Why Sing Street (2016) Works (video essay)

- I adored John Carney's Sing Street, and I also adored La La Land, but today I wanted to explore how the movie keeps an optimistic tone for its message in a world full of cynicism in a lot of coming of age stories.
In this review, we explore how the story structure and the confidence of Sing Street helped it stand amongst award contenders in 2016.

The older brother was one of the most interesting characters I'd seen in any movie in a long time.
I'm really happy to hear this since I am irish and this is in the curriculum and when we had to write about this I often mentioned i thought Brendan was, despite his limited screen time really interesting and it was never reciprocated frfr

as an older brother that had a band as a teen and fell from grace let me tell you. I felt SEEN
Okay but, my friends and I all agree that Eamon should have had more screen time. He's the best! He has rabbits, he plays everything, he has a family situation too, he clearly has his own problems that we wish we could see more of
i think it's great this way. because it shows us everyone is a character on themselves, and that no one is a "secondary character" and all of theme are interesting in themselves in real life
This is such a solid movie. I'm currently trying to start a band, and this movie is nothing but helpful.
Bro this movie got me in a band
Agree with every word of this . Stunning film making. The ending hits so hard when you have a younger brother 😭😭
Great vid man. Love Sing Street so much. Such as joyous, heartwarming, and as you say optimistic and inspirational piece. It always cheers me up!
Unpopular opinion: Sing Street > La La Land. But that’s just me.
I watched sing street last Sunday and it immediately because a special interest
the acting was really good too. great insight mr. dean
thanks so much for this video, I have to study this film for my english exam and I didn't really care for it, but this video definitely made me appreciate it more (which i desperately need because studying something you don't care for IS A PAIN XD). And your analysis of it was really good!
One of my favorite movies!
Adore this movie. Favorite of 2016. 💙
hope this comes in clutch for my tests
Great analysis, though I was kind of missing the 'happy sad' aspect of the movie.
Eefje Poppelaars Conor uses his sadness to make others happy and himself happy through music.
Great video Nolan!
MOVIE MONDAYS thanks man!
very good video thanks for helping
As good as this movie is, I still think ONCE is still John Carney's greatest film.
great video....
jeneus srz cant spell but bro your something else
Il motivo percui questo filmetto adolescenziale, ammetto, all'apparenza autentico, "works" è solo perché i ragazzi,il pubblico/pubico non ha visto "THE COMMITMENTS". THE FILM! Il resto è copiatura
Un es?: lo skinhead incluso ,redento... che pero nel film the Commitments ha ben più spessore rendendo veritiera la storia. E stop!
GUARDATEVI : THE COMMITMENS.
