Pitching a TV Show: What I Learned

- What's it like to pitch a TV show to the companies behind The Joker, Arrival, and Utopia? Last year I got to do just that, and learned a lot in the process that you could use when pitching your own feature films or TV shows.

Great advice, thank you!
Thanks for watching!
"how to get the experience without the experience" - this statement is so true in so many industries! Networking is key besides the dedication. Hope eventually your'll get your own TV episode and the feature of course! ;-) By the way this video can be the beginning of a new Skillshare class, so good and valuable!
Haha plans for a feature are beginning to enter the pipeline! Hope you're good Ale. I'm currently sat in an airport lounge in Canada, trying to channel my inner Ale vibes to combat the delays/missed connection/security issues. Airports do not like me like they like you 🤣
@@aramatkinson haha some of the best stories take place in airports, so many emotions happening in minutes! 🤪
@@AleSalvino hahahaha yeah, I went through the full spectrum of emotions. Finally hitting the hay 25 hours later! Where are you guys ATM?
@@aramatkinson haha nice! Kris in Belgium and I'm in North Africa 🧭
@@AleSalvino oh man!!! Which country??? Oh you've just reminded me, I have a coconut filled pastry to enjoy today, I'll send you a picture on Instagram, I'm sure Kris will be intereste hahaha
I just would have never have thought about the cost making a period piece. In fact all of what you said makes perfect sense and may seem obvious (now) but only after you explained it. Very good advice. 💕
That's exactly how I felt when I found out lol. Surprised, and then instantly like "well...yeah...obviously".
Very insightful video Aram! And I’m sure you’ll find a way to get one of your projects funded sooner or later! Keep going!
Thanks Emanuele! I think filmmaking is a matter of resilience as much as skill haha.
Thank you very helpful video. I'm actually preparing an idea currently to pitch at the Screen Forever conference in Australia. At what script draft stage is it good enough to pitch?
Depends on the place you are pitching. Some want a full script but usually it's enough to have an outline, but always worth checking! Even if a script gets greenlit they will be wanting to work with you to develop it further so it's never a 'final' draft if you know what I mean!
I wish I could talk to you because I might be going in more blind than I thought. I am a Cnd and going to MEMinc. To sitch I know Scott but very indirectly so wish me luck. Most of it does deal with HGTV
Good luck! Can't say I have much experience with unscripted TV, but I imagine much of the pitching aspects would be the same, focused more on 'access' to the people/world/locations etc. Hope it goes well!
Actually listening to you has helped and I narrowed down the query letter for my particular tv situation. I have one down and 2 more to go. Oddly enough I wrote a children's animation feature and Nigel Lythgoe is about to receive it because a friend pulled a favor. These are interesting times. Again wish me luck. Lol
Doesn't sound like you need luck! Fingers crossed all you will need is a congratulations! Exciting times indeed :D
