  • This is stilts test video of my feline quadsuit~
For other process images, I will tidy them up and upload to my deviant art page:)
    ------------------
My stilts design is based on Arichelic's design, (tutorial link below)
but i made some changes to make the design fit my quadsuit
For example, I put the elastic in the front rather than the back because I think that is more effective to show "elasticity" in the "joint" areas. Since the elastic linked all the PVC parts, with small movements, the elastic can help pull other pvc parts to bring a smooth leg move.

      hello, Cxpcxkes,
This quadsuit is one of my earliest creations so I will do them in quite a different way if i need to make the stilts again now (probably with fiberglass and metal), but i think they are still a good starting version if you are making your first quadsuit.
If you want to make stilts like this, you can have a look at my video description, this version was made based on Arichelic's design (which i also linked in the description, you can see the materials in their video clearer). If i remember correctly, the materials were: PVC pipe (3 sizes: big pipe for the outer tube, a slightly smaller size for the middle section,1" pipe for the handles inside the tube, some strong screws and nuts , 1" elastics, wood board, foam for padding the areas that touches your arm, EVA foam for protecting the pipe edges. I think thats it.
This version is a simple, easy-to-make version of stilts, so it has its cons.
One of it is its strength, I will suggest to reinforce the screw holes more than my version in this video, and have a special screw that is long enough to poke all the way through the pvc pipe(and nuts to fix them, even glue them in the right places) rather than 4 sets of screw and nuts for each leg like this version, because you will be putting all your weight onto the screws, and that's quite a lot for those screws and holes. This version can last for maybe a few show days, but not too long, you will need to replace and maintain them often, that's one of the cons for this version. Maybe you can think of new ways to improve that too~
Good luck making your quadsuits :)

the stilts are a little to tall. when making quadsuits, you want your back to be flat, and you don't want your upper half to be higher then your hindquarters. it makes the suit look like there's a person inside of it instead of it actually looking like an animal

Yesss! Thanks for putting this into black and white...I am making a costume for a contest at wrk and knew what I was trying to accomplish but wasn't sure if I was going in the right direction. Im practicing walking on "all fours" in my apartment feeling weird lol. But this video is right on. And i was just telling my friend about walking with a flat back...he says "oooooh kayyy"...lol

So question, do you hold elastic that acts like handstrings in a wrist to pull the paws forward/backwards or something? If not, the paw could move on it’s own and it might make you slip if you don’t step on the paw right?

would you (or anyone else with a quadsuit) reccomend the joints with elastics or without?

    • @stephaniewhw
      @stephaniewhw  5 років тому +1

if you are building quadsuit stilts similar to this, adding elastics makes the movements looks better, it will bounce a little when you move, rather than just "drop", you can see it in the video :)
and like others said, I built these stilts a little too tall, but this is quite an old work now :)

Bolts are used for the joints and then they added elastic to make the movement smoother

Beastcub some times takes commissions for these, but that starts at $15k USD. I recommend watching Beastcub's quadsuit videos to see the motion of the suits to determine stilt shape

videos about 7 years old, but this reminds of this time where some furry purposely put both his hands in dry ice for 1 hour to 3, have to get them surgically removed just so he can have aesthetic paw hands
