      Poker and chess have always been interlinked. The skillset required is quite similar. The big difference obviously is that poker has tons of variance and chess has zero variance. But the thought process is pretty similar. Branching decision trees.

      @@Reflexzzzz Agree. Poker has a lot of hidden information, while chess is a game of perfect information I would say. So yeah, you can't control the outcome of the game in poker as you can in chess. But both game is all about logic thinking and long-term the best players will come out as winners at the end.

      @@RVukovi The true secret are the millions of pokerhands you don't see, "boring" folds, calls, checks, raises, all with one objective in mind, to have an edge over your opponent, minimizing your loses, maximizing your wins, and that against people who also made poker their life. It's easy to just look at compilations where you see the cards and go "i could do that" (until you're in that position for real and the stress gets to you).

      @@mrburns805 I think they're both head and shoulders relative to the competition in their respective sports/games. Daniel is in the top 5 earnings wise in Poker, I think, while Hikaru is a 5 time US Chess champion and highest rated blitz player for a long while now.

    I think once he gets a bit more experience with the standard game, Daniel would really enjoy fog of war chess. As a game of incomplete information it's the most "poker-like" chess variant out there. It even allows you to bluff!

      I think Hikaru meant when you're behind in chips. if you are a short stack your options are very limited. However, Hikaru obviously doesn't understand poker properly yet. I play poker and chess, and every time Hikaru made his poker comments I cringed.

      @@l00d3r I think Hikaru's point was very weak there. In fact that is what makes any game and sport interesting. Seeing someone struggling then coming back on top defeating the opponent is one of the coolest things to witness in any competition.

      @@lukebruce5234 I agree. There are two other things that make poker popular. One is that the participants on TV are playing for thousands, sometimes hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars. It makes for great drama. The second is that poker is easy to learn and understand (though very difficult to master), which is opposed to chess where you have to spend considerable time just to grasp how the knight moves. Beginners have a hard time to understand even the bishop. Many times they cannot see when the bishop snipes along a long diagonal and get check mated.

      He's definitely winner's bracket material. I don't know how much the players will improve but he definitely has more of an edge than the others like MrBeast or Poki just by having that basic opening knowledge.

      I think his tactical vision is not very strong for someone who has played for while. Pokimane already is sharper after a few weeks. He needs to a bunch of puzzles, then he is a contender.

      @@Godspamit The key difference is where they are on their development curve. Right now, of course those guys are favorites against Poki, but you need to understand that she literally just picked it up for a few weeks. If her development continues at this pace, she should shoot past Negreanu who has played for years already and didn't reach higher than his current level.

      @@KaninTuzi But Daniel even said that he got there by himself without any coaching. If he can make enough time and get a few more sessions I think he will do well. He picked up on things quickly. And he spotted things. As long as he is paying attention when playing games he should be fine. Daniel didn't get to where he is without effort(poker) and he is super competitive. I agree poki is doing well for a beginner but fuslie and others were the same way during their coaching sessions only to panic in the real games.

      Yeah hes in between a beginner and intermediate. I think he said he was playing 1100 players so he should be around that range, which is a decent rating for someone that hasnt been playing long.

      @@Godspamit yeah, the amount of work and experience put into the game is too much for most people. You have to enjoy it. I’m around 1850 and I’ve played 10,000’s of hours. You would think a 1100 is low rated but compared to the general public they are masters. In fact the difference between a 600 and a 1100 is literally night and day.

      hmm but the idea of playing the danish gambit is to avoid complex opening theory and just try to go on the offensive, this would probably throw off his opponents who are not at all prepared for this, I feel like this does give him a pretty good edge against the others

      I'm Negreanus level and after this video l tried the Danish last night and it went okay for me. I imagine with Negreanus mental endurance and logical brain he can climb the ratings nearly at will.

      @@seanspawn7805 nah he can't just climb the ratings with logical skill. a lot of chess is pattern recognition which means just having hundreds and hundreds of games under your belt is going to give you an advantage cause it forms a specific mindset. and then study to learn from mistakes. and then playing some more hundred games to learn to not hang your pieces. and then study some more to incorporate basic theory. and then study some more to understand pawn structure, tricks, open lines for rooks and so on and so on. chess is two steps forth and one step back. takes time to get a deep understanding.
      you must build up a certain mindset to get good at chess. i think love of chess is more important than logic.

      Chess skill really scales in regards to the time spent. If Negreanu just started chess it's natural he misses simple moves for now. Sure, you get better by reading and being overall smart, but first and foremost you get better by playing a lot - especially as a beginner. The only thing really preventing obvious blunders or simple moves.

    The only problem with playing gambits against Beginners specifically in “Daily Mode” is everyone has access to the Opening Books so they can see what the correct responses to the particular Gambit are.
    Way better strategy to use them in non daily game modes IMO.
