Looking back, Shane really wasn't that bad. It seems like he transformed more quickly. If he didn't die, I have a feeling both Rick and Shane would be the leaders of the group. Rick seems to be slowly turning into a Shane-like character.

The group is not better off without Shane
The one thing I didn't like about him was how he was thinking about killing Rick even way back when Dale saw him aiming his shotgun at Rick. But they had a bond, that was undeniable. I never thought of Shane as a bad guy, he was just a realist who thought of what was best for the group. I feel like Rick and Shane would've been good leaders... but he went a little too crazy there at the end. Truly one of the best characters on the show, It's a shame they killed him off.
If Rick hadn't been shot, Shane never would've fell in love with Lori. Him and Rick would've been great leaders together.

Such a good character
Shane is generally a good character. He saved Rick in the beggining at that Hospital. He only got on with Lori because he was sure that Rick was dead in the hospital and it made perfect sense. Nobody would have expected Rick to survive alone in that hospital with injury. Shane have built his relation with Lori too quick that he couldn't face the reality when Rick came back. What he have become was not what actually was, he simply made foolish mistakes and was quite unlucky.
Now don't get me wrong, i loved Shane's character. Well, in the show anyway. He was a bit of a dick in the comics. Shane's problem was he adapted too quickly to the new world, too quickly for the group. It wasn't until Rick killed Dave and Tony that he started to get the idea but by that point Shane was Too Far Gone. Then in turn by Rick killing Shane he began to understand he had to change and that Shane was right. In a way, by Shane dying, he propelled Rick into the great leader he is now.
well said. I think It also had something to do with Rick being able to take care of perhaps shane's child. He knew he would be able to have Judith as his own (the group will kill him in his sleep. He's not dumb.) he wanted to make sure Rick would be willing to do ANYTHING to keep the baby, Carl, Lori, the group and even Rick himself alive. Even if that meant he had to die in order for that to happen. He's so misunderstood by everyone.

Lauren LeFevre Yes, I truly believe that Shane knew he wouldn't be the father (even if he really was), and he wouldn't be able to live with that. So he made sure rick was strong enough do anything it takes to keep them safe, even if it means killing your best friend. Shane did alot for the group. He kept them all safe until rick showed up, gave carol peace of mind by letting ed know he's not going to be laying his hands on her anymore, letting the group know the cdc wasn't the right place to go, saving carl (he told Otis to leave him at the school and take the medicine back, but Otis refused, so he did what he had to do to keep Carl alive), killing the walkers in the barn, finding sophia, and killing randall (that was pretty much a going away present, quality assurance), and helping rick become the leader he is today. Shane was a good smart guy, yeah he might've been extremely upset about the love triangle and not getting lori, or the baby, but I don't think he went crazy or even off his rocker. He was depressed. He knew exactly what he was doing when he lured rick into the field... he wanted rick to kill him, to make rick stronger.

It makes sense!! I've been watching video after video on Shane (having seen Shane's death last night on the episode due to finally watching the first couple seasons) and he's not dumb at all. He loved Lori, Carl and Rick so much. Really, really wish they would have kept Shane

I forgot about this video. I use to watch it all the time back around the earlier seasons of TWD. Today I heard this song on the radio for the first time in forever and I instantly remembered this video. God I miss Shane. I miss early seasons of TWD (I still love and watch the show) but damn.

Shane was my favourite character. He 100% made the most difficult and correct calls 99.9% of the time. He was brave, courageous and deeply complex. In the end, he had to die. He slowly lost the plot. Mainly because of what Lori did, but I also think because he was the only one to make the hard decisions and in the grand scheme of things, the correct ones yet nobody backed him up in them.. Dale backed him a little but he was far to diplomatic to follow up with it completely like Shane was. After Shane died, Daryl who was my 2nd favourite became my first. I haven’t watched the last series, maybe even 2 series so I need a major catch up. But I absolutely loved Shane. ❤️

Shane was like how Rick is now. Realistic. Willing to make the hard choices to save the group, but they didn't see that back then. They saw him as a psychopath. But in the end he was the realistic one.

After they killed Shane, the show went down hill.
The show never went down. But it was fucking retarded to kill off Merle. Was since episode 1 and was just shot like its nothing. Same thing with the governor. Twd developers needs to emphasize important characters death instead of just fucking killing them off like that

Watching the death of my first favorite character in this show 8 years later. It’s way more heartbreaking now. Knowing how far ahead the apocalyptic world’s time Shane was 😞 Grabbed on to Negan after he appeared. Still, this show shouldn’t have lost Shane 😭

In my opinion the apacolypse brought out the true shane. Like Dale said: "This Is where you belong shane, In this world where It Is now, this Is where you belong." Rick would had done anything to save carl, just look what hes done the last season. And btw, Shane didnt act like that just becuse of Lori. He was really unstable if you didnt notice. No. God, Shane would have left the prison immediately when he realized how much Firepower the governor had... Also the group oils be gone if he killed Rick. Daryl would of left. Hershel's family didn't like him and would leave him, Glenn was with Daryl so he knows Randall was killed by Shane so he would have left with with Daryl. The group would just be Shane Lori Carl carol and maybe Tdog. Once Lori gives birth she dies and Shane would leave with the baby. I can picture Shane being with joes group

I miss Shane. I wish he would have never killed Otis. His murder of Otis was what caused him to become what he would become later on in the show. The thought of him killing Otis drove him nuts and it changed him. OH, and Lori of course. She shouldn't have been such a dick to him. Even if he wasn't telling the truth about Rick being dead, I don't blame him for saying Rick was dead considering the conditions.

He aimed his gun at Rick yes but he didn't try to shoot him, aiming and shooting are two totally different things. Also rape is when someone has forced sex with someone else, what Shane did was come come on too strong to Lori because he was drunk and then he came to his senses. If he actually tried raping Lori there is nothing she could have done to stop him and it would have happened but it didn't because Shane would never rape someone he wasn't that kind of man.
***** Dakota Krages I wouldn't say Shane is a bad person. I would say he is a good guy, but the zombie invasion made him do things that conflicted with his personality. Also at some point I think he became obsessed with Rick and his family, and proved this by aiming his gun at rick and forcing himself at Lori. I think these are things he didn't mean to do, but they happened because of Shane going slightly mentally unstable due to the zombie apocalypse. I know he wouldn't have actually raped Lori, I think he was more scared of himself in that scene then Lori was scared of him. What I'm trying to say is that Shane was one of the most interesting characters of the show, because of his slight mental instability, his morally questionable actions and his role as the hothead in the group.

Easily the best character on the show. Stupid to kill him off. The governor and Merle were good as well. Rick is ok but the rest of the characters I don't care for now. The first half of season 5 wasn't good in my opinion.
Be thankful you got 2 full seasons of him. Now granted that he was a complete dick in the comics and an absolute badass on the show, in the comics he dies in issue 6.

Show's been on a steady decline since Shane left. Actually the episode after this one features one of the worst moments of the entire series: Hershel's infinite ammo hack. RIP Shane and everything about The Walking Dead.

I watched wolf of wall street 5 times and realized the last time watching it that Brad is played by Shane (Jon Bernthal ). Now that's a great actor. He has worked with Robert Deniro , Brad Pitt , Leonardo Dicaprio and Martin Scorsese. He will be an A-list actor one day. Surprised that he isn't already.
I just startet watching TWD. I finished Season 2 yesterday. I'm really sad that Shane is dead. I understood mostly why he did what he did and I felt sorry for him. Maybe he would have been a better father to Carl than Rick. And Dale is dead now.,too I'm quite sad today and I haveto wailt for the DVD with Season 3. Well yes...I'm pretty much infectet ;)

Shane was by far the most valuable group member. He was a good fighter, a rational thinker, and wasn't afraid to make the hard decisions that were necessary to keep people alive. Even after he died he left his mark on Rick and the others that changed them for the better. An invaluable character in my mind.
