Every single thing about this video took me back to my Granddad's. The cattle panel gate next to the garden, working the ground (although Granddad used a tiller), and the dogs running through everything! And he waved at everyone who drove by - I laughed when people were honking and you were waving. I hope to have time to drive by and see some of the progress when I am down your way this spring.
I love seeing fields being worked & imagining what crops will come up. Nothing better, for me at least, than to be driving down a country road, here in central Indiana, on a sunny day and see plowed fields on either side. Just makes me smile, makes me feel good. Weird, I know. Love the Old Byrd Farm & the work you continue to do, Robert.
Nothing like the aroma of freshly turned soil!😊. Lucky you being able to get started! It'll be a couple more months before I can get going outside up here in NW Ohio. That's ok.👍 Happy gardening robert!😃
The first peaches came to America with the Spanish monks that came into St. Petersburg Florida in the mid 1500’s , they originally came from china, and were called Persian plum until later on , even though they didn’t come from Persia
Have to say your dirt looks really good. I bet each year it’ll get even better. Really enjoyed a bit of history about the peach tree. Never knew they officially came from China. I always thought Georgia Peaches tasted the best. Whenever we went on vacation my Mama made my daddy stop n buy Georgia Peaches. Us kids would get belly aches eating so many. Got so tickled watching Annie nipping at Blues behind trying to play with him. It was so cute. Come on rain n germinate those seeds! ♥️♥️😊👍👍👏🌟
When I visited Georgia 4 years ago my aunt, in her 90's, wanted to see her friend, also in her 90's in Dallas, Georgia. I asked the friend were there any Georgia peaches around there. She got to thinking and said no! She had to dust off her brain cells (nothing bad intended with this remark) and said she thought the peaches were down in south central Georgia. Is that the Macon area you were mentioning? Everyone thinks Georgia has peaches everywhere. Just like everyone thinks Hawai'i has pineapple plantations all over, which they don't. I like your fuzzy microphone! It's a good assest! You don't have to be right by the camera for us to hear you. Also like that you can get your garden in shape so fast with your tractor setup. My husband insists on using the old kind of rototiller that beats you to death, not the nicer walk behind kind. Look forward to seeing the crops! And oh yes, dogs AND cats are such a "help" in the garden!
You are becoming a true farmer. You will be the envy of the neighborhood. Did you plant Georgia collards or cabbage collards? The soil is looking better and better every year. Do you have crackling to put in your cornbread? You are making me hungry. True southern cooking.
Not sure if there will be a garden on our property this year, will just have to wait and see what is going on with Paul and I. Still have my peppers down in the basement, and will have water them soon again. Living here in Upper Northeast Illinoios, and just wondering when to replant them outside. The front field DOES look better than it did last yr. Annie and Blue just helping you out in the seeding 🙂always great to have such help.
so nice you are starting a new garden! are you going to have tomatoes too? peppers? I cannot wait for the honey! so looking for more peach trees, what other fruit trees? keep up the great work. happy gardening Robert.
My favorite tractor implement was a power tiller. It was towed behind the tractor and hooked to the PTO. We put a few solid cinder blocks on it to weigh down, and that rascal created perfect soil for planting.
Time to prune the Peach Trees...? In the orchard, start spring pruning early enough to be completed before the leaves appear. > Look up...Why and How to prune. You will need to prune your peach trees annually to promote general tree vigor and yields. Pruning, fertilization, pest management, and irrigation can influence peach tree performance greatly.
Hello Robert you have done great work on the old bird farm.. Have you seen a ghost, your hair is standing up 😅 just joking... You have really done well. You are amazing...I love peaches.
I'm looking forward to the summer fruit season here. Brenda, my sister and I love the local peaches in Fresno County. My mother used to make peach pie, cobbler, and ice cream. We had a peach tree in my parents backyard up in Madera, but the wood weavils got it. 😢
How do you get hooked with selling produce to local restaurants? I grow collards, turnips, and mustard greens on the side to individuals in the Fall, but I would like to get hooked up with a local restaurant and sell to them in larger quantities.
I'm EXcited about the peaches getting to grow this year!..collards whatabout some blueberries?.. I have 2 little clear bags of the sort of small round water melons Would you like them ???..i live in an up stairs apt oh yeai meant to ask are you going to have any artifacts maybe with making some out of candles of the ol Byrd Farm for sale later on this year?..👍🐈⬛🦮🐓🐥🐦🐛🦋🌳🐞🌿🫐🍊🥬🥦😃
Your soil looks good! Here I am guessing we won't be planting see to the last day of snow and frosting is over, probably another month away. I am curious how is the floor going in the house?
I grew up in Benning Hills when it was a great place to live.69 thru 75. Now...not so much. We still have a friend whos in her 80s who lives up there. She doesnt want to leave. I grew up playing in those hills and at the cemetery. I wish they would dig them up and move them. It probably wont make it one more generations. Benning Hills is from Shelby to victory drive and Esquelline Heights is from Shelby towards the cemetery to Calhoun drive. I wonder if the Calhoun tract, still there today is where the plantation was. There use to be gorgeous magnolia in there. There use to be so many blackberry bushes in there too. There use to be so many huge trees back there and we would climb up them and be 20 feet in the air. Now that im thinking about it, there were some fruit trees in the open field. Annie stole the shot in this video today.
Hey Robert going to ask a question I'm an Aussie here but may i ask what are collards? Sorry if spelling is wrong but I'd really like to know Thanks in advance to you or a viewer
They are a type of green leafy vegetable, high-producing and nutrient packed. Apparently good fried up in a hot cast iron pan....I dehydrated mine and throw them into soup/omelettes, etc.👌
Peach trees do indeed come from china. Peach trees do much better in a colder environment. The Bell of Georgia is the most native tree in Georgia. Ours is now in its third year and covered with hundreds of golf ball sized peaches. Just waiting for them to finish.
Garden coming soon!

I love watching this . i also like the smell of dirt being turned over! Thank you thank you 😊 🙏 ☺️ 😌
Those last few comments made me so hungry for southern cooking. Greens with some bacon and cornbread. Simple, but so delicious.
Robert,
I don't remember you using a disk harrow last year, this has got to be way easier than without it!
Happy growing!
Cheers,
Rik Spector
I enjoy watching side step and the old Bird form

Our snow just left, super early! You have beautiful spring! I can't wait!
Also true for a tractor owner...you never have all the attachments you want

I love collards and corn bread. Lots of pot liquor, too!

Good to see! Hope they do well for you. Add a ham hock to the pot. 👍👍❣❣
Seeding reminds me, How is Ms Vickie? Cant wait to see growth. Hi Blue and Miss Annie!
We used to mix kale, turnip and mustard greens together. We cooked it together. It was delicious.
Thank you Robert, Great Video
Spring is so exciting
Do you ever talk to Aaron? I think he is needing some support. He seems to be having a tough time 😢
You are becoming a true farmer. You will be the envy of the neighborhood. Did you plant Georgia collards or cabbage collards? The soil is looking better and better every year. Do you have crackling to put in your cornbread? You are making me hungry. True southern cooking.

Do you ever think about mulching all of the trees and wood that you burn you wouldn’t have to go out and buy mulching this year
Loved seeing you till and seed. Annie girl and Blue are good doggies
Oh yes! Turnip greens!😋
You have done an awesome job, love watching
Remember to pull that mint plant out and pot it, it vigorous and will tunnel ground like the wisteria xx
You should invite Miss Vickie over again n help each other out gardening.😊
You need to expand your garden because Brent has two restaurants!
Well Robert guess I have to drive south at harvest time 😊❤
WOWAH!!! That plowing did go so much better!!! Begone wisteria!!😂

Your peppers can go out after the date of the last frost in your zone.
Will you have your gardening friend from last spring back to help this year? Hope all your turnips turn up.
I'm so ready to garden but alas I live in northern Ohio! Soon!
Great work Robert

Nice to meet you, Annie! 🦴❤🐾

Mustard greens are good with a drop of vinegar
Try Texas Pete pepper sauce 😅🇺🇸
Do you still have the chickens? I haven't seen or heard them in a while.
Been waiting for this.
Hmmm collard greens, black eyed beans and fried chicken ❤❤❤❤!

💞
Do you plant corn on the farm? We have grown pole beans in with the corn and also pumpkins. They do good together.
How do you get hooked with selling produce to local restaurants? I grow collards, turnips, and mustard greens on the side to individuals in the Fall, but I would like to get hooked up with a local restaurant and sell to them in larger quantities.
I'm beginning to think it's actually warmer in Georgia than Maine 🤔

How come you never use the old ford tractor anymore?
It's worn out, says Robert.
Yeah I guess that makes sense about 80 years old
I'd like to comment on your literary skill when writing your update notes. Did you take creative writing in college?
I have a great recipe for cornbread with corn in it I need to send you 😋
How many years ago did they plant ?
