      Plantubers use $200 grow lights because they are given them for free, for promotional purposes. I have turned down probably a dozen people. Of course they cost more because of the advertisement. I'd rather just buy my own.

I got two tiny 2.5 inch pots of sunrise over summer and was able to take cuttings in the fall and only rencently added them into the mother pot and I'm so delighed seeing all the leaf phases to this plant. It took my Hoya sunrise almost a year to change colors. Placed in the sun, it just kept putting out new growth of green leaves. The leaves even got a bit fried but still remained green. I decided to keep it in the same place where it gets lots of sun. Then this winter the whole plant started to show beautiful colors. I dunno if the season plays a part. Maybe the short daylight and the temperature drop in winter nights(no snow) are key to the change of colors?

    • @phytosexual
      @phytosexual  3 роки тому +2

      I’m sure you can over-do practically anything. Of course energy is involved producing the pigments, and the pigments are involved protecting the plant from too much sun. I assume, ideally, the amount of light near sun stressing is probably the optimal amount of light for growth and flowering.

    I’m curious if temperature also has some effect on sun stress color. I live in Oklahoma and in the summer it’s sunny and hot af. In April and May I have great color on my succulents that are outside, but in July and August, when it’s upper 90s and into the 100s, my color is very bland. Colors start improving again in the fall until I have to start moving plants indoors in October. I have new grow lights this winter in my garage where I keep my plants that can take the cooler temps (probably gets down into the low 40s on really cold nights), and I have some of the most intense coloration on most everything. What are your thoughts and observations?

    • @phytosexual
      @phytosexual  3 роки тому +1

      There is a thing with succulents called cold stress, that's probably what's going on, would not recommend that with Hoyas because they are a highly tropical group of plants for the most part.

      Some plants need certain light schedules to flower, otherwise a lot of them don't care for foliar growth.

    Did any of yall actually pay attention to the video with some of these questions...Also, how the hell yall think plants survive in nature with actual hot sun exposure! Plants native environments do not have half of the things people in the plant community swear they need to survive and thrive.🥴

      Everyone wants to do everything but give plants light, the most important thing.

      @Kimberly Ma'am I wasnt saying 24hr light is good I'm referring to the fact plants are perfectly fine being exposed to sunlight and grow lights for light stressing it aint any different and they do just fine. The way yall baby these plants in the plant community is comical.

    i think it is really important to speak more about the lights that can affect the sunstress, but you did not talk abou them at all.
