- Mark Cryer testing his mild 462ci big block chevy powered '09 Smart Car with full custom 8.50 certified chrome moly frame and Ford 9" rearend. First run in video is an 11.74 @113.76 and then Mark and his son Nick changed front springs and made adjustments to shocks to try to get it to wheelie higher as you see in the second run. Not mine but a guy who pits next to us. Can't remember the horsepower but I know he has tried different trans/gear setups along with suspension. It's a handful with the short wheelbase so that is the sticking point trying to get it to launch straight. He hasn't had it out this year at all but hopefully I will get a chance to ask him the specs

Couldn't agree more. I may be a ford person. But, have to admit this is pretty awesome. Still, how the hell they get that big of a motor in a tiny smart car?? Talk about extensive frame/body work.
He's sitting in the very back of it, that's how it fits. I'd guess if this were crashed on the street, the engine would likely decapitate you at about the waist.
Its still be sorted out guys. The frame is all custom built. The big block is mild not race. New trans was recently installed and it pulls the wheels twice as high. Just wait when its all dialed in!

victoryredcolorado i mean its pretty impractical... a t/a with a bbc or a bbc fox would run 9s all day which is a fair comparison when you look at the weight of the cars.. as for what im racing a cam head full bolt on '99 t/a running 11.39 @ 121 on nitto street drag radials. stock t56 stock 10 bolt.
Trix Thats the whole point but the chassis is still not setup correctly and the wheeelbase makes it quite the handful and once figured out times will drop...it is certified for 8.50 so yeah lol
what's certified for 8.50? the cage? that's just a safety rating. but it is a pretty insane build and its not my money so idgaf lol. good luck on going sub 10! or whatever the goal is i hope you get it

Very cool!!! I've always wanted to see one with the blower sticking out the front end. It would resemble the little model car I had as a kid with the crazy looking monster out the roof with the gear shifter. Very nicely done. I wish I had the shop, money and talent to do it.

In the early 1970's the Mustangs, Camaros, Vettes and Mopar Muscle Cars were running in the high 13's. An original GTO with 389 and "3-deuces" barely broke high 13's with fat rear tires. Stock tires they were mid-14's. If you think something in the Elevens isn't fast try doing it. Troll...

Yea sorry, but a 9.96 is still pretty slow from something the size of a matchbox with a BBC shoe horned into it, mild or not... this thing should be running 7s! mild or not. very cool build though! if the owner built this thing to be souly different and entertaining then believe u me he has acheived that.. but if it was numbers hes chasing.. he clearly has problems

I'm surprised he didn't extend the wheelbase for better handling and put the front axle a foot or two beyond the front bumper. That was pretty common with Crosley's, Fiats, etc back in the days of Altered class drag cars

I will be honest though I kinda liked it better when you still had the original chassis just because it was a little more of the car involved and imagine just boosting people on the street out of some money but I know you wouldn't want to use that with what's in it now, I wouldn't.

A (I'm going to guess, stock curb is ~1600lbs) 2300lb smart car with a big block+ drivetrain only needs about 330HP to run a 11.72. With even a basically stock 450HP big block it should be around mid 10's. With a decent 550HP big block this thing would be in the high 9's.
They could do even a better quarter mile run if they load the Smart into a catapult... and cut the rooooooooppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee !

I really can't appreciate it. Its a custom made go kart. It was purpose built and probably doesn't have a single smart car part in use. It doesn't even use stock wheel location.
