I really, really wished they would have put in detents. Maybe one for afterburner in DCS, and a center for those of us who use the throttle to move forward and backwards in Star Citizen.
@@celery789 So it's better not to have the CM3? I have the CM2 and was considering getting the CM3, but I will not do this depending on your response and thanks so much, you could have saved me quite a bit of money. THX for any feedback you can give me!!!
I got my WarBRD base today. It was worth waiting a couple of months for a piece of real engineering. I have been learning DCS helicopters and there’s a dramatic improvement in my hovering, even without having to get used to it or fine tune it. I’m going to order the throttle as soon as it’s back in stock.
Not good enough, if they don't want to be successful, they can keep doing it their way. There is no excuse to force people to wait and try and buy the minute/second they post the announcement. Luckily there are decent alternatives
For playing Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen (maybe DCS), would you recommend this new throttle or a second stick (like a Virpil Alpha)? My right-hand stick is a CH Fighterstick and I have no experience/habits using a throttle or a second stick (been using a keyboard on left hand).
Read about the Problem to get Virpil Products, checked their Restock Schedule, waited for the addressed Time and bought the CM2 Throttle. Was sold out after 3-4 Minutes so you really need to be fast. But I think if you take the Time to wait for the exact Time they mention, you can easily get their Products. Can't wait for the Throttle to arrive.
@Devilikg Wow, so SC players shouldn't be allowed to buy this? What about Aerofly FS2? That's a bit arcade like too. Is there like a hierarchy of flight sim users with whatever you play at the top and everyone else below your entitled ego? Asking for a friend.
God, the armchair pilots arguing about who uses what and why. makes me wish I could actually afford my own plane. Hard to get much of a chance to fly one when you don't. Simulators are great but they still don't feel much like the real thing. Whatever happened to force feedback sticks anyway? The way that the force on the stick changes as airflow over the control surfaces does is quite useful and interesting to experience. (granted, that's more of a thing in aircraft with mechanical linkages, but that's most of them until you get into really expensive commercial or military aircraft...)
Thanks for the interesting overview. Very well done! I pre-ordered mine in September and it will finally arrive on Monday and it looks like the wait was worth it !
I managed to get one of these ordered and paid for last week during the three hours or so before they sold out. Thanks for the review, I already have a Warbird and VFX. For people who are looking to purchase, watch the page and check it every day and don't expect to get it all at once. When the item you want is in stock, get it. Don't expect to see every item in stock at the same time. I hesitated a long time before I pulled the trigger on one of the Virpil sticks and I paid for mine. If you are on the fence, and you fly simulations more than once a week just do it. I can't wait for the throttle...and then the rudder pedals. Good stuff, well worth the bucks in my opinion.
As a dual-sticker, I currently have my Warthog throttle in the center, as a sim "console control" , like the Millenium Falcon's forward console where they throw the switch to go into lightspeed and other ship controls. For that reason... i wish the "throttle" was more a device "like a throttle" but somewhat different - without the "left hand shape curve" and more something to be mounted front and center, as if on the ship's console in front of the pilot - with "ambidextrous" up/down sliders/levers, buttons, and such.
So glad I got one of the last runs of the Mongoost-50. I love the 2 axis nobs at the bottom and the all button lighting. I SOoooooo wish they had kept the idle and afterburner detents!!! GAH! Just waiting on the new Alphas to come back into stock! Great Review and I can't wait to see your review on that button box!
Yeah I really hate that they dropped the detents. Having a detent at 50% would have been perfect for Star Citizen as that would have let me use the throttle for both forward and reverse thrust. I am checking every restock for the alphas, but I don't expect them to be available until sometime in March. They got way more pre-orders than they had anticipated and they need to fulfill those first.
Hi TheNOOBIFIER1337, thank you for the thorough review. I bought this on pre-order along with L+R Alphas. The hardest part is waiting the 120 days for dispatch. Hopefully I’ll see them by March or April!
Mitsuragi I am very excited for you. I hope it isn’t much longer and please contact me if you have any issues that the recent software video didn’t explain.
Thank you, I’ll be sure to reach out if I do. That aside, I love your channel. I found you a while back from your video on a custom made L Warthog. Thank you for staying with us. :)
Looks good. I am hoping that the RGB lighting can be programmed to change colour based on throttle position e.g. red when afterburner on, blue when idle, green when in the middle. This would get around the lack of detent.
This. This is Star Citizen goals right here. I'm saving now and one day I'll get a full HOSASAT setup but I'll save until we have a release date. Hopefully by then, they'll have stream deck style buttons for those B1-6 buttons so you can put pictures or words within the button.
:) You may be waiting for awhile. I've had my CH HOTAS for nearly 20 years. However, with that said, I pulled the trigger on the Virpil Warbird base & VFX F-14 grip. I'm getting this throttle as soon as it's available. Warning: Virpil's software is light years behind CH's programming.
Thanks N00bifier, Glad your impressed. Virpil just stocked these a couple of days ago and I decided to take the chance on it to go with my alphas. It would have been nice to have detents for playing dcs but I can probably manage without.. Otherwise it does seem rather impressive.
I want something like this, but as a Grandma, I don't want my family to know that I participate is such activites, I wish there were more of a discreet controller that can blend into the surroundings but offer as much precision as these high-quality hotas!
Just received mine this week! Right before the announcement of cm3 thought.... ouch! Any chances of seeing the tutorial for the Leds! Think would be awesome and useful for cm3 too
Hi TheNOOBIFIER1337, thank you for your review. I'm waiting for delivery of my CM2 Virpil Throttle this week, and I hope that the Alphas start been delivery soon.
Looks fantastic. The two things I wouldn't like about it is controlling an analogue ministick with a finger instead of a thumb, and the lack of a detent. I figure a detent would be extremely useful for Star Citizen's new throttle setup. Hitting absolutely 0 throttle without a detent would probably mean setting up a deadzone, which isn't the best solution.
I've been looking for a replacement for my X52 for a few months, and I recently got all fired-up about the Virpil sticks, but it needed a throttle. This...may be just the ticket.
Do it! You can actually use the the Warthog base with Virpil grips if you want, but the precision pales in comparision to the Virpil WarBRD base. Virpil is just so much better in every way.
These devices are amazing looking, but they are way out of my price league. Looking at these alongside what I already own I'd say a logitech X56 is more in my budget. But I guess it's not mutually exclusive, and you can upgrade bit by bit. XD) So... Interesting, for sure, but rather out of my league, I have to say...
For all who want to buy something from virpil. Look for the restock information on their webstore. And if you set your timer to their announced restock time, please don‘t make my mistakes: 10mins before are not enough. Don‘t wait for the annouced time, if there‘s something still out of stock, it will be bought before you came to the shop. So I won‘t try it anymore, but probably I can help someone with my experience : /.
Thanks noob. loved this one. Ill get one if my Hog throttle dies. Though the VKB throttle look s like Itll be good and slides instead of pivots. Thats more a jet sim thing. (when it comes out ) How about reviewing a VKB Kosmosima. Its still better than any Virpil stick. Though that new one gives it a good competition. I like Virpil. I have Virpil. But I love vkb. Share the love and the influence :)
Yet another awesome and informative video. My throttle finally came in and I have been messing around trying to get the buttons to light up with different colors but can only get 5 of the 6 to do so also can't seem to get E2 to work for some reason in SC. I'm sure I'm missing something. anyway, you talked about creating another video on programing this throttle. I look forward to that video unless you have already made it and I'm looking in the wrong place. Thanks for all that you do for the SC community... Cheers
I got the original one. Simply because I prefered it;s layout and the covered switch with the big button with the red outline. I felt it lent itself much better to how I play Elite. And cmon now. I dont want a second box on top of a throttle and joystick to fit on my desk...
So glad that I picked up the CM v.3 before they stopped making it and started to only sell this (CM2) throttle. I’m not a fan of how the CM2 looks, or the fact that it has less functions (requiring you to buy an additional button box and mounting solution for more buttons). That being said, I will almost certainly be selling my v.3 CM throttle once VKB releases their throttle. Can’t wait. To those who ordered one of these, enjoy your new throttle!
I pre-ordered this one back in October and they said it could take up to 90 days before it shipped. Personally I am glad they gave me a pre-order option so I didn't have to bother tracking their re-supply dates and hope that I can click fast enough to place my order before they were sold out. I'm really pissed to learn from this video that this throttle has no detents. Considering the price it should have been included at no extra cost. Had I known that it was missing I would have purchased the CM1 version instead.
The only thing keeping me from purchasing this is lack of afterburner detent. I wouldn’t even need cut-off to be honest but as incredible as this is, no ab detent makes this a no-buy. I’d even pay more for a version with this feature.
Hi @TheNOOBIFIER1337 do you have the video for configuring the B1-B6 buttons? Im just setting up my throttle and Alpha stick and its not really clear how to configure these buttons. Thanks
Just took delivery of my throttle and control panel to add to my r&l alphas - E:D cockpit complete! Before buying the control panel, I had problems finding any reviews - it would be good to see your take on it. Despite being heavy on the wallet I love Virpil's kit!
PS in E:D, the buttons have to be split in to different devices as Elite can only see 32 buttons per device. Any chance of a tutorial on doing that too? I've sorted it myself, but a tutorial from you would be useful for so many people!
@@NOOBIFIER1337 Thanks for this - and for your previous vids. I learned about Virpil based on your Alpha reviews and it's completely changed my space and flight sim experience.
Hi, I have question about the mode switch: is it possible to use this as modifier for other Virpil equipment. For example: I have this throttle + Constellation Alpha. I'm using the mode switch to change to "mining' mode which results in different bindings also for Joystick (the scroll wheel is used for laser output moderation). After that I switch to 'combat' mode: joystick scroll is now used for dynamic zoom.
I was going to buy the old version, waited till the hour of the restock, but apparently taking 5min to checkout was too long, and it was sold out. Now that there's no throttle detents, no thanks. Guess I'll wait another 5yrs for the VKB throttle lol
Amazing set up, with Microsoft flight Sim, star citizen and DCS world I would love upgrade my flight controls. I have the saitek X55 hotas atm. These would be an amazing upgrade.
+BrianMP5T *It definitely looks as though VIRPIL® has itself a problem with the MongoosT-50CM2®:* Too many twin-engine types to accommodate! With the _right_ additional panels, the 'CM2 would be a natural for a universal "fixed-wing attack" simpit, as the only detent universal to all twin jets is flight idle. The VKS Rossija / Sukhoi-25KM2 attack aircraft with Naval Aviation has a full-power "launch" detent just short of the end of stroke; the afterburner controls on the USAF / McDonnell F-101B and VVS SSSR / Mikojan-Gurjevich-19 are similarly set, as the Pratt & Whitney J57 and OKB Tuman'skogo RD-9 have only one injection rate for the 'burners. Contemporary supersonic pursuit jets have the MIL detent just past 50% of the throttle stroke, as they have either multi-zone afterburners (e.g. USAF / McDonnell F-4E, USN / Grumman Iron Works F-14A) or continuously-modulated 'burners.
Just got my CM2 throttle, loving it so far. Can't figure out how to make the LED's react to button pushes though, individual button flashing when pressed for example. I have figured out how to make them change colour or brightness in relation to the throttle position though, that's quite neat, but would prefer visual feedback when pressing buttons with a 2 second flash, or something like that.
I remember a day where I played games with the keyboard arrows only. Now I need an extra brain to handle HOSAS, mouse, keyboard, keypad peripheral, Throttle and tablet,... Or I'm just getting old :-D
I like the previous throttle better personally. The encoder dials on the base of this new one have 'amazon esque' nobs on them (they look cheap) compared to the previous, more premium looking ones on the CM throttle. Just personal preference i guess.
I would have preferred the covered switch over the mode switch. only a few games support such a function. most only know the existence of axes and hotkeys.
Have you done a video on your LED tricks yet? If so I can't seem to find it. I just got a CM3 and was able to figure out the button configurations I needed but the LEDs leave me flummoxed.
Hi NOOBIFIER ! have you figured out the lighting yet (complete & total control of the LEDs) It's a real mystery. I hope they offer a reward for the first person who figures it out.
Great video as always Noobifier. In your set-up what mount are you using for your tablet above the throttle? I'm looking for something that will play nice with the Monstertech system and it looks you have it!
Do you still plan a video about the LED configuration ? How do you change them so easily ? I found to control them through the mode switch very limiting. Thank you for the review :)
glad ive been holding off on spending money on new gear from this company. They had improved alot and now have caught my eye more. sadly vkb is prob going to go out of business if they dont get those sweat shops grinding away. I like the design with this throttle being smaller is fine with me if i do buy one since i have a black hog with plenty of switches
And that's after blowing the canopy off of Thrustmaster Warthogs features, quality and future resistant design. I don't think the competition is in any rush thought to catch up since there is very steep price point assigned to the quality and internal work of the VirPil control peripherals. In other words, you get what you pay for.
OMG..that is the nicest most well built, well thought out throttle I have ever seen. It must also cost a small mortgage. Noob, I love your setup, how do I get your job :)
@@NOOBIFIER1337 awe, now see for that build quality, that is very reasonable. You should have told me it was $600 or more and put it out of reach ;) $300 is actually the high end of doable. Thanks for a typically fantastic review :) Heading over to the Virpil site.
I can't be the only one who wants the analogue stick by the thumb? Understand people have requested it for the fore finger it's just a shame they can't be inter-changed. Theres a good mod that someone did with the old throttle adding an analogue stick to the thumb position but thats a mod and thats bye bye warranty :( It's called a thumbstick for a reason ;) show some love for the thumb.....
you figure out how to do dual joystick mappings so you can switch from left joystick to Throttle? I want to use both depending on situation but you can do dual joystick bindings yet
I think it's a massive bummer they aren't selling the original version of this anymore as I only play Elite and Star Citizen so I want the more space-sim friendly version. I already have a Warthog so I have next to zero reason to upgrade to this given it's so similar. No clue how they are going to stay in business when they change models more often than most change their underwear AND I can't pre-order or get on a list, I have to literally hit refresh on a page the day things go on sale and hope I get something. Not how you run a business.
I think you answered your own question there. They simply can't keep up with demand. It's annoying for us but that's the definition of a successful business. I just ordered one of these a few days ago.
Can you describe whether or not it has a dry-clutch? you started to talk about it , then talked about tightening some screws underneath but didn't see you show the dry-clutch (if it has one)

Thanks
Thanks, Noobifier!!
What did you use to build your frame. The black metal rig holding all your equipment? Where do you buy it?
Boy that Virpil stuff is expensive! But looks to be worth it!!!! Maybe my Christmas gift
This is soooo awesome! Love your vids man! And you reviews are amazing!
Beast setup dude.
Control panel review should be within two weeks. Use joystick gremlin to switch control
@@NOOBIFIER1337 Thanks for this - and for your previous vids. I learned about Virpil based on your Alpha reviews and it's completely changed my space and flight sim experience.
Considering Constellation Alpha for my next joystick upgrade. Can't wait for the Review! As always great work Noobifier!
The more i look at these videos the more i awe, i really want to get a flight setup now
Are there any right handed throttles? For GA/airliner sim setups, right handed throttles would be great.
Awesome piece of technology.
I am so going to buy this throttle + 2 constellation alphas (L+R) once they are available in the store.
Same. Don't forget that you have to buy the bases separately from the grips though
Yes, I believe they overlooked how important that detail was. Almost as if they added it by accident in the past, and then just removed it.
No detent adjustment is kinda a deal breaker for SC.
I'm sure someone will design a 3D printed add-on that will do the trick.
Any word on when the Virpil button box is coming? Searched but have found nothing so far. Thanks
Thanks for the review.
Sweet and informative to the point of distraction :)
Thanks noob
I remember a day where I played games with the keyboard arrows only. Now I need an extra brain to handle HOSAS, mouse, keyboard, keypad peripheral, Throttle and tablet,... Or I'm just getting old :-D
those commodore keyboards were brutal
@@dabneyoffermein595 ZX Spectru+,... arrows at both sides of the space bar :D
@TheNOOBIFIER1337 Is it adjustable? Like can you adjust a bump into the throttle at SCM speed limit like with the old one?
I like the previous throttle better personally. The encoder dials on the base of this new one have 'amazon esque' nobs on them (they look cheap) compared to the previous, more premium looking ones on the CM throttle.
Just personal preference i guess.
Great review. I don't like the look of the new throttle. The old one look much more stylish.
Can't wait to get my throttle in hand! It's gonna be tough to decide where I wanna bind everything in SC.
I would have preferred the covered switch over the mode switch. only a few games support such a function. most only know the existence of axes and hotkeys.
great review, is it possible to remove the yellow painted parts you think?
Have you done a video on your LED tricks yet? If so I can't seem to find it. I just got a CM3 and was able to figure out the button configurations I needed but the LEDs leave me flummoxed.
I will plan to do it in the near future
Hi NOOBIFIER ! have you figured out the lighting yet (complete & total control of the LEDs) It's a real mystery. I hope they offer a reward for the first person who figures it out.
This is quality gear. Thanks for the intro
Great video as always Noobifier. In your set-up what mount are you using for your tablet above the throttle? I'm looking for something that will play nice with the Monstertech system and it looks you have it!
It was a mount that I found on Amazon. www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00LULUYHC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
@@NOOBIFIER1337 Thanks heaps :)
NOOOOO the analog thumbstick isn't in a position that I can use my thumb on it... :( this is why I still use my CHPRO throttle
(QUESTION) The button box shown at 4:22, is that the upcoming box from Virpil ? I am asking because what I see on their site does look different.
There were various prototypes
@@NOOBIFIER1337 Ahh ok. Thanks for the quick reply !
Wow that’s sexy! Thanks mate!
Makes me want to replace my Warthog throttle. I especially like the auxiliary button box add-on.
It would make more sense to me if the analogue stick were placed for thumb control instead...
Rock solid hardware! Well worth the $.
Virpil has really stepped up their game. Thanks for the review!
And that's after blowing the canopy off of Thrustmaster Warthogs features, quality and future resistant design. I don't think the competition is in any rush thought to catch up since there is very steep price point assigned to the quality and internal work of the VirPil control peripherals. In other words, you get what you pay for.
Noobfier, question: does it come with USB cable from the unit to the computer since I never saw a USB plug like the one on the unit... Thanks!
Yes.
OMG..that is the nicest most well built, well thought out throttle I have ever seen.
It must also cost a small mortgage.
Noob, I love your setup, how do I get your job :)
I think it’s being sold for $300 US.
@@NOOBIFIER1337 awe, now see for that build quality, that is very reasonable. You should have told me it was $600 or more and put it out of reach ;)
$300 is actually the high end of doable.
Thanks for a typically fantastic review :)
Heading over to the Virpil site.
After using both throttles which would you consider better? I’m not sure about the red plastic switches they appear cheap.
I am a sucker for new. As I have both, I have the original on the sim rig for DCS due to the detente. The red switches are NOT low quality..
I can't be the only one who wants the analogue stick by the thumb? Understand people have requested it for the fore finger it's just a shame they can't be inter-changed. Theres a good mod that someone did with the old throttle adding an analogue stick to the thumb position but thats a mod and thats bye bye warranty :(
It's called a thumbstick for a reason ;) show some love for the thumb.....
Fantastic product review. Really excited that you're continuing to do these. :) Top notch quality. Much appreciated!
you figure out how to do dual joystick mappings so you can switch from left joystick to Throttle? I want to use both depending on situation but you can do dual joystick bindings yet
I map them so that they all just work. There is no need to switch anything
The page for the restock does not seem to be working. Do you know whats app with that?
You need to pre order now...
Yes it has adjustable tension.
@@NOOBIFIER1337 thanks!
