    Wow that’s some heavy work on the zelcova tree but it will pay dividends over time to make quite a special broom style tree in the future, broom style is not as easy to accomplish as people think but done well they are great styled trees. Look forward to see it develop over time.

    The color is amazing I've never seen one of those before very nice ...I'm working with a black gum tree that in the fall turns a nice bright red color

      I also have a blackgum for bonsai. They have great looking bark as they get older. I dug mine up despite people saying they really don't transplant, but mine survived, though it is only 1.5 inch wide trunk.
      Good luck with yours 👍

    Hello, i am a beginner in bonsai. Thank you for the video. I’ve killed a few trees associated with repotting. Most youtube channel and bonsai care instruction recommend time of repotting in spring, i am seeing you working in Fall/winter. Can you explain more?

    • @bonsaiheirloom
      @bonsaiheirloom  7 місяців тому

      Spring is definitely the best time…that’s why bare root trees are only sold in spring. On the other hand, you can repot at any time of the year if you balance the root loss with a reduction of the branches. I am careful with that and therefore repot any time of the year. :)

    Nice beginning to this tree. What do you have planned for the old cuts? They will probably never heal over as they are and will most likely not improve the looks of the tree. Unless you chisel them out which would look amazing in a few years.

    • @bonsaiheirloom
      @bonsaiheirloom  7 місяців тому

      Looks natural over time, wouldn’t it?

      @@bonsaiheirloom I don’t understand your answer. Hollowed out they would look natural, but as cut off stumps they won’t. Do you have plans for the old cuts?

    Question for you sir- what species would you suggest to work on if my only growing space is part sun to almost shade area? Junipers seem ok so far, my Japanese maples thrive without so much direct light and cotoneaster, but looking for other species to add.

    • @bonsaiheirloom
      @bonsaiheirloom  7 місяців тому

      Most trees can grow in light shade. Japanese maple for sure…Juniper and pine to will do well, but just not as vigorous as with lots of sun and lots of water. Almost all trees in forests start with being in the shade!

    I would like one. When is someday? I have been waiting months. I have been to your website and there is nothing available. Am, I missing something? I emailed you about your scissors and air layering a California Oak, so far no response. Are you open for questions?
