Just noticed the medal that Meyers gives V is shaped like a pentacle.
I think it is a variation of Medal of Honor design.

I think the cards don't just refer to the other characters, but to V as well. The vengeful side of the King of Swords is V turning against So Mi after learning she was manipulating them, and handing her over to the tender mercies of the NUSA. In the King of Pentacles V is choosing Pragmatism over all other concerns follows the dictates of the powerful and hands So Mi over in spite of her suffering. In the King of Cups V reacts out of emotion and screws up the deal with Meyers to let So Mi die out of sympathy for her after seeing visions of her past. And in the King of Wands V completes the mission to get Songbird to the moon in spite of learning what she did, and in spite of Reed's offer of saving V's life. Principle above all else, and the sacrifice of an opportunity to save V's own life to finish the job and maintain those principles. It's V's sacrifice, not Reeds, embodied in the card.
While I don't deny the cards do refer to the characters near those locations, but I think the meaning of the cards in the endings is wrapped up in which V comes to embody. In the King of Wands both Reed and V embody the archetype, two individuals whose devotion to their ideals and principles lead to one's destruction. And that's why they are appearing in V's mind. Is V someone who will punish manipulation and betrayal? Someone who reacts out of compassion and other emotions? Someone who will follow pragmatism and sacrifice everything to survive? Or someone who will choose principle and sacrifice the chance at saving their own life for that principle. It's all in their head after all, even if information from the chip, and maybe bits of Jackie like in your hypothesis, are interpreting stimuli around V into Tarot archetypes.

Figured as much as well. Cards are indeed tied to the characters you meet near them, but the name of the endings refer to V for the choices you made for he/her.

It's true. Tarot is very much about free will and not about determinism even though it deals with fate. The mystical powers want to see the best story and that only happens if you stay true to yourself. "well" is the word that doesn't really fit. Well is not what you want, but what you need and that might now always be something good.

the mythical forces sure as hell had there fun with me.
i got sick in 2011 and got healthy again around 2015 but through that sickness i got into a new profession in 2016 and even tho i am not very passionat about it,it is better than my old one and i met people that will be with me my whole life. i did not end up in that company because of the job but because of the people!

It might've been the case but the audio quality seems off when recording these new scenes

Every voice actor/ress is slightly different in phantom liberty. Which does make sense. Misty’s is simply much more drastically different
I think what happened is the VA intentionally hid her accent or had a "misty" voice she was specifically using in the earlier sessions l, but either forgot to do it or was directed not to in the newest recording sessions

IMO King of Swords also fits V's personality. "A ruthless opponent who will not rest until you are punished and left to be torn apart by hounds of fate". plus if you look closely the two swords in the tarot card shape the word V. great video Sam love these deep dives of yours into the awesome lore of CP2077.
If you are a Nomad you can convince Reed to leave the Agency and become a nomad but ONLY with the King of Cups ending. It's his best ending by far.
Say what now? I saw that he discussed it with Reed. But he didn't take V seriously and worked for the nusa.
Yeah, in my King of Cups end credits roll he calls me from a sketchy house in Dayton, says he's not talking to anyone, but that he owes V. He stops serving. I think this is why King of Cups and King of Wands is reversed. What Reed really wants is what's best for Songbird, ie escape and meeting the fate he thinks he deserves, and what she really wants is true freedom from her monstrosity, and freedom for her father figure Reed.

Swords is definitely my favorite card design.
Also, not sure when you recorded Misty's lines, but her voice is more in line with her main game voice now. Maybe the most recent update fixed the difference?

Honestly, I found it easy on the harder difficulty settings but I'm also a bit of a shooter fiend. If you're not used to the genre, then use the lower difficulty settings.
All that to say, the game is also easy to break with builds...or make super difficult by messing your build/stats up.
Such a goated UA-camr, you help make searching through the lore of such an amazing game even more fun. I came for the Cyberpunk videos but can't wait to see any Baldur's Gate content you come up with.
Awesome video, excellent analysis. Bravo. The tarot cards seem to have been designed as a cryptic puzzle integral to the storyline, an element of mystery whose significance is never explicitly articulated, leading the player to interpret their meaning and relevance. The somber, haunting, graffiti rendition of each image complements the bleak cyberpunk dystopia of Night City perfectly, aesthetically and stylistically. God I love this game and the intricate, multi-faceted world of Night City - the most thoroughly immersive world building of any game I've played and I've been gaming since 1983.
Man watching these videos make me appreciate how STRONG this expansion started off. I really really wish I could forget it all and just experience the game for the first time again

Thanks for another great video man, I'm going to go rewatch the original video, never hurts to get a refresher. I think the Tarot cards add a lot to the game when you actually sit down and think about them, not something i did on my first playthrough but now every time i see them they bring some aspect of the game to mind, it greatly improves the game experience for me.
Personally, I love the King of Cups card, it just looks great to me. The way the King looks down somehow looks kind of melancholic to me, but it sort of fits the theme of the story.
What if in this game, (like is theorized in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask) the game itself represents the final moments of V's life, and the struggle to accept that V is dead. The whole game does have the 5 stages of grief in them. The second act on is Denial, your spirit not accepting that you are dead and having your brain overridden, coming up with a story to help your soul cling to reality. Anger. There are times in the game that you do get angry, fighting death tooth and nail in order to survive. Bargaining. You make deals with Myers, Arasaka, Songbird to try to live on. Depression. There are parts where you struggle with great sadness, even having an ending where you off yourself. Then are the endings that can be seen as acceptance. Where you leave NC with the nomads, where you try to make an impact so you are remembered forever, or knowing you will die in a few months, giving up your body to Johnny, and allowing you mind to be overridden. This would also explain the Tarot. It's you mind trying to steer you on a path that will get you through those stages, acting as a guide for you, the player, to help V get through the 5 stages. It would also explain some of the weird dialog you have with the S.C.S.M. Brendan. In his dialog depending on which choices you make in the dialog tree he talks about you being dead or dying.

V Actually DIED when shot in the head., maybe the first person in cyberpunk history to actually be brain dead and come back.
The Doll talks about you dying once and being scared of dying again... which also matches this Brendan.
Side Note... The relic down the line could become normal wetware, uploaded with a persons own persona... it means combat wounds to the skull including severe brain trauma and brain death... would be recoverable.

King of Cups was my destiny. No one gets what they wanted, but they get what they deserved. SoMi gets to be free in death, Reed has an ephinany at the cost of his failure, and Myers gets nothing and likes it. V unfortunately doesn't get the cure. Unfortunately poor Alex. 😢

The way I see it, the King of Swords is V. V(the player) has the ability to change the fates of everyone involved. Myers can die simply because V walks away(secret ending). Songbird's fate can go 3 separate ways because of V. Nevermind the swords are positioned as a V.
I always fulfil Song's wish. In any other endings, the humanity is doomed.
Yes! This is one of my favorite aspects of the game
If you go by the more traditional tarot card meanings, Wands are the suit of fire and creativity and ideas, with the ace being the beginning and the King being the final ruler in a sense of that suit. The King of Wands is a bit different than the other cards because he is not about creativity, more on taking leadership and someone else's idea and making it come true. I think this fits with the King of Wands ending because So Mi is being controlled by the AI of the Blackwall and clearly Mr. Blue Eyes wants her on the moon station; she is not the leader in this case. It's her idea to get the cure, but the strings are being pulled by Mr. Blue Eyes and the AI. They are the King
As for the King of Cups, cups are emotion. The King of Cups is stable and calm, and has mastery over his emotions. You see this in So Mi when she asks for mercy in death from you. She's finally understood that there is no survival and death is best for her, so she masters her emotions and thus is the King of Cups.
I believe the cards are a side effect of the biochip and V having 2 consciousnesses inside their head.
No one else can see them, which is exactly how Johnny’s manifestation works. That accounts for the mechanics of them appearing.
As for the premonition angle, I reason it is V and Johnny’s intuition and subconscious working in tandem like distributed computing. Everyone has that little voice in their head. That gut reaction to things and events. You can feel when someone is watching you. V has that two times over.
Just like how V and Johnny work things out together consciously and “verbally”, I have to imagine the same thing is happening in the background subconsciously. The two brains are reacting and working over the greater meaning, just like how you can have symbolic dreams about things happening in your life.

They put so much work into this game… I’ve never played a game with so much in it… I’ve played 4 profiles and over 600 hrs and still can’t stop playing it.

Sounds about right, I saw the same warning of character flaws as I played through, and saw a few of the betrayals coming. Reed was blind, Myers a sociopath, and Song was fatally reckless. Alex was underdeveloped, even if she manages to survive the mission.
The King of Swords is the one that doesn't fit. Yes I agree that Alex, given the placement of the King of Swords, seems to be the one its indicating but I'd like to posit that the King of Swords also presages the coming of Hansen, the fourth player in So Mi's tragi-comedy play. In the Phantom Liberty Song clip the four people surrounding V are So Mi, Reed, Myers and Hansen (Alex doesn't appear). Four people, four endings and four cards. And Hansen also fits both aspects of the King of Swords (and in reverse aspect far more than Alex).
I do like the tarot although I still scratch my head over some of the placements - The Sun and Chariot locations still makes no sense to me.

I think so as well (for the same reasons). In addition:
1. in the "King of Swords" card description we have "(...) to be torn apart by hounds of fate" and the symbol of Hansen's organisation is a hound.
2. The caster cards have two types (looking at their attributes and appearance): priest and warrior. The priest type (spiritual influence) are: Myers, Songbird at the same and the warrior type (military influence) are: Reed and ... Hansen fits here better as a "natural" soldier than Alex who would like to be an actress.
3. V finds this card leaving the bar through the back exit, after planning action against Hansen and just before meeting him (unless V is distracted by another mission 😉).
I think Swords is Reed, Myers is Wands, and Hansen's the King of Pentacles.
The King of Pentacles describes a man of business. Hansen, despite his military get-up, runs BARGHEST and Dogtown like it's a corporation. He controls the heart of the black market, with illegal goods coming in and out of the Dogtown Stadium and parties with the elites he claims to be against in his propaganda. The King of Pentacles can be fair, but also greedy. Hansen is honestly the most fair of the 4, and despite being the bad guy, isn't really all that terrible compared to Myers or Saburo, or most of the other antagonist in Night City. Despite that, he is still a supplier of drugs and weapons to anyone willing to pay for the right price.
Myers fits the King of Wands, as the card is about seeing the big picture. Leadership skills and taking bold actions. But they can also be vicious and tyrannical. All this fits Myers, as she does demonstrate to be a naturalborn leader and also abuses her power behind the scenes to pursue her agendas.
Peronsally, I think it’s at least not very hard to make that the cards do in fact predict the future of the plot, or rather possible outcomes, depending on your choices. Nonetheless I think they’re extremely cool and I love watching videos about them 😊

Hmmm... 4 cards, 4 characters... like in phantom liberty music video. Exactly like in the scene where we can see V standings between four figures, seemingly being torn apart between choosing who to trust/help. I'm big fan of the music video and whole story shown in it. You can clearly see what's going on and who's going to treat you like a pawn.
I always suspected the Tarot cards and Zen Master were linked in some manner.
I think King of Swords fits perfectly for Kurt Hansen.

The King of Pentacles ending is basically the Monkey Paw dialled up to 11.
Hey Sam just realized for some reason i was not subscribed(fixed that issue). but any way i had an idea i would love to see you try out. What's the earliest you can get a build online pre heist with one build per OS. Basically how strong a build can you put together pre heist doing the minimum amount of side jobs/activity's for each OS. Because i know i still struggle with early game and the heist at times, but i dont like the skip cause they do jackie dirty.
At first, I also thought that each card told us about what the 4 DLC characters will do but then it still doesn't fit much. Then I realized maybe it's actually telling us about HOW we'll make decisions as V in this DLC:
- King of Cups: "emotionally driven, put the importance of feelings ahead" - V in this ending empathizes with So Mi. Seeing she won't have any freedom if she returns to NUS, and no longer be herself since Black Wall consumes almost all of her, V chose to grant her wish and end her suffering. So Mi died, Alex died, Reed lost So Mi, Alex, his ideals, and his higher-ups' trust, Myers wasn't satisfied with V's actions, and V didn't get any cure. So logically, everyone lost. But emotionally, V did the right thing at that moment for So Mi. Also, Reed trusted V to save So Mi but V ended her life -> "when at odds with fate, unwise to trust this person".
- King of Pentacles: "enterprise, pragmatism, coldness, attachment to material possessions" - V didn't go with So Mi's plan to escape nor end her suffering even though seeing her future will only be "a fate worse than death", gave So Mi to Myers, all just to get the cure for himself.
- King of Wands: "unorthodox ideas", "fresh opportunities, discarding of old patterns", "grand vision" - V got So Mi to the moon even though she lied to V, even if he had to become the enemy of NUS, Myers, Reed. I think what's important here to V is So Mi's freedom, not anything else. "Impulsive, devastating force of nature", "ruthless action", "shortcuts taken" - yeah V basically slaughtered a bunch of NUS's black ops on the way just to get 1 bird on the shuttle. "Capable of breaking oaths and crossing any line, just to see their goals achieved", "demand a sacrifice ..." - V betrayed Reed, and at the end had to kill Reed just to get So Mi to the moon.
- King of Swords: "precise moral compass", "caring demeanor", "logic, rational" - V saw that a future life without freedom of So Mi isn't what's right, so he decided to help her, but V also helps because he needs a cure. So when found out So Mi lied and there was only 1 shot for the cure, V traded her for the cure since that made more sense than making NUS his enemy, and helping a bird he just met just to get nothing in return. Also, the results are pretty "good" overall: Alex got her retirement, Reed's mission succeeded and got to keep So Mi alive with his ideals intact, Myers got her precious netrunner back, and V got a cure. Only So Mi lost, but the rest won, since the net result is what's important here if V is rational.
The cards are probably more about what kind of person V will become after PL, more than just descriptions of DLC's characters. CDPR adds them there to announce to us what kind of decisions we can make before reaching the end of PL. Also, all 4 cards are King cards. King is someone who leads, who makes decisions and I think it's implying that the King here is V because, after all, V is the main character here and the one who makes decisions to drive the story.

Honestly I trusted songbird all the way through to the end. On my first play through. I saw someone trapped and asking for help. And even when she betrayed me I couldn’t even blame her. We were just some merk off the street who might just sell her out for a few eddies once we found out the truth. I would 100 make the same choice again in real life. At lest someone got saved in the 6 months I lived
WHAT?! The moon is magenta during the FF06B5 quest (23:40)! We have a tarot card of The Moon: "The Moon reminds us that reality is not always what is seems at first glance. In a world of appearances and illusions, the best course is often charted by one's own intuition."

There is a dialogue option when talking to misty about how v remembers jackie asking for help picking the tarot deck for her. Could the theory of echo jackie be using the images from the deck? He was dying with the chip installed so he could have started using it before he removes it and gives it to v
For king of cups, I'd argue that the non-reverse also applies to V in that the only way to get that ending is through compassion

The crossed swords also create the letter "V".
I would say that the King of Pentacles indeed turns our world upside down - it unlocks the ending where V losses their cyberware and becomes a "common" person, complete opposite of what they were.
What I love about cyberpunk is there doesn't seem to be any definitive "bad ending" all of them are varying levels of moral grey.
I chose to send Song to the moon, as my V is a nomad that values freedom and wouldn't want to put their wants over someone elses freedoms, but even that ending isn't a good ending, as reed dies and Song likely becomes just another puppet, but for the blue eyed men.
And my favourite minor tarot is the king of cups, love design.
I don't know anything about tarot. But the dude with the western feel I instantly knew it was v. But it's location I don't correlate v with. V becomes a lone rider.
Reed and Takemura are literally the same kind of people. They both serve a "master" and are loyal to a fault regardless of what you do. These people will betray you in the end and does not care for your well being.

Reed warns you about her and is always honest with you all the way through. There is no reason to trust Song after you go over the details with Reed and Alex. I find it quite astounding that people like Song so much lol. I guess she's le cute woman.

The Tarot Cards are one of my favorite parts of Cyberpunk 2077. I hope they bring them back for the next game in some format. Doesn't have to be graffiti, but in some way.

idk, a lot of it is open for interpretation
The meaning is just the devs giving us "more" to think about in an indirect way. Them being vague is part of the plan and a way to make you speculate and enforce the themes the devs wanna convey. Imo they are in no way tied to ingame lore and vague enough on the other hand to leave the devs with enough leeway to retconn lore in later.
In terms of why its Tarot cards, Remember that you helped jackie pick the tarot cards that you see and misty uses. Tarot cards are meant to be highly personal and spiritual, and so perhaps the reason why its tarot cards is because the spiritual connections between you, Jackie and Misty is the reason why its appearing this way. Do remember that a subtle theme throughout the game is the death of spirituality and humanity with the progress of technology. I mean, think about all the Zen masters quest being about trying to get closer to the natural world, the Oh brother mission, the ripper docs who refuse implants, Morgan Blackhand, etc. Perhaps it took 3 people with a lot of spirituality and emothional turmoil in their lives to achieve anything close to spiritual enlightenment.

Is it just me, or does Misty's expansion dialogue sound more like she's from New York City than in the base game?
Anyone else thing chapi an cyberpunk could be in the same world arasaka puts vee in a faceless expressionless body but little do they know a fraction of johnnys left and instead of cyberpunk two protaganist v we have a culd like tech cult started by a damaged atagonist vee whos nothing but bitter from the wasted past, v would make n amazing atagonist turn around story
Regarding Misty, I am still convinced she's not hum. Whether an curious about humans embodied AI with data analysis abilities to simulate precognition of an actual supernatural being - which are semi-canon in the tabletop game - I think there's more than meets the eye here.
I think Reed definitely knows the wrongs the organization and government did. He just keeps going for what he thinks is the greater good, he doesn't just blindly follow orders. And I agree, tbh. Like Johnny said, "poor bastard died for what he believed in" (or something like that).
Ok, for the Reed part, at what point does Reed ambush you when you get off the elevator???

Edit: it is not johnny that is showing you those images, but something that connected itself to the relic not unlike songbird, problaby the same thing that let that monk know all about you. Whyever it reaches out to you from beyond the black wall and why does it wants to help (again, the monk was pretty benevolent to v), no idea. But yeah, misty knows it, she has the purple balls statue that is connected to you know what, same as the monks. Theres more to it, defnitely.
Seen from a mile away that the president wasnt going to help me, the moment reid went on about how he was left behind already decided to not count on er (sure, so far reid could be making a scene for me still but it turned out to be what hapend, and then blondie just asks for more anyhow, just fuck'er). turns out theres no good ending from this, the only minimaly decent thing to do is help someone out of that cicle, reid also needed help after all, same way with takemura saying v was a bitter pill, but if i remember correctly, he only figures it out once you and songbird are both truly and royaly boned, so there is not a lot i can get done there.
TLDR: save songmi and charge arasaka with your chromed out heavy-duty balls and a gleeful disregard for all that will never be.
Having played through every single ending, when it comes to So Mi, she’ll never be free. If you side _with_ her, you don’t know what happens to her. The text-message afterwards could have been sent by mister Blue Eyes. She could end up as a tool losing the rest of her psyche similarly if she’s returned to Myers. So, she’ll a) end up a tool having her psyche stripped, or b) ending her life, thus freeing her from Hell.

Honestly, reversal readings are a Hollywood thing. No matter if the card lands it stands for both it’s meanings. It’s just a visual gimmick for TV and movies to explain this truth of the cards. Any reader worth their salt will heed all aspects of the Tarot no matter how the cards fall.
There's a msg on the laptop in the boiler room of the bar (where we plan the missions) that hints towards the fact that Alex is in on Songbird's plan all along. Honestly at this point I suspect that Alex didn't really die during betray Songbird choice considering she was in on it, and she's, well, a very good actress. A death scene can be one of their greatest performance.
Tangent aside, the point is, hiding the truth can also be she hiding the fact that she's in on Somi's plan all along.
Damn, I knew it! Songbird's ending is the one in which she dies, not the one that people simp about...
And I am also starting to believe that the the helpful AI and tarot grafitti crator is actually the AI engram of Alt Cunningham (maybe with some help from Spider Murphy and whatever digitised humanity was left from Rache Bartmos). She has ties to Silverhand and it also seems she is on the side of humans, even despite her own words of being an AI and not Alt...
And that would also mean she is a separate entity from both the clusterfuck of eldrich horrors that are Isolated Alien-like Predatory R.A.B.I.D. AIs from beyond Blackwall and from the the manipulative world-dominating influencer that is Mr. Blue Eyes.
And I'd love to see some three-side conflict between Alt's digital ghosts of humanity, influential puppets of Mr. Blue Eyes and the monstrous hive mind of R.A.B.I.D.S.-mutated AIs, one that seems to spill into a fifth corporate war centered once again around Night City in Orion...

It's really adorable watching Westerners who never once looked into Tarot and its traditions stumbling across it in Cyberpunk for the first time. Tarot cards were basically big, bold, "PLEASE DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE SUBTEXT!?" posters. For me, it felt super forced. I could guess which cards were where merely based on which NPC was nearby.
King of Cups Ending: V ruins the job at the last minute because of his/her sympathy for Songbird.
Foil: Songbird
King of Pentacles: V obtains wealth, power, and status even though (s)he knowingly condemns Songbird to a fate worse than death.
Foil: Myers
King of Wands: V risks his/her life for Songbird, an unsympathetic and undeserving woman, and receives nothing in return.
Foil: Reed (Interestingly, fans of this ending use mental gymnastics to convince themselves of the superiority of this ending, just like how Reed lies to himself in order to justify his continued loyalty to the NUSA (and Songbird) despite their neglect and betrayal.)
King of Swords: V initially helps Songbird out of pity, yet swiftly punishes Songbird once (s)he learns of her betrayal. In other words, V is vindictive.
Foil: Hansen
Also, Hansen is the King of Swords. He's a sharp, intelligent leader who's loved by his men and hated by his enemies. He also leads an army of "hounds".
