Sandboxing does not protect from this kind of problem since the push is trusted. Someone did not do enough testing and like all things modern they tend to push it to everyone rather than in stages. ADHD society we live in now.

Restore to before the 5th of July 2024. Reboot from original edition of your windows. Avoid downloading this from the net. Run repair from original disk backup, not online. Blue screen of death may repeatedly bug you otherwise. Personal experience over weeks. Greetings from Australia.
Like the IT guy said, antivirus is a special program that requires elevated access to the lower levels of the OS. This driver that connects the antivirus software to the lower level broke. Think of a driver like a normal application you install and run, the applications can have bugs and crash but when an app crashes you can restart it and continue on in most cases, it doesn't bring down the OS. But when a driver crashes it will create a BSOD. Drivers are used all over the place to make your hardware work but some software may have a driver. When the OS boots it loads the drivers before it gets to the login prompt so your hardware is detected and works. Well when the antivirus driver tried to load it created an immediate crash creating a loop. Only way to stop the driver from loading is to boot into safe mode and remove the software or driver causing the problem. Having to boot into safe mode is the cause of why this is taking so long to fix, each machine needs to be touched. The good news is the fix is simple, just takes a bit of time and human resources.
Hmm, seems more like a cyber attack being explained away as a software glitch. In other words, a lie to prevent mass panic. If the software glitch on the update exists that could cause this, "Crowdstrike" should stick to selling apples on a street corner somewhere. No possible way an update would have been released that was untested. No way, not buying it.
it is a problem with windows just indirectly. because of the way it's shimmed into windows and windows has a huge history of security vulnerabilities even coming from microsoft itself and windows forces updates to install mandatory via most corporate IT policies
@@r13hd22 LOL that is not used on desktop typically in corporate environments which is primarily what is being reported as the problem here. and it's inherently a lot more secure than windows server anyway due to the open source kernel. it runs a ton of the internet backend services workloads and most compute on azure and aws are linux vms which by themselves have security built into it via vmware so this is nearly not even needed on linux anyway
So it sounds like the way to disrupt or take over most things is thru cyber-security company. Sounds like a bad idea for one company to have its fingers in so many things. What if bad actor got inside Microsoft or Google.

there is no such thing as a Microsoft/Google powered phone. Its one or the other. Your phone, does not use Cloustrike and IT is not effected by this. Any APPS you are using that is cloud based MIGHT BE.
@@xge555 it's confirmed as crowdstrike, there is a massive global outage confirmed as being caused by a bad kernel driver pushed by them. Your BSOD issues can be caused by something else, unrelated to this, because you are unlucky. This report is on the crowdstrike outage.

Antivirus is not sandboxed, it runs like a driver in Windows. Basically ring 0. Any misbehaving ring 0 driver can cause BSOD.

If it detects that the system needs updating to be compatible, then it shouldn’t update those devices/ systems.
