At the end with the swan dive and breaking her neck is how we all quit the mansion tutorial.

I like the way the surroundings look in this game more than modern games. Sometimes ultra realistic is not the way to go.
Old TR games are always the best. I never go for new ones. New ones tell what to do while playing. Thats why i stick to old tr games on trle.net.

Once you lock up the butler and leave the area, it’s so creepy that you can still hear him making noises, lol. Reminds me of the tell-tale heart.
I did not hate the butler; I even loved him. He had never hurt me. I did not want his money. I think it was his tray. When he would walk in the distance, I could hear his tray shake and the dishes on it would rattle. And so, I finally decided I had to lock him in the freezer and close that door forever!

I actually have a weird phobia, I get really scared when people just appear somewhere in my house and I’m sure the creepy butler appearing from nowhere is the cause of it. Thanks Tomb Raider for creating a lifelong phobia where I’m creeped out daily in my own home! 😅

Damn this game makes me feel so old now lol the ps one tomb raiders were the best, that was my childhood playing these games. The tomb raider games today look pretty but they don’t have the same feel as the old classics, got a lot of good memories 😄

I remember my little brother was scared of the butler and the rattling noise he makes! back in 97 he was probably 10 or something. Anyways my dad would rattle a tea cup on a plate as he would walk down the hallway before we would go to bed. My brother would scream for him to stop while hiding under the blankets.. haha.. he thought it was the butler coming to get him.
Aaah the beauty of good and complete games, before the dark times...before they went mainstream.
My dad would hook this up on the box TV on the foot of my bed and would play this as I fell asleep. The damn dinosaurs in level one gave me so much anxiety as a kid. Love these memories.
I find it fantastic how years and years ago, without the internet most of us already locked the butler in the freezer and did the roof bug thing. I don't even remember how did I discover it. In Tomb Raider III, there's a cart circuit as well and the bug trick is taking the cart out of that "training area" lol
My cousin told us to do it because he'd turn into a skeleton...apparently 😂

@@0saintclark0 really? I didn't know that. I just remember that that butler was annoying me following me everywhere and I suddenly remembered that the freezer's door can close from outside lol. The only thing I remember reading about were those walkthroughs, but it was sooo long ago. I didn't speak English at that time, so I remember getting a completely non sense translation
@@lex3658 yep, in the days before glitches could be fixed so they became commonly talked about. They were also urban legends which was just passed through word of mouth. This was in a time before the internet and more than 4 channels on TV so a group of mates would happily get together to play single player games. It also gave way to some false urban legends like the famous Aerith one in FF7 which I won't say in case you haven't played it.

@@0saintclark0 those urban legends were crazy tho. I miss that time when glitches were appreciated lol. Actually, you've pointed something really crazy from those times, like, if they couldn't fix the glitches, they'd use it like some kind of Easter eggs or whatever hahahaha. They were fun anyway.

You can still hear the tray and dish sounds held by the butler after locking him in the freezer almost in everypart of the house near or above the fridge.
It was one of the most beautiful games of the 90's. I spent a long time looking for the key to the locked cabinet in the bedroom, but to no avail. There is no puzzle there, just training

As a kid i was asking my father why cant lara go through the gate, and he did explain it to me, but i always thought that there must be away. I feel like my childhood is fulfilled now. Thanks

I can remember after hours of trying to get that secret room before the door closed taking turns with my best friend. Finally getting down there and being like, this is it? Seriously??? For as long as it took which I think was possibly days because we'd play it for the allotted time we had after school. So actually just hours, but still to get there and it's just a dark room with trunks and views to areas you can't access. Somehow it still was entertainingly awesome for the time. Especially when compared to GTA 3 when it came out years later. The vast difference in what you can do free roaming.
Someone told me there were guns down there. My disappointment was immeasurable.
This makes me long for an exploration open world game with no ennemies or music, only ambiant sounds and HD ps1 graphics.

dam you answered something i always wanted to know as a kid. so great to see beyond those walls now as an adult and the secret room. i think i remember my brother looking up how to glitch out the map but we never figured it out. i wonder can you jump out into that black abyss on the side of the map? prob an invisible wall I'm sure but woulda loved to see you do that also. in all it put my mind at rest. and you ended it beautifully with lara doing a swan ton dive into the ground snapping her neck leaving her dead... beautiful :)
Yeah there's just an invisible wall there that doesn't let you go any farther.
He tried to, at 13:12 behind the tree, there is an invisible wall, tho, that blocks the way. If it wasn't for the invisible wall, she would either fall forever, or fall until teleported to the ground above, or hit an invisible ground down below.
I remember being too young to understand how to play this game properly so I spent hours in the manor and on the first level where you fight those wild cats.
I was too scared to go into the attic cause it was so dark

What a great intro house to play in. Reminds me of one of the old ps1 batman games that allowed a similar thing, just lookin for secrets and such inside your base. Did not know about the warp glitch tho, thats a neat quirk.
I was so happy when I picked up TR3 and Lara's Home was back with new stuff.
That Butler used to terrify me.
My first genuine actually-scared jumpscare was the first time I made my way 'round a corner and unexpectedly came face to face with that guy.
this actually inspired me for an idea: imagine if certain artifacts you steal can give you super powers: 1 artifact gives you super strength & speed; another allows you to control fire/water/air; another allows you to control people's minds; and another lets you manipulate forcefields (gravity, electricity, etc).
Now THAT would be a collection worth hunting the world for!
Fun fact: In Tomb Raider III, since you can get out of Lara's house, they have probably for that disabled climbing on the walls around it: you can hold on to it but not climb on it.
If this was built in Minecraft it would look identical. Lol. Nice glitch i never knew that was possible. Nice they let you explore the roof unlike the highway ruins in New Vegas i'm replaying atm. Odd though they textured the whole roof but neglected to texture part of the surround I found on the first level.
After leaving the first tower on the great wall, its possible to jump on the level boundary wall, from the water pool the boundary opposite the great wall or its the top right corner of the area from entering. Work your way back along it to the first tower, jump to the other boundary wall & run towards the 2nd tower. In the top left corner of the area from entering is the missing texture. Found it on the PSM demo disc & it remained in the full game.

Oh the days when i used to run into the butler in a random corner in the maze, he always carries that tea and laughs.
Perfect ending to the video after discovering you’re stuck in the middle of a void with a relentless butler who can clip through tables and, potentially, one day, through freezer walls.
TR is the game where we all discovered how sadistic we are :
- locking poor butler in the freezer
- making Lara die at the end of the demo
I'm glad I'm not the only one who is severely unnerved by the butler. I'm always terrified he'll be right in front of me when I go around a corner.
I loved in TR3 when you get to shoot him.
It was nice of the developers to actually do something with the roof, just on the off-chance this glitch was exploited.

Well there is...check out 'compton wynyates' (exactly the same manor house as seen in the loading cutscene) and also 'hatfield old palace' which looks like 'in game' version pretty much with hedges and fountain in front
