Daniel: "you gotta understand that everything conveys information, you can't just be all loosey-goosey eating a sandwich. Checkmate"

Instructions unclear, loosey goosey castled with two hands and was disqualified while eating sandwich on the ceiling.

I fully expect him to play something dubious like the Eric Rosen popularized version of Englund Gambit, seemingly hang a piece, offer a draw immidiately and procees to win the opposing queen when they take the "free" knight
“The part where I struggle is when people play correctly” yup same Daniel....same 😔

The problem is that no one matches the pawn in front of the king ever lol that’s why this would never work for me

Me too. I’m way more into poker, but I watch Hikaru almost every night.
Poker and chess have always been interlinked. The skillset required is quite similar. The big difference obviously is that poker has tons of variance and chess has zero variance. But the thought process is pretty similar. Branching decision trees.
@@Reflexzzzz Agree. Poker has a lot of hidden information, while chess is a game of perfect information I would say. So yeah, you can't control the outcome of the game in poker as you can in chess. But both game is all about logic thinking and long-term the best players will come out as winners at the end.

All you have to do is play 500,000 hands over the table
@Loren Magnuson Exactly. His "soul reads" his fanboys see in UA-cam videos are always basic, annoys me seeing the worship he gets. Sure he is a great top player, but his reads are not any better than any other pro's.
@@Mattipatti23 I mean, that's the thing. All the poker players at that level are doing the exact same thing in their heads with a similar degree of accuracy, Negreanu is just known for doing it out loud to psych people out

Kinda sad there’s not more money in chess. Hikaru is better at chess than Daniel is at poker imo. There are way better crushers out there.

Great video! Negreanu is such a good student. He admits when he doesn't know, and he remembers and reiterates what is taught.
this was a really cool chess lesson and with Daniel Negreanu! what a bunch of lads

DNegz is so good at reading his opponents he can premove the whole game. Final result: hikaru beats DNegz using the scholar’s mate
This has to be the best Hikaru tutorial session I have seen. Negreanu's is very interesting and also has a decent beginner understanding of the game.

I'm getting "choker" advertisements a lot recently, you two should team up for that
Everyone gansta until Daniel Negreanu tells you your entire plan.
I think once he gets a bit more experience with the standard game, Daniel would really enjoy fog of war chess. As a game of incomplete information it's the most "poker-like" chess variant out there. It even allows you to bluff!
if it could be played in person, or maybe if he plays with a webcam, Im sure negreanu would be able to see the whole board
I'm so happy this collab happened! I'm a big fan of both you guys. Hopefully this is the first of many DNegs guest appearances.
In Poker you can also win when you're behind. It's called bluffing.
I think Hikaru meant when you're behind in chips. if you are a short stack your options are very limited. However, Hikaru obviously doesn't understand poker properly yet. I play poker and chess, and every time Hikaru made his poker comments I cringed.
@@l00d3r I think Hikaru's point was very weak there. In fact that is what makes any game and sport interesting. Seeing someone struggling then coming back on top defeating the opponent is one of the coolest things to witness in any competition.
@@lukebruce5234 I agree. There are two other things that make poker popular. One is that the participants on TV are playing for thousands, sometimes hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars. It makes for great drama. The second is that poker is easy to learn and understand (though very difficult to master), which is opposed to chess where you have to spend considerable time just to grasp how the knight moves. Beginners have a hard time to understand even the bishop. Many times they cannot see when the bishop snipes along a long diagonal and get check mated.
Negreanu and Hikaru...literal geniuses
3:05 "Of course people don't do this" My go to opening ;-;
this is the crossover i never saw coming
Next video "Hikaru blunders full house"
Folding the winning hand at showdown for chiplead pot deep in WSOP main. Hikaru: "obviously I thought the flush beat my set. Not seeing the pair board and recognize I had a full house was a clear blunder."
“I get in trouble when my opponent plays correctly”. Funny, I have that problem, too...
I could be wrong but Daniel Negreanu might low key be the one to watch this Pogchamps.
He's definitely winner's bracket material. I don't know how much the players will improve but he definitely has more of an edge than the others like MrBeast or Poki just by having that basic opening knowledge.
I think his tactical vision is not very strong for someone who has played for while. Pokimane already is sharper after a few weeks. He needs to a bunch of puzzles, then he is a contender.
@@KaninTuzi You're right but he knows his basic principles. For a player like me a good strategy is equally important.
@@Godspamit The key difference is where they are on their development curve. Right now, of course those guys are favorites against Poki, but you need to understand that she literally just picked it up for a few weeks. If her development continues at this pace, she should shoot past Negreanu who has played for years already and didn't reach higher than his current level.
@@KaninTuzi But Daniel even said that he got there by himself without any coaching. If he can make enough time and get a few more sessions I think he will do well. He picked up on things quickly. And he spotted things. As long as he is paying attention when playing games he should be fine. Daniel didn't get to where he is without effort(poker) and he is super competitive. I agree poki is doing well for a beginner but fuslie and others were the same way during their coaching sessions only to panic in the real games.
One of the coolest crossovers Ive ever seen
I feel like Daniel is starting to see more than one idea at once and it’s gonna go a long way.
Gotta love that one pawn taking 3 pawns back to back.
This dude is not bad. I will say that he's pretty good at spotting good moves.
Yeah hes in between a beginner and intermediate. I think he said he was playing 1100 players so he should be around that range, which is a decent rating for someone that hasnt been playing long.
@@Godspamit yeah, the amount of work and experience put into the game is too much for most people. You have to enjoy it. I’m around 1850 and I’ve played 10,000’s of hours. You would think a 1100 is low rated but compared to the general public they are masters. In fact the difference between a 600 and a 1100 is literally night and day.
I watch both Hikaru and Negreanu regularly on UA-cam. When this video was put, UA-cam was like “dude, dude, DUUUUDE, you gotta watch this!” lol
I have a sense that even though he is catching on pretty quickly, as soon as he is brought out theory he won't be that much better than the other contestants.
hmm but the idea of playing the danish gambit is to avoid complex opening theory and just try to go on the offensive, this would probably throw off his opponents who are not at all prepared for this, I feel like this does give him a pretty good edge against the others
But if you're playing a gambit and know the best moves versus the opponent not used to gambits or traps, it could be a wash
I'm Negreanus level and after this video l tried the Danish last night and it went okay for me. I imagine with Negreanus mental endurance and logical brain he can climb the ratings nearly at will.
@@jamestjw97 I mean in the instance where they just decline it or go on with their system like the pirc or modern.
@@seanspawn7805 nah he can't just climb the ratings with logical skill. a lot of chess is pattern recognition which means just having hundreds and hundreds of games under your belt is going to give you an advantage cause it forms a specific mindset. and then study to learn from mistakes. and then playing some more hundred games to learn to not hang your pieces. and then study some more to incorporate basic theory. and then study some more to understand pawn structure, tricks, open lines for rooks and so on and so on. chess is two steps forth and one step back. takes time to get a deep understanding.
you must build up a certain mindset to get good at chess. i think love of chess is more important than logic.

Chess skill really scales in regards to the time spent. If Negreanu just started chess it's natural he misses simple moves for now.
