7 Day Challenge: Convert and Speedpaint a UNIQUE Warhammer Army

- Опубліковано 22 лип 2024
- In today's exploration of the concept of unnecessary deadlines, I'm converting and speed painting a Warhammer 40,000 Chaos army, hoping to create something fairly unique in as little time as possible.
I'm not a fan of Speedpaint videos - they're not really all that useful, but putting together and painting a force over a week off seems a bit more achievable and healthy than staying up for 36 hours straight, or whatever the current trend suggests!

Just wanted to say - I really appreciate that you put captions on your vids. Lord knows there's people out there who absolutely *could*, but *don't*, for whatever reason.
Thanks! Though, I mostly script the voiceover, so a lot of the hard work is already done ;)
@@OffbeatBuildsI mean yeah, but there's folks who do work off scripts who still don't do captions
@@Mistheart101the official Warhammer channels among them
@@OffbeatBuildsdo u have a sim racing channel?
@@OffbeatBuildsIt's still appreciated!
In terms of a name for the Warband, how about "The Zinc-marked Host"? Zinc is a metal best known for being incredibly slow to corrode (it corrodes ~100x slower than iron), so the fact that they are corroding is both a reference to their founding Legion the Iron Warriors, and ironic twist, and communicates how long they have been in the warp.
Yeah, I really like that. Though I fear I'd need to explain it every time someone asks 😂
@@OffbeatBuilds That's the best part! you can just make up the lore as you go along!
It's not that it's slow to corrode that does help though, it also used for sacrificial parts it systems where things will corrode. We used zinc anodes in the heat exchangers for the AC's on our ship in the Navy, the salt water would corrode the zinc anodes first before eating at the rest of the system. You could totally say this was a force the Iron Warriors were willing to sacrifice first before sending the rest of the legion in, also verdigris in a bluish/green color that's on everything brass at sea, matching this rusty corrosion feel.
"The most incompetent of Bit retailers..." That resonated with me on a spiritual level haha
Haha, yeah I've been hurt before!
How about simply calling them, 'The Corroded', it's catchy, it explains the aesthetic perfectly and it retains an air of mystery.
And gives good nurgly vibes too
Maybe you could go with either "The Rust Born" or "The Corroded Brotherhood"
The Rust Born really rolls off the tongue, strong contender!
@@OffbeatBuilds Nice, glad you like it
The name of the legion i came op with is Copprus Oxydites
quite unique and intersting way to kitbash an army ngl
Thanks! And good shout on the name!
The Oxidian Hand.
Oxidian represents the absolute highest rank of joke that is certified by the guild of chaos jesters, known as "the puun". The puun is usually manifested when a word is made by combining two other words - in our case oxidized and obsidian. Looking at them now, it is pretty obvious why oxidized was chosen as a first half of this puun, but why obsidian? Glad you've asked.
You see, this before pledging his services to the chaos, this chapter's leader Broot Cobbler, was a famous ork hunter and disk jockey who once tore a daemonic obsidian hand from a corrupted ork warboss. He knew that it would be a heresy to keep such an artifact, but he also knew that it would be a heresy to rob the world of a chance to hear his mighty tectonic beats enhanced by a tiny bit of harmless warp magic. Oh, the night of Broot's first concert after obtaining the hand was a night to remember. Most of his chapter went to see it, and some say most of that chapter is still with him, dancing to the cacophony of destruction. All because of that damned hand.
How about the “The Dilapidations of Iron” Or “Tarnished Legion”?
Edit Or diapletions of dilapidation?
Dilapidations of Iron is about the most Metaaaal name I've ever heard!
as for my Daemon Prince.
i converted a plastic contemptor dreadnought with the Obliterator theme, making an Obliterator Daemon prince :)
but love the cataphractii chaos terminators, might make some myself :D
i ran into this issue with my (somewhat similarly made) iron warriors, i love horus heresy models and used them, but the cataphractii compared to the new sculpt termies are like babies :(
This is the kind of video I wish I saw when I first started chaos marines 4 years ago, in other words, these are some sweet conversions!
Good production value, interesting conversion projects AND proper subtitles, now this is some pro content. I feel like I found a hidden gem just now as I stumbled on your channel.
This was such a good watch! Just getting into the hobby again after a long (20yr) break & love the concept of an army that can be noob friendly but also be used to show how far your painting/kitbash/modelling skills have evolved. Filled me with inspiration & ideas for a chaos army if I make one.
Love these guys, they look great and you've given me many ideas for my own upcoming Chaos force, many thanks comrade!
Absolutely love the way you have built the scopes on the bolters - ive been making a heresy army and was thinking about how to make recon marines, this is perfect
Gracias! It was the best part of the build to be honest. There's a few more images on insta if you're looking for inspiration.
Your videos are always a little highlight to me, really like your style!
Thank you for the kind words amigo, have a great weekend!
This was a brilliant project. A nice variety of classic conversions to make something truly unique. Very cool.
That paint scheme is so simple yet so incredible looking!
Must admit I've never seen your videos before, but UA-cam recommended this one to me. I love it! The editing style, the narration and instruction, AND those models LOOK INCREDIBLE. Instant sub from this modest UK Warhammemmererer 🥳
I love seeing this because even though I'm just getting back into warhammer, and I've painted my own color scheme in the past, I feel somewhat pressured or encouraged at least to follow the step-by-step tutorial in the handbook. I mean...I have but more so I can get back into paitning, and nearly 8 hours later I have 5 models.... never said I was quick or efficient
Love the cconcept, the realisation and the editing.
Excellent stuff. You are obviously a good modeller and converter, plus your voice is quite nice to listen to.
Awesome Kit Bash , love the effort u put in it
Something around Verdigris given their blue colouring
Damn you're good! Very impressed with your videos so far!
Super sweet quick little video, that must have taken a good amount of effort to put together sir. I quite loved it and will pass it on!
I like the idea of helping you with a name. The instant thoughts that came to mind was the word play with inheritance, and that has some nice synonyms to it.
Sons of Heritage, Heirloom Sons, something in this perhaps with your own twist. Have fun!
Great video, the format and pacing is super nice
I love the individuality of all the marines
I was unaware of Dirty Down Rust, but now I need to get some of that. Many thanks.
Using conversion parts from a nemesis dreadknight on an armiger is SO smart! I might have to pull out my spare sprues to do this myself.
The tarnished legion sounds cool and it fits the colors
I’ve only just started the video but I’m liking what I’m seeing.
Thanks, much appreciated!
This was a great video. I hope to see more like it
Wow. Very cool creativity. It makes me want to get into these miniatures.
These look so dope, love me some turquoise, kitbashing, AND Iron Warriors. The editing and presentation are top notch and the script is pretty entertaining. I look forward to what you make in the future bud!
Thanks Michael, much appreciated!
That was a fantastic video, glad I stumbled across your channel. Always been an Iron Warriors fan so this was fun to watch.
love your kitbashed, truly inspiring
Your warband looks fantastic. Great work! As someone on the spectrum, I have to give myself BS deadlines to get stuff done or it languishes.
Love the space wolves colours and the nurgly vibes
i really love your content and your videos, definitely a fan!
Ok so this is the first video ive ever seen of yours and i immediately subbed. Im currently workin on an iron warriors army myself. But this is definitely next!
love the colourscheme, really great stuff there! And I appreciate the lack of faux-tension in your deadline. For a name, how about "The Untarnished" ? Maybe that was the nickname for this legion before the fall to chaos, so now its a bit of an ironic moniker.
Finding out that the Chris Hayes I used to Sim Race with is now a Warhammer UA-camr - be still my beating heart! Good to see and hear your commentary again mate!
Really like the army just found your channel super cool! i recently started using Ak Grime and by god that has fixed my isseus with so many things lol
Love the customization tips. Great video.
Very cool, my man. Great job 👍🏻
I used that Fafnir Rann mini as a base for conversion into a Master of Executions.
Amazing work! Honestly “The Rusted Legion” sounds pretty dope.
I literally wondered if I'd missed a video from you but then I saw the post on Instagram showing the Armiger
Aye, things have been a bit slow over the last couple of months thanks to a house move. Back in the swing of things again now!
Glad to see you back.@@OffbeatBuilds
Randomly stumbled on this. Some good hobby happening here. Isn't this what it's all about? (The enjoyment not stress of deadlines ha)
Pretty annoying that this is better than any of the things I've painted when I wasn't even doing "speed paint armies" hahaha
Heh, thanks man. ;)
That chaos scheme is 🔥🔥🔥🔥 in love
Kinda looks like the Alpha Legion. Great work!!
Your videos are really cool! Keep up the good work. They should be called ,,The Rivet Legion"
The blue color immediately made me think of a certain copper oxide compounds that becomes blue when hydrated, thus I was thinking you could name them the Cupric Marines!
Nice thought!
Incredible work man love it
The Chintacle Chaps.
Absolutely cursed comment! 😂
Super sick army!
fantastic job!
Nicely done 👍
How about an ironic (no pun intended) name, like "The Purified", or something like that. Referring to how their souls have been "purified" by Chaos' touch, even though their physical form is corroded and decayed.
CHRIS my goodness it's good to see you.
Beautiful work!
Thank you very much!
Awsome job dude. I toyed with doing something similar with deathgaurd but call them the depthguard 😂 never happened but i did paint up typhus in a turquoise and rust scheme
Love the Deamon Armiger, though with the hammer hand and overall look I can't help seeing Protectorate of Menoth from Warmachine.
Name Suggestion could be the Viridian Cohort.
"Viridian" referencing a shade of blue-green that's *close* to the one these guys are painted in, also vaguely like the "verdigris" patina on copper.
"Cohort" referencing them as a sub-division of a Legion, implying that this particular warband still sees itself as part of the greater Iron Warriors Legion. Hell, with all the AoD parts you used, maybe these guys actually are veterans of the Long War, their original "cohort" being whittled down over 10,000 years until only a single "century" remains- the lads in the thumbnail.
Brilliant videos man! Excellent conversions. No idea about a cool name that isn't a GW knowck ooff :P
I've got no names in mind for your army, but an army I'm slowly kitbashing is Bane of Tartarus. They're a homebrew of mine that's been shattered by the heresy and now has to 1. Rebuild their home world and 2. Fight against the forces of chaos and the other half of the legion.
Very inspireing! Thanx a lot!
Given the theme of corrosion over time, how about something like "The Entropy Warriors" or "The Legion of Entropy"? Entropy has a double meaning here; firstly in the more obvious sense that their machines and weapons are gradually breaking down from extended warp exposure, but also that the concept of entropy is central to the second law of thermodynamics, which, in short, states that ordered systems over time will trend towards chaos, which is perfect for a chaos warband!
You casually just made a gatling gun and didn't show us?? Great video and models, always looking forward to more!
Offbeat Builds: "Wait, am I a proper youtuber?" *Incredulous shrug*
Me: Subscribed.
Haha, gracias!
Great video! Wish your voice audio was a little bit louder, but love your channel so far.
Nice scheme and video!
Oxide Raiders.
"Even Iron Shall Fail"
Iron Warriors who rejected Chaos Undivided and now venerate Papa Nergle.
The Cadre of the Corroded Soul is my vote 🤙
The withered irons kinda sound fitting since these iron warriors are slowing decaying like rust.
Depending on how they approach the rust theme, it could be quite a few names. "The Everusting" if they don't like it, can't do anything against it, but use it against others, because what else is left? "Entropied Brethren" if they embraced the concept and spread it like papa Nurgle spreads his gifts. If you want to be a little ironic, and all silly go with "Antioxidizers".
Finally, if you want it to be a bit pretentional, yet anegdote worthy, name them Group CLF3. ClF3 is the chemical formula of Chlorine Trifluoride, made in 1930 by some "peculiar" german scientists. It is an oxidizer beyond compare, it self-ignites when you look at it wrong, it explodes water on contact, creates caustic and corrosive gasses and/or acids when burning and is able to ingite: glass, wet sand, asbestos and everthing you love and cherish. Burning at 2 400 degrees Celsius, it can almost boil steel and go through concrete and gravel like they were out of butter. Fun stuff.
Well done! How do you ensure that your studs are all the same thickness?
Looks really amazing. Sometimes it is good to set a deadline for yourself and try to do it. Gods know I have too many damn projects because my mind always gets an idea!! Masters of iron. Simple name. Maybe The host of Iron? Wardens of Iron! Iron Wardens! A small play on IRON WARRIORS, That would be IRONic 🙂
Ferrous Abominous. great work.
Great video, I've always floated the idea of making alternative Nurgle Iron Warriors inspired by the lore mixing Death Guard and CSM bits. As for your warband name... The Ferrous Fists?
Yeah, I've had the same thought. If you "detentacle" plague marines they make really good Iron Warrior models IMO.
I don't know about the legion, but I could really see the Demon prince being called something like the Rust walker sure it's a bit on the nose but I think it sounds cool and walker is a nice nod at it being mainly a machine
The blue looks like copper verdigris. Maybe something like the Cuprum Host? Or the Verdigris Drinkers? The Verdigris Reavers? Oxidized Remains?
Yeah I like Oxidized Remains
Those look great mate!
Did you find any interaction between the Dirty Down and the Enamels? I know Dirty Down is activated by water but I've had issues with it reactivating through varnish which has always made me reticent to use it on anything I'd plan to game with.
Very nice video! Question regarding kroxigor scale. Did you thin it down? I paint my chaos army the same way now and my kroxigor after airbrush looks way darker. Or is it maybe just the light from the video?
Gangatic hosts, gangue is the impure material around metal ores
that's really nice, that's the best one i've read so far, it's got good flow you know, good shout
sounds like the clanging and shuffling of silent trudgers en masse, really evocative. nailed it
yep I've read them all. best by a distance. i'm not going to try. hail!
There is a term in material science known as " galvanic corrosion" which is a concept where one metal corrodes in order to protect another. If youve ever seen weird blocks at the bottom of dock pillars, they might be blocks of metal made to corrode in place of key alloy components in the structure.
all this to say, you might name your warband known as "The galvanic enclave/host/other noun, for just as one metal corrodes to protect another metal, as on their armors, so to do these marines fight and die for something other than their individual lives.
another way to go might be: the (high sounding noun like lords) of galvanic entropy.
Here we've got Iron Warriors successors *Alpha Legion appears*
thank you for not doing the against the clock thing on the video
All the rivets are belong to us.
Amazing,
I, too, got the age of darkness box and still haven't done anything with it
at 5:55 you put up instructions for what sprue goo is but does the ratio of sprue to solvent matter? how much sprue in my goo?
The rusted chain could be fun
I have no interest in the Horse Heresy at all, but these models are extremely good for conversions of Chaos Space Marines.
Call them the Verdigris legion. They are both rusty AND copper oxidized.
How bout "Verdigris Corsairs"
The Temuan legion, because they look like alpha legion ordered from temu with all of that rust.
They look awesome, but yeah it does kinda look like particularly grimy alpha legion
that bright bright blue armor is giving me some Alpha Legion vibes! Maybe a nod to them in the name somehow? Use some other greek letter?
Verdigras Regulators would be a cool name in my opinion. It has the high gothic pseudo Latin sound and it’s basically the same thing as rust but for other metals. Also thats what your paint pattern resembles more than rust, I admit I clicked this video hoping it was an alpha legion army. As for the regulators part of the name, Idk thought it sounded cool, you can interchange it with any other title suffix.
What a riveting video!
