Something weird is going on with that, it’s like the details are good but the basic shape is off especially the left side of the jaw.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying I could do a better tattoo, I would definitely screw it up, but it just looks a bit misshapen from the get go.
I work in fine art making sculptures and see professional artists do this an all the time, especially when they make an armature. They will fudge the proportions, then they spend a month covering it in clay and putting in detail when what they really needed to do was spend an extra 20 minutes measuring everything at the beginning.

Absolutely! But this is a timelapse from the full course Tattoo Method Pro, it's only the second ever full human portrait my students complete so the goal is to keep it simplistic for them. As they progress further into this module the designs will become more complicated and more challenging for them.
