  • HGSE Dean Bridget Long presents an overview of the impact and lessons of the global coronavirus pandemic on the field of education. The presentation was delivered in February 22, 2021 at Imagine Solutions, an annual forum (this year, virtual) that brings up to 20 distinguished experts, all widely recognized as prominent in their fields, to engage with an audience of 600 representatives of the private and nonprofit sectors. With a global perspective, national focus, and ability to implement at a local level, the conference is meant to link learning with leadership and to drive change in the world.

Since its founding in 1920, the Harvard Graduate School of Education has been training leaders to transform education in the United States and around the globe. Today, our faculty, students, and alumni are studying and solving the most critical challenges facing education: student assessment, the achievement gap, urban education, and teacher shortages, to name just a few. Our work is shaping how people teach, learn, and lead in schools and colleges as well as in after-school programs, high-tech companies, and international organizations. The HGSE community is pushing the frontiers of education, and the effects of our entrepreneurship are improving the world.

    Hello Bridget,
I am a graduate student at Arizona State University, I am pursuing a Masters degree in Education. Your presentation was very interesting and it covers a crucial topic. The students of today are the leaders of tomorrow and covid 19 has had a profound effect on education.
I am enrolled in a course in which we must research a topic in correlation to education. Your presentation was very educational.

Our children have suffered because the social supports needed in the virtual environment are limited. Hurricane Dorian and a Pandemic brought on learning losses in Abaco, The Bahamas. We are seeking ways to help students become independent learners, meet their psychosocial needs and assist teachers with strategies that would engage each student. I especially like the strategy of prioritizing the curriculum to cater to student needs. Thank you.
