      True, But Tesla has shown that they can build out, better and faster and have reliable equipment.
      They are putting in a 88 stall SC in Quartzsite AZ... on top of the one that is already there. They mass produce the V3 chargers, and they are drop in place.. and wire up ready.

      Comes down to what car you need.. and how much you road trip.
      I do take extensive road trips.. but only once a year or less.
      There are better cars built for my personal needs than Tesla currently offers.. that suit my needs 99.9% of the time. I need a smaller but practical city car with decent range. Chevy Bolt EV or EUV would be perfect for me as far as the car goes.
      So you have to choose.. perfect car.. with crappy road trip experience. Or les perfect car, but perfect road trip experience.

    The section of I-15 y'all were on has interesting geology. To the east of I-15 is the Colorado Plateau. Rock formations in the mountains have an orderly horizontal layering. To the west of I-15 is the Great Basin where the same rock layers look like they were put in a blender. The Great Basin is divided into a northern section, the Nevada Basin, and a southern piece, the Mojave Desert. All three geologic areas converge around St. George, one of your popular charging spots. Mainly because Electrify America carpet bombed with chargers and forgot to keep a team to maintain them. Tesla’s rollout was mor gradual, and they learned charger maintenance challenges early on. I’m sure electrify America will improve over time.

      It's all down to equipment (and maintenance) and not the CCS standard. Most CCS equipment here in the US is junk and is not properly maintained.

    Pretty spot on with how the charging experiences go with non-Tesla EV's. Even with Tesla though (like the one he stopped at in St. George), can be a risk if you don't know like the local secrets of what chargers are faster, etc... Almost every Electrify America we've stopped at there has always been a charging station down or not working. Really frustrating especially if you're low on battery and need to be somewhere. Always plan ahead and leave room for missed charging stations. Great real, raw video! This is what you will experience owning an EV and traveling long distances. Around town, such a breeze. Not the case when you're going on road trips.

    Awesome video. Seems like you guys set this up to be as even a test as possible. Betting odds were always in favor of the Model S because of the sucky EA network. If there were reliable 350kW CCS chargers all the way, it would be much tighter and advantage Taycan over a longer distance. Great fun to see this kind of content. Thanks guys! Hope you had fun in Vegas

    It’s too bad that Green River Supercharger is a V2 site, which means it will not be of any help after the adapters and non-Telsa NACS cars are available. Hopefully Tesla will either upgrade the site or at least decide to add PLC modems to the V2 stations in rural/remote areas so that this craziness doesn’t go on for years to come. Maybe EVGo or the new consortium can step up and build out an actual national network of chargers to add competition to the charging situation

      “Hopefully”.. Well... “Hopefully”, your wish never happens. Because those non Tesla consumers who will sponge on Tesla’s capabilities, will never show appreciation for what Tesla has done, or will do. Nor will take one minute to serious look at Tesla product. Why? Those people ran off the Cliff in non-Tesla hell once he showed some libertarian views. Especially once he bought “Twitter”.

      I’ve driven this trip from Glenwood Springs/Grand Junction CO to Vegas and beyond and Green River has a massive opportunity to be a charging hub like Baker CA (on a smaller scale) and create some amazing opportunities for that small town. Would love to see that.

      Tesla has a ton of V2 sites still along the I-10 corridor (El Paso, TX being the most prominent one). I think they'll just end up building totally new sites at a different site host in the same town.

    @1 hour 29 mins - that’s my zenith red GT that Kyle Connor spotted! Had a brief handshake moment with Kyle: I was so starstruck that I forgot his name. I’m such a dork. Anyway, it is curious that the charging stall Kyle used gave him the best charge session of the day, while that very same charging stall, from which I had just unplugged as Kyle pulled up, gave me my WORST charging session that day. I was driving in the opposite direction, towards Denver CO. On my return trip through UT I made a mental note to avoid the St George-Washington UT EA DCFCs because of my poor experience a week earlier, the day I ran into Kyle.

Comfortable, quiet, and likely very efficient with its great charging, mind you CCS is still the wildcard. By the way my Ionq 5, 20" Fastwheels EV01+ with my Micheline Cross climate 20" 245/45 (my fall and winter tires) fit with a set of WHEEL CONNECT Hub Centric Rings, 67.1 to 64.1 on to my Model Y!!!

    It's amazing how bad the US CCS network is. Here in Europe we have so many different charging providers and stations that non-tesla drivers (including myself) primarily use the Tesla charging stations because they are cheaper, not because they are better. And many Tesla owners use all the other charging providers as well (same connector for all in Europe). The longest I have been waiting for a charger was around 5 minutes, and that was only because I didn't want to drive 10 meters / 30 yards (ish) to another provider whose 4 300KW chargers were all available...

    • @anthonyc8499
      @anthonyc8499 Рік тому +1

      It wasn't unusable for me on my last trip but damn if it wasn't a poor experience. EA stations were down by 1-2 chargers and there were queues at most of them waiting for a unit to free up. Fortunately, there were Starbucks-Volvo CPE250s nearby in a couple of locations along my route, but what working HPC infrastructure there is, is overwhelmed. I really hope Circle K and others deploy hardware soon.
