Please Greg don't stop your builds for us to watch. You do a brilliant job, your one of my favourite you tube builders. Sorry been a bit self endulgent.👍🍻🇦🇺🇬🇧
Looks really lovely Greg. I have this kit but I need to get a few more builds under my belt first to do it justice. The engineering and attention to detail I think are first class. I'll definitely be coming back to this video for reference when the time comes. Thank you.
Gorgeous. I was interested to note that the kit comes with a choice of 3 famous classic markings. All of which I have built in various scales from several manufacturers over the years. The detail here is far more impressive than the other makes, although 1/32nd scale heavily eats into my available display space. Another excellent job and more lessons learned from you. Cheers.
Im sure the roundels were a pain in the proverbial for you, but it definitely adds to the finished result. A beautiful presentation, as always. I hope the house move will go quickly and we’ll see you again soon! Ian
Another truly excellent build Greg. Always a pleasure to watch and learn from a master at work. Can’t wait for your next project no matter when you complete and upload it 😁👍🏻
Hi Greg. The mysterious "they" say that truth hurts. Well, your masterpieces prove it dosen't have to. Another rip snorter sir! You bring the model to life with the care and attention you put into it, whilst doing your best to sound as if you're not bothered! Wonderful work again. Thank you.

This is one of best builds I've ever seen on UA-cam. Great, especially cockpit, exhaust and painting masks. ;) Totally awesome. I feel Wingnut Wings in this kit (even instruction is a bit similar somehow), and Your works added to it resulted with perfect result. All the best for You! ;)
Bravo sir! Tremendous work as always. Thankyou for all your hard work.. amazing!!! Also loved the funny comments and amusing yourself whilst completing the build.. "rear bottom" also made me chuckle!! Look after yourself and looking forward to seeing your next build!
Just come across this video (and others). Blimey, modelling has come along since my day in the 1970’s! I haven’t made a model since at least 1982, but I’m really thinking now I’m fast approaching 60 that I’ve missed out on a lot of years of modelling enjoyment. As an aside, does anyone out there remember Hancock & Smith model shop in Epping, Essex? I spent a lot of my childhood haunting that place.
I hope you're not going to retire altogether i really look forward to your videos and thats another great model Greg, I love the early black and white RAF camouflage it looked really good on the early Hurricanes as well. I've got a great ref book here that I use for my models its called "Britsh Aviation Colours of WWII", published by AAP in 1986, (i bought it as an aircadet in the 1980s- i'm showing my age there) its got all the colour swatches, sqn letters, cami schemes etc. You should have a look for it online? Please, please, please, please, keep up the good work and keep publishing your model videos on YT. Best wishes to you from NZ.
@@GregsModels thanks mate I was getting worried you were going to pack it in. Your models are some of the best of what I've seen on YT. take care and best wishes.
Hope this isn't your Swan song.I think your approach; thinking on your feet, admitting your mistakes and your laid back dry humour, make your builds some of the most enjoyable on you tube. The results are beautiful. Thanks for all the enjoyment you have given me.
@Greg's Models I get it, new house and all that goes with it. It would be good to see you resurrect some smaller ,1/72 vintage Airfix and matchbox kits.I look forward to your next build whatever the subject. All the best.
Re squadron markings; yes the format was "*single letter* - *two letters*". The single letter identified the individual aircraft within the squadron, the squadron was the two letter identifier.
Quality over quantity Greg. Smashing stuff as always and looking forward to when you have the time to do some more. We'll all be waiting I'm sure. ATB, Rich'
Lovely build. I have a Mk1 also and seeing this video has tempted me to drop my current project (me163) to do a spitfire, one of my all time favourites.
I have to agree that this is a very good detailed kit of an early Spitfire that is well presented with a lot of information. This said I wish that it had an engine and gun bay details. If you are not too worried about the version of Spitfire then the Tamiya 1/32 kit of the MK iX has an engine and a much higher parts count.
@@GregsModels if it's the modelling you're worried about there's no need, so try not to (easier said than done 😶). Financially it's a bit of a bastard for (almost) everyone at the moment. If you start ko-fi again I'll try and help if I can. You've provided a lot of inspiration and entertainment to many people and I hope you can continue 😉
I also have been unsure of the Microset/Microsol debate but after looking about I've come to the conclusion that Microset is good for all normal decals on flat/near flat surfaces and Microsol works better on convex/concave situations where getting decals to conform to compound curves where the curve is not linear.A very beautiful build and paintwork.
Microset (blue) is a wetting solution that makes transferring and positioning your decal easier. Microsol (red) diSOLves the decal film, adhering it to the surface. You can't move or touch the decal once you've applied Microsol as it usually turns to goo. Ask me how I know. Granted, these solutions came out decades ago, at least as far back as the 1970's, and decals have improved. But, I still see that bilboard MILWAUKEE ROAD decal turning to a black string when I tried "fixing it" after applying Microsol way back in 1999.
Hi Greg, I have watched your builds for a while & enjoyed emensley. Good luck with the move. As far as the spit goes, well, I hate to say it. It's another spit. Other than the booklet & great research with original images, which is always welcome, but again, colour would be more adventurous. Looking at the exhaust, most appear to be discoloured. I think I will give it a miss though. All the best.
THis is a very nice kit and build. You knailed it. Just on picky comment, hope you don't mind. The interior green of the spitfires was a bit more paler. This one looks like US aircraft interior green that was more bright and strong color.
Beautiful build and walk through Greg for small builds could i suggest a nice 1/700 destroyer not seen you build a ship yet marra 😁 . Look after yourself . Regards Gav.
Greg, what did you do when the fuselage half’s didn’t fit together correctly? I would love to know how you handled that? Was it a result of poor design/engineering of the kit, or did you make a mistake in one of the earlier steps? The video is great. Thank you. Eric.
I wouldn't like to say, but I used a little bit of talcum powder mixed with super glue to fill the area. There are plenty of videos out there that would show you this filler. Flory's Models channel is one.
Another brilliant video Greg - what a great result. You have the knack of managing to make the extraordinary seem easy - which is one of the reasons your channel is the only model channel I follow on UA-cam. Sorry to hear you're going to be cutting back on builds - but I understand that the building - and, more importantly - the filming and editing takes vastly longer than most viewers realise, and that 'real life' has to take priority. I will continue to look for your new releases - and will undoubtedly enjoy every one - you've never let me down yet. Thank you Greg for sharing. Your build video is informative and entertaining. Impressive results that shows that the Kotare kit is a high quality, accurate model. As for the issue with wing surface detail. The leading D section of the Spitfire wings was 14 gauge the rest mostly 20g thick sheet held in place with flush rivets. The D section surface was made smooth with putty and sprayed primer/filler. The Australian War Memorial w/site has a official RAF training film titled; 'Streamline Colour' by Guild Films that shows the practices in preparing and painting High Speed Aircraft.
Excellent job on the "Spit". It is a great and detailed offering far better than the Revell one that I have in the same scale. Keep up the good work, looking forward to your next build.
Excellent build, Greg! I really enjoyed your detailed explanations of the build progression. The end result looks fantastic. I'll definitely be referring to your video again when I start building mine. Thank you for taking the time to produce this video!
To do the centre red dot, use your compass cutter on the Tamiya tape to cut the right size. Do it twice, a decent spacing apart. Then using the same centre point cut around the edge, to a size just under the outer white area. Then you can lift up the mask and place it within the blue circle on the model with confidence that the hole will be centered. Mask around the outer edges to prevent over spray. Hope this is useful to you.
