    Thank you so much! I have struggled to understand warm vs cool versions of a color & you've illustrated that wonderfully.

      I'm SO glad to hear that Sherrie! Colour theory is so fun and interesting, but can also be challenging to wrap your head around.

    Turquoise is my favorite color as well. Thank you for showing us how to mix it. I never would have thought to try and mix the color turquoise. I am going to have to play around with this and see what I come up with.

      You're so welcome. I hope you have lots of fun with it Joy. I always find that when you add the yellow and then it turns turquoise... it's like magic!!

    Yay! thank you for posting this 'how to'. I belong to an online art meetup group, and we start each meetup with a warm up. Well, one session we were to make turquoise, and everyone had issues. The key was what you talked about with the difference between blues; wow. We all gave up and just use our store-bought turquoise. Now I know. Brilliant.

    thank you for showing how to get turquoise, i always thought (but never tried) it was done with white, blue and green. that was very helpful. i cant wait to start mixing.

      You're welcome Tara! I think it can be done with white, blue and green too (I checked on my bottle of Golden paint in 'teal', and it lists "Phthalo Blue, Phthalo Green & Titanium White"). With the correct combination of those I think you'll be able to get a truer (and brighter) turquoise but it wouldn't work with just any green. With the cool blue + yellow trick it is possible to get a good result almost every time!

      And they're so nice together too! Or turquoise and orange. Maybe the Americans have it sussed by calling it teal... much easier to spell!

    I guess my blue is warm because I could only get green..... but the woodies worked perfectly. What is a good cool blue in the Amsterdam paints?

    • @iris-impressions-art
      @iris-impressions-art  3 роки тому

      Ahh yes I imagine that was the case!! Good to know for future reference. Glad you were able to get a good result with the Woodys. The blue I used from Amsterdam acrylics was Phthalo Blue 570 (all paint names are in the video description!)

    Can I make teal by adding more white to turquoise or do I have to make the teal color separate

    • @iris-impressions-art
      @iris-impressions-art  2 роки тому +1

      Teal and turquoise tend to be used interchangably as words to describe the same colour. If you have a paint that is labelled turquoise then you don't have to do anything else! But if you'd prefer it to be lighter, then you can simply add white.
