep occurring unless two main things happen first; 1. drainage needs to be sorted outside so the ground remains relatively the same moisture levels, and 2. heating and drying from the inside. This is best done with a dry heat (woodfire/pellet stove), as gas heating has high moisture levels. You may also find that adding some type of flexible adhesive to your lime render may help as well once those first two issues are taken care of.
Your field is looking nice, you sure work hard on it and it’s showing. I have missed a few videos due to a sciatic injury. ( hence me not knowing you already filmed the attic 😂😊) Can you afford a heating system like Billy on the Pethricks channel. I’m not sure what it is, but it goes on the wall. ( heat pump?)
I have no budget for any new heating set-up right now, but I can get any room to a comfortable temperature with what I have got. Hope you feel better soon. Good to have you back 🙂
@ ah yes, I forgot. Let me think for a bit. I did watch a video where a fellow made his own bricks for heating. He used wood chips, sawdust, some kind of animal poop and I’m not sure what else. Anyhow, he made this brick press and he says it works. You just have to let the bricks dry and everything is free. Interesting.
@@shelleypoole6415 I did get to see that video, They are somewhere in Europe if I remember... He is a talented guy to build his little machine. Their idea may work, It's not the most glamorous idea though :-) Having access to horse manure however is the heart of their idea. That's something I don't have 🙂
Yes it’s been a tumultuous few days in the comments section! I’m glad I survived the cull & am still here😂You may be right about the 476 days of January making us grumpy😂😂 On a positive note I am really enjoying the recent frequent output of content from you! Can’t help you with advice on your cracks as we have only ever used polyfiller on plasterboard which is completely different from your situation. I was wondering about the render on your exterior walls - is it cement which could be contributing to damp issues? I’ve also had an idea about the window between your bedroom & sitting room which you want to screen. You’ve got the woodworking skills to make a very slim shelf underneath the window on the bedroom side. You also have the artistic skills to create another Mondrian style canvas (which would look good in there as I seem to remember you have a Mondrian style quilt). You could then prop the painting on the shelf during the night to keep Teddy calmer & prop it on the floor during the day. Much easier (& hopefully more cost effective?) than blocking the window? What do you think?
Maybe use Internal Polyfiller for any bedroom cracks, a roller blind (light grey, to match your walls) on the internal window and (for extra insulation) wood panelling, just on the bedroom wall (against which your bed-head rests), also painted light grey, to match the rest(?) - It will be lovely and cosy, when done.. My Brother follows the Missenden Flyer, too! 🏍️⚡🏞️✨
Those rules popping up make me sick.. it does something to my eyes while trying to watch the road.. weird. We just had a rare snowstorm last week and today it is back in the 60s. I hate the cold
Negativity is fueling the world Marc. Some governements are even creating fake news to drive their people into sadness, angers and fears. Negativity can be rewarding for some people who are aspiring to run a part of the world to get personnaly richer. It's almost impossible to escape negativity if you want to face the reality. But you are not at the same scale, i get your point.
Hi Marc, I've enjoyed watching quite a number of your videos, which I have found very inspirational, as I have also bought a house in France and intend to make the leap from the UK sometime this year. Until then, I am splitting my time between the UK and France to stay within the Schengen rules. Regarding this video, is there a reason why you cannot use "conventional" filler for your internal walls? Also, I wondered if you have sorted out your condensation issue? I myself use a domestic dehumidifier, which not only reduces the moisture content of the air (and dry air feels warmer than moist!) but it also puts out some heat (adds a degree or two to the room) by virtue of the operation of the heat exchanger. Perhaps you have already considered and adopted, or dismissed this as a solution and apologies if I have missed this! Anyway, ignore the nay-sayers and keep going with progressing and living your life your way! Clive
Hi Clive, I do use a dehumidifier in the living room, but Ideally I would have a whole house ventilation set-up. They are a requirement in new build homes here 🙂
Don’t worry about the negative nellys, haters gonna hate buddy. January is a super depressing time for me aswel, I hate it sometimes, I try to exercise a lot more so I get good energy flow. Look for a paper that is used for cracks in the corners…you put it with the plaster and it holds it all together…less likely to crack then
Hello Mark i dont like this time of year either. I am looking forward to springtime. Have a good week. 😊
