    This game sucks then. The admin is never around, so some players think that he doesn't even exist. The balancing in the game totally sucks, and you can't even make your own character. You just get a random character that may or may not be amazing. Sometimes, you get stuck with the wrong gender and it costs so much money to change it.

      No. What they mean is that we are in an Intelligent Environment. In deep learning, the computer is not programmed to do anything at all besides improve its "score", it uses every control option that exists randomly, when it finds one that improves its score, it makes a new generation of itself that is more prone to using that control, slowly building genetic generations which have higher scores. So, our universe is likely doing the same thing our deep learning AI's do, but with a goal of creating more complexity, or order, or something of that nature. In the process of doing so, the Universe, an AIE (Artificially Intelligent Environment), created us, not even a human.

    • @ryanc5371
      @ryanc5371 8 років тому +1

      So, to answer your question, We have 2 Gods. One that is the Universe Simulation (that creates more and more complex structures inside itself to advance "evolution", but beyond just life forms, stars, and planets, etc. as well. The other God is the creator of that simulation, and can be a Human, a consciousness, or a machine.

      +Poneomenus Trismegistus if that is the case, what happens when we die?

    • @Aer0xander
      @Aer0xander 8 років тому +2

      According to Buddhism, we are "one", but you can only experience life one at a time. People die, people are born, it's like we are windows over a very big dimmed light. How can we not connected to the universe, if we are in the universe, with it being in us. We came out of this world. And when you die, you'll probably be born again, you'll just be vibrating on different wavelengths and neurons ;)
      If we create an A.I, it will be another "one". It will be vibrations, or 0 and 1's, again in 0 and 1's.
      Even the universe will die one day, and when it days, another "one" will be created, because without death there can be no life. It has to contrast each other, like 0 and 1's.

      ING don't rate games on quality, but how much money they where giving. Allso how big the company is worth. They don't want to give a bad rating on a game then have that company sue them. Look at EA Maxis Simcity 2013 (what a joke). The game was still in alpha mode. IGN gave it a 7.0 really even though it's in alpha still. 26 Awards how? It took me 4 days till I could even long on the server to play by myself. 5 weeks of rollbacks on their servers. All the big rating companies are paid off. I think someone made a very good point in terms of quantum mechanics. So one very good reason why things are only revealed once they are measured would be to save computation so they are only processed and calculated when needed... On the other hand the coupled randomness would speak against a simulation as randomness is inefficient to simulate (at least for us).

      Not so fast. This holds true if your value system is the mainstream value system (ie: wealth, status, fame etc) as being the main determinants. Worth noting that these determinants are given to us by third parties and basically imposed or conditioned into populations.
      But if you have a different value system, then he may well be a loser. It comes down to what a person's value system is.
      Since most, by definition, tend to have the mainstream herd mentality value system, sure he's kicking butt. But not everyone wants to play that game, because it may be seen as boring or undesirable, for a multitude of reasons.

    The guy asking the question wasn't really paying attention to Musk's approach. To Elon, it's clearly all statistical - there is an overwhelming probability of us existing in a simulated reality. The other dude wants to hear him say "yeah this is real because in virtual reality we wouldn't need to sleep" or something like that, but of course, as Musk said, virtual reality is indistinguishable, hence there is absolutely no way of knowing or having an opinion. If you accept that our reality can be entirely simulated, then a definitive answer to the question of whether our reality is real is pure guesswork. All we have is probability. And, therefore, what Musk thinks is "one in billions". It's not a personal belief, it's a fact.
    Throughout the above I've assumed Musk is entirely right. I recognise though that he could be wrong.

    • @1badjesus401
      @1badjesus401 8 років тому +1

      I was thinking the exact same thing...when the guy asked (a lil rudely i might add) "so is that a yes?"..Musk had already answered his question. Its an interesting theory one that i felt was "probable" for sometime...even rebutting arguments like: "How can these Advanced Engineers (for lack of a better term) allow such things as the Holocaust, pestilence, war, famine etc ..to occur if they have SUPREME control? they must be either evil or amoral" to which i would answer: Do any of us feel overly distraught or sad when a character in Call of Duty dies?..no. because the characters are SIMULATIONS and not real...hence why these speculative futuristic beings don't feel empathy towards our sorrows. ...with that said over the years ive read allot on the theory and all of Nick Bostrom's papers as well as the OPPOSING arguments...and ive come to believe that it probably doesn't exist and that we are in fact REAL. Just because something is PROBABLE doesn't make it an INEVITABILITY. With the recent discovery of gravitational waves etc..i think the science can logically/philosophically help the argument AGAINST this simulated universe concept...i.e. why not keep our reality within the "designed grid" ? with gravitational waves proving Einsteins theory and the fact these waves originated BILLIONS of light years away shows us "that distance" DOES in fact exist. If our reality disappears as soon as we turn around and only forms upon our "viewing of it" (double slit experiment) then WHY the "invention" of gravitational waves originating from an unfathomable distance? anyway...the whole concept is VERY intriguing and im certain we'll learn more about it, but as of now i lean away from it. I also get the impression Nick Bostrom doesn't fully 100% believe were IN a simulation now..he states only that 1 of his 3 probabilities are true...

They would eventually start to wonder where did they come from and how was their world created, was there an intelligent designer- God? Now let's say that the game is DRM free, no connection to internet needed and it doesn't get any updates. Could they ever figure out that they are in a video game and how could they reach outside of it? If they manage to do that and figure out that there are millions of copies sold and there are multiple save games for each with other versions of their characters, what would they think? They were created just to fill the world for the player and not to mention it's just a one game title, and maybe not a very good one. There would be millions of other games with their own worlds with millions of copies sold, each independent from another. How meaningless would be the life of that one NPC in that one save game from some kid who bought the game?

      I think it matters because for one it’s about knowing the truth about what we are. If we took your thought process of why does it matter science and healthcare would be hundreds of years behind where we’re at. Also, if we are in a simulation of some sort it becomes more possible to hack it, adjust it, fix it, expand it, and duplicate it and so on. As humans it seems many of us are wired to know as much about what and who we are as possible so simply saying "who cares" is similar to saying ignorance is bliss, but for myself and many others that saying is not true, I would rather know for sure than live a lie.

    The flaw with Musk's argument is that he doesn't consider a point where technology may not be able to advance within the limitations of the universe. The advancement in technology is more likely logistic growth rather than exponential due to these confinements of nature.

    • @kwl6251
      @kwl6251 8 років тому +2

      I might be misinterpreting it:
      But they're the limitations in our universe. In the world where our reality is being simulated, what says that their reality has the same limits as ours.
      And if they did have the same limits as ours then how could they have simulated our world?

    • @camjo6397
      @camjo6397 8 років тому +1

      It is to say that it is a less likely assumption that this universe would have unhindered growth as opposed to a "base" universe where restrictive laws of nature may or may not be present to the same degree, which we are obviously less informed.

    • @camjo6397
      @camjo6397 8 років тому +2

      Also, Musk assumes a "deist" approach to our possible creators. Why we don't see random spontaneous interference is reason to believe that either someone created a simulation in the sense to watch as a movie without involvement or to manipulate our simulations "under the radar". Both are unlikely due to the idea that we are assuming the logic of our "simulation" is sound enough to extrapolate understanding of one beyond ours and that if so, the idea of Occam's razor would suggest that this scenario is all the more improbable.

    • @arsonistictarantula3036

      I'm just saying, a simulation of this scale would be beyond comprehension. 7.4 billion people alone with 5 senses each, all triggering at different times as well as the different complex thoughts running through each individuals heads; animal and insect life, all independent of themselves regardless of whether working as a hive mind or not; plant life which would include millions of different plants with different functions as well as the effects of nature on each and every leaf and blade of grass; underwater life with the same parameters; The randomness of nature and it's effect on everything in the list above; space and the trillions of simulated galaxies and stars, all independent to an extent; and the list goes on and on. Is it really conceivable that there is a computer large enough to simulate all of this simultaneously? Human imagination is pretty limitless, but I'm sure with all of these variables, it's mind boggling.

    I don't think we can really compare ourselves to if there are creators of this game. They might be in a 11 dimension world, or dimensions could be a concept built for this game, there might be no time dimension in their world. Or you can imagine anything. And if this is a game, then it should be create by a very advance civilization...

    This video made me think a bit about the double slit experiment and differences in behavior of photons when observed and when not. It makes a lot of sense in context of simulation theory.
    If we are living in a simulation, and every simulation requires a processing unit to compute all the data generated and if it is client oriented (we being the clients) it would make huge amount of sense for it to use a simpler algorithm when calculating electromagnetic radiation than to calculate speeds and positions of infinite amount of particles emitted by all radiations sources all the time.
    It would only calculate specific particles when there is a need to do so (client is measuring) therefore when measuring is not being performed a wave pattern is observed because not every particle is calculated and when measuring is occurring, the system calculates individual particles and you have deterministic result.
    The same could be true for quantum world in general, system is limited in processing power and therefore is forced to calculate micro world, where consequences of mistakes are not dramatic, with probabilistic algorithms, and reserve determinism for macro world where client would otherwise observe the irregularity of the system and randomness would compromise the simulation.

    The only possible flaw in the argument is the assumption that technology can keep improving until we have not just a photorealistic simulation, but one that feels real to all the senses for a whole life. No one knows whether that's the case.

  • @patinho5589
    @patinho5589 2 роки тому +1

    So I’ll engage in the argument:
    1) one flaw I want to take up is that when you plug yourself into the game, you’d remember doing that when you come into the game. Unless the game included a memory wiping / locking mechanism in its interface.
    2) why would you enter a game / virtual reality with so much pain? Perhaps it has less pain than the base reality.
    3) I have access to information given to mankind by the Cosmic Masters which does not cover this. They would have mentioned I think if this were the case.

      No, most people that knows the truths of life and existence, and themselves for that matter, are most likely to be poor, and has been in experience(s) of trauma, or by being in contact and practise of meditation/mindfulness and so on :)

  • @ClearTheRubble7
    @ClearTheRubble7 8 років тому +3

    The first time I heard about the simulation hypothesis, or whatever it's called, I scoffed outwardly, but inwardly I felt a chill. Since then, almost everything that happens in my life and almost every thought I have seems to point in the direction of this being a "virtual" reality. I would have seemingly impossible and complex series of synchronicities--or coincidences--that would last for days, deja vu, "psychic" experiences, lucid dreams in which I explore "alien" places that are as detailed as this reality. And so on.
    A few days ago I had a vivid dream that started off in a place I remembered from my childhood, and that led directly into three simultaneous dreams, one of which was lucid, and one of which was the fully developed life of someone else. (I mean, I was someone else entirely in the dream--a young man working in a run-down factory in some eastern European country in the 1940's or 1930's, surrounded by people I knew in that life, but whom I never met in this one.) When I woke up, I wondered how it was possible for the brain to conjure up a world that was different from, yet just as detailed as, this one. And also, how was it possible to have three simultaneous and yet separate dreams, the details of each I could remember with no problem when I woke up. And how could I be aware that I was dreaming in one of those dreams while being unaware in the other two? (By the way, the factory dream seemed to be the answer to a question that someone posed in a UA-cam video I had watched that day: how do we know whether or not reincarnation is real if we don't remember anything about our former lives? Was the factory a real one that I had worked in, in another life?)
    I used to be a materialist/determinist type of thinker, believing that consciousness derived from the brain, but now I see the brain as a kind of filter/receiver for consciousness--which actually comes from somewhere else. From someone who's "playing" me? From a Great Programmer? Are we just avatars, etc. etc? Anyway, since I had the dream(s), this whole subject has been on my mind quite a bit.

    • @ClearTheRubble7
      @ClearTheRubble7 8 років тому

      No, getting a GF would most likely lead to me thinking even more, because I would then question whether she was a mindless sprite spawned or instantiated within the virtual reality matrix by me having triggered something without realizing it, or if she were an avatar sprite controlled by a fully sentient being or consciousness outside of the matrix.
