    Try making the backround music a little softer for us to really concentrate on what you're saying :)

    Omg you could take in your notes! We’re not allowed :( I struggle with the written side, performing is easy for me, but writing is a huge no 😂

    I did a theatre review on Romeo and Juliet AND Accidental Death of an Anarchist in a mock exam not too long ago. It was super lucky that I took a lot of short condensed notes on each one. Even luckier that I could bring them in, but only with a 400-word count. Anyway, I was 2 marks away from a C -, so I was a bit gutted but I'm still happy with myself as I didn't even do GCSE drama. (big shocker.) Thank you for the help!

      What are the mocks like in A level drama and theatre? Is it all memorising or does it lean higher towards creativity?

      @@cuddlefish8943 Gosh its been a good while since my exams, but I'd say its a good balance of both. Be sure to reference quotes and points of context, production wise and/or narratively. (tho I'm not sure in what style, mine was Harvard,) and say what it made you feel from a critical point of view, as an audience member or reader. It really helped to get my creative juices flowing

      @@BDMZ404 alrighty thanks! I’m just curious because I’m considering choosing drama for my A level. Slight problem… I did not do drama for GCSE..
      If you don’t mind me asking, how did you do in your drama finals and how did it impact your opportunities in the future?

    My A level group consists of me and two guys. So I always get the best roles of the leading lady - meaning usually get to be part of some kind of love triangle, have to say and act all flirty or just stand there looking shocked while the guys have a cool fight scene. Still love it though - even if the written exam might kill me.

    Why do people bother with this A-level when most careers, and unis, don't value drama?
    It is often considered to be a "soft subject" by most universities.
    Even becoming a trained, paid actor is a tedious process with just 10% of all trained actors surviving in the industry beyond 3 years. (A former drama school teacher told me this).

    • @Slidetotheleft
      @Slidetotheleft  Рік тому +9

      Who said the subject is just for those pursuing acting? The view that Drama is a 'soft subject' really REALLY grinds my gears as I strongly believe it should be considered on par with subjects such as History and English. The essay element of the subject is vast and looks at similar themes of wording that English does, only with the added aspect of how this is performed.
      In terms of jobs - would you not agree that public speaking and communication is one of, if not the most, important skill for any career? What other subject focuses on this so explicitly?
      On top of that, what do you mean by 'not valued' by most universities? Sure, if I was trying to pursue engineering that wouldn't seem the most relevant subject but I think Durham University found it just fine when I applied for my teacher training course - a career that involves many elements of performing and analyzing emotions of children! If a company or uni did not 'value' Drama as a subject, I would not want to be part of their team anyway.
      Thanks for your input!
