There is nothing better in this world than smelling the smell of a campfire. I wish I could wear a cologne that smells like campfire when my clothes are around the campfire and they take on that scent for me that brings back so many great memories of childhood yes the smell of campfire, there is nothing better
Great hacks. I use almost every single one of them. Been using the collapsible water containers for a few years. Cheap, light and easy. I've owned a Mora for maybe the last 4 or 5 years. It takes a beaaating and still gets the job done. Just upgraded my rain gear last year. Ground sheet and floor mats are a must. As is the way we enter the tent. I use camp flip flops instead of crocs, but same purpose. The flip flops are lighter and crocs dont fit my feet well. I've had a luminaid for about 4 or five years and upgraded that recently as it died on me. Our whole camping group has their own personal luminaid at this point. Great soft lighting for around camp. I even have the exact same headlamp that you used in this video. True story: One time we were car camping and I went out to pee one night without my glasses or headlamp. Got totally turned around and wandered around for what felt like hours, but was probably only 30 minutes. This was a fall trip and the temperature had plummeted overnight. I was thisclose to just yelling for someone to come help me. I got lucky and literally tripped over some bushes and landed into the back of my tent. Iwent out the front to a tree i thought was 15 feet away from the front of my tent and then I ended up behind the tent?! UGH. PLAN. YOUR. ROUTE! Again, fantastic tips that I can definitely recommend to any beginner. Liking and subbing right now.
Omg, sounds like we’re gear buddies! Yes to all of it, over the years I’ve found they’re the best. Also…lol, that story! Haha thanks so much for sharing, this is slowly becoming a comment thread of people who got lost peeing in the middle of the night 💕
For those interested, that is the Mora kansbol- it is a fantastic knife! the marburg is a simillar blade shape but, Sara is correct, Mora is just about indestructable. i also have the Eldris and if anyone is looking for a belt clip for the eldris, nit ize makes the hip clip.you just peel and stick and you are ready to go. Enjoy!!
I have loved cooking on a campfire over the years, whether a simple foil wrapped potato or a steak. But when not needing to cook with it, or needing heat, it's amazing to go fire-free. You might want a light if hanging out when the days are longer. Your LED lantern works great, and I bought a gas lantern after camps in warm climates in February (Death Valley and Joshua Tree). We just had a great summer campfire with a group that stayed up later, but it's been great on longer days to just skip it.
Tent camping is a art form that many people are afraid of. Easy stuff once one dose it. When at home I sleep on the floor with camping gear. It keeps my leg muscles strong.
Yes! When I was living and teaching at a primitive survival school we always encouraged folks to practice the skills in a low key setting before roughin' it and relying on them. Have fun!
Hello Sara, greetings from Northern California. Thank you for sharing this informative video. You did a fine job. Keep up your great work and stay safe out there. 😊
I use a portable urinal. I never have to get out of my hammock to take a leak. Tent campers who have used these said ts the proverbial 'Game Changer'. Getting out of your hammock/tent in the middle of the night is just bad.
I'm a hammocker and always bring a sleeping bag liner. I can if needed, fill it with leaves for a browse bed and hang really low with my backside burrowed in the top. I do this as well as an underquilt just in case. Can also fold it down and put a trash bag inside for water storage. My daughter just completed N and A in July. Not sure when it airs however sometime next year.
Love a good hammock camp! Leaves are a great survival insulation trick. And woohoo for your daughter! Can’t wait to see the new club member in action :)
Lovely different type of videos that I am used too. The Mora with the pink/purple colour off al my daughters have one along with their own fire steel and opinel knife for food prep. Bye the way they are 17, 13 and 11. They all knwo how to make fire shelter and purify water. Only downside is we do not have the wilderness about to test there skills, not allowed in our country. We can't even do a wildcamp, so we use the backgarden and a few not very well known spots to camp outside and practice.
Aww I love that! Opinels are so good, too- I have a tiny one on my keychain :D Your daughters sound amazing, and I’m so glad you’re able to get them out even without proper wilderness. It’s going to give them mental and physical skills for life
definitely love the campfire smell! the blowing at the coals and getting ash everywhere, not so much... if you're into gadgets (look, just because you HAVE been naked and afraid, doesn't mean you have to keep going low-tech) someone just released a pocket bellows! or you could probably use a modified old car antenna. just make sure not to suck any superheated air back through the tube, or you're in for a bad time... I think outdoor element also has their own bellows as well. plus I love their firebiner. big fan of the morakniv (i've got the one with the striker in the pommel!) but i might switch to their feather, as long as I can still baton with it
Oh yeah, I actually like to use my arrow shafts for that too! And totally agree.. just cause I CAN do naked and afraid doesn’t mean I SHOULD always be minimal. I love a good glamping adventure
Another great episode Sara, I feel you on the chronic back pain. Hammocks are my go to but harder to be closer to the fire, i like your chair i want to get one!
Aw thanks! Yeah, hammocks are definitely better for our backs! Depending how big you are, you may wanna get the size up. GREAT Video. Love the tips. Not a fan of the Coleman tent though as the rainfly doesn't provide enough coverage. I prefer a rainfly with a vestibule to store gear from the rain. Mora knives are AWESOME!! I have a few in my camp collection. They're 100% dependable and a great value. I was laughing at the Crocs too. I'd NEVER wear them out in public but have a pair that's ALWAYS with me when camping. They're great for lounging around the campsite and better for those middle of night potty runs. And I'm completely with you on the camp chair. I always have a small, light weight compact chair (Helinox Zero) when hiking or a larger one when car camping. Nothing better than relaxing fireside after a long day in a chair. Keep up the great work!!
