    After high school, I worked for company that sold aftermarket parts for Mustangs and other Fords. They had a big car show every summer for customers to show off their cars. One year, one of the more affluent customers brought his original GT40, and not on a trailer either. He drove it to and from the show. It actually took me a few seconds to recognize it at first because it's so much smaller than I had imagined. Everyone knows the "40" comes from it being only 40 inches tall, but most people don't realize how low that really is for a roofline. I've never been a big fan of Ford, but they nailed the perfect ratio of art and engineering with that one. And the sound of that 427 big block was so angry and glorious.

    The sidewall stiffness of cross-ply/bias-ply tyres is horrendous, which is why the car moves around so much. It happens with every car from that period or street cars that used tyres with the same construction method. You'll be going in a straight line and the car will move around like a sailboat on a windy day. The advantage is that they don't snap out of grip like radials do, they gradually get looser and looser near the limit which is why some motorcycle racers still use them.

Enjoyed the AC Legends-, the AC GTR Legends-, the GTC Legends- and the TC Legend mod packs - all heavy packs, added with loads of single mods of this era. Already high, high class. But this one came out-of-nowhere to me when I was suggested Jake's 1st view - and now Jimmer too. In the meantime, I've raced all the cars at classic track mods as 60s Stardust, 1966 Sebring, 60s Laguna Seca, 70s Daytona RC, 70s Road Atlanta, 60s Watkins, classic Willow Spring and Riverside. Just 3 laps, pit-out, a single flying and pit-in. And then a single lap at Abulzz' latest Targa Florio work. This WSC pack is sooo well put together. It totally knocks off my previous podium top rF1 WSC1970 mod pack. So immense!

    I like this car in all the sims where I've tried it, which is weird because it encourages a driving style I normally isn't very good at, where you use oversteer deliberately to take sharp corners. It's something about the weight balance and throttle response of it that makes it perfect for controlled oversteer; if you just set it up with toe, camber etc for a slight understeer it feels fairly stable but when you need it to turn sharper you can very easily induce oversteer with a little push of the throttle. It's also one of the cars that can tolerate a little bump when the stupid AI players inevitably rams you without spinning out too often.

    You probably know this already but you can go to custom shader patch's settings and find windscreen FX. That has setting "remove dirt completely" which helps with the blinding windscreen effects which are bit overdone with some cars.

    "American". Ok, it has a Ford motor, but it was developed by Lola and branded by Ford. It is the nicest of the GT40s because later versions just have a massive motor and were heavy. As for the awesome WSC pack from Bazza, I still think the '67 Chapparal 2F is best, when the wing DRS is mapped to a button on the wheel.

    I meet the photographer that took photos of the GT40 at LeMans. Purchased a few prints of the car in the press area before the race they ended up winning. The guy had some cool stories about following the team around and just being a fly on the wall.

    You said the scariest part is that part downhill that goes a bit right and left but full throttle. Obviously this is all relative, each driver may have a different vision about it. But I'm curious. Because for me the scariest part may be right after the UA-cam corner, where you do a little jump (depending on the car speed and suspension setup) and then a couple of high speed short right-left-right corners that are a little blind (specially the first one). Cause you just gotta trust yourself nailing the line among those turns. Otherwise is so easy to be in the fence in the blink of an eye.

      There is the Ford GT40 MkI, the MkII and the MkIV in this pack...
      With respectively 385 / 485 and 530 hp, 905 kg / 1087kg and 1000kg and their OWN modeled bodies.
      Exactly the ones that won Le Mans in 1966/67/68 and 69.
      Note that it is the 5.9l MkI, which won in 1969 (with Ickx/Olivier) by a few seconds in front of the Porsche 908 (Larousse/Hermann) because of the change in regulations to limit the power of these monsters, so that it was the 7l MkIV which won in 1967 !

    • @MrGreenAKAguci00

    • @cladecq
      @cladecq 11 місяців тому

      @@MrGreenAKAguci00 Do not forget the 123 Ferrari finish, the next year, in 1967, at Daytona ;op
      This is also why the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 is called the "Ferrari Daytona", to commemorate this event.
      Let's also not forget that it was Ferrari who won the 1967 WSC with the 330 P3/4, even if Ferrari lost Le Mans 1967.
      Ford, with the GT40s, still finished only 3rd in the prototype championship over 2000cc, behind Ferrari and Porsche in second.
