I had an MD at work literally get angry because during my new hire physical at age 50 (I'm now 54) she found out I took zero medications! She insisted that all 50 year olds needed drugs. WTF?! Ummm...no. I'm a thin long term vegan with low blood pressure and cholesterol.

I had a Dr. prescribe drugs. I acted like he was helping me and thanked him. I never filled the prescription. I went back to the Dr for a checkup, told him I was taking my meds. He told me I was doing much better and to keep up the good work. I told him I lied and never took the meds. The look on his face was priceless.

This really resonated with me. So I left Western Medicine 5 years ago and went to alternative medicines. I've always been a small-boned woman and they insisted I LOST bone mass --- when they never did a bone density scan before! This is the way I've always been but they were comparing me to a woman who naturally had larger bones. The MD told me I had NO CHOICE and had to be on Fosamax. I walked out and never went back. That was 15 years ago.

Well here in the UK we have this National Health Service , which is really a National Sickness service , that even in ' normal ' times is close to being overwhelmed . People might note that despite the NHS we have done badly per capita in terms of covid related deaths . Life expectancy is about 80 ( unless you are born poor and remain poor when it is about 70 ) but healthy life expectancy is about 60 . Sadly it took a TV chef Jamie Oliver to campaign for better childhood nutrition .

That's because years ago pharma (now big pharma), healthcare (now modern medicine) and education (an indoctrination program) was taken over by john d. rockefeller and it became money making & enslaving industries. He made sure holistic treatments (original healthcare and natural medicine) was ridiculed and demonized.
He once even was a snake oil salesman.

As a pharmacist for 40 years, I see there are more defined diseases, more drugs treatments for more defined medical conditions. Drug benefits are studied and promoted much more than bad side effects. The bottom line is to have a healthy lifestyle to delay/ prevent diseases by practicing 3 things: eat healthy, have plenty of physical activity, and mental relaxation. Cheers.

When you are prescribed any medicin, always look up the nnt (number needed to treat). Preferably only use medication with low nnt numbers, especially if there are serious side effects. Medication against bone fractures only has a reason able to good nnt in case you had a fracture before, and then especially if it regards vertebral issues.

One thing they never mention are the many side effects of the drugs they prescribe. I started having hallucinations in the middle of the night recently. I had to research and found out that the anti-depressant Amitriptyline I was prescribed several years ago for my fibromyalgia was causing them. As soon as I quit taking them, the hallucinations stopped along with other side effects I had not realized were being caused by the drug. I also take the muscle relaxer, Tizanidine for the fibro. I'm not sure I want to continue taking that since it has some not too pleasant side effects as well.

I am disgusted. Mom was a vibrant active woman, living on her own. She walked vigorously 3 miles everyday. She had a social life and was an avid book reader. She took a bone density scan and was given the results. Unbeknownst to me and my siblings she agreed to receive the injections to treat her bone density. Within a month she was bent over, swollen feet and now is basically a shut in. There was NOTHING wrong with her, there was no reason to inject her with a chemical to treat a nonexistent bone density issue.

My Endo was not happy that I stopped taking Levothyroxine, 2 months ago, because it was causing side effects (excess daytime sweating, night sweats, and mid-day drowsiness). These side effects, literally, stopped when I stopped taking Levo. My TPO antibodies have dropped from 400 to 60 in the last 4 years, after I took out my IUD. I was told that the IUD didn't cause the Hashimoto's, but that is the only thing I eliminated out of my body. Only other medication I take is for insomnia due to PTSD from the military and I'm not vegan. I have no high cholesterol, blood pressure is around 95-100. I take an iodine supplement, because I don't eat shellfish.

After years of this I was exhausted staying that thin and accepted myself as is. Now 45 going full circle brainwashed into Paleo for a few years I’m back full plant based vegan as it’s my default naturally.
Ive done a lot of sport and extreme things over my years and NEVER broken a bone in my body and about 10 years ago read somewhere about the body density test being BS and never got retested after gaining back to a healthy weight. I feel as Good if not better as I did when I was 20 !

Despite repeated attempts by me and my sister to ween her away from him, my Mum insisted on worshiping a Doctor who prescribed every imaginable Drug and test for her many conditions.
She blindly took everything he prescribed for years until her body couldn't take any more...she eventually couldn't even sit on the toilet without losing her balance.
When she finally collapsed and was taken to hospital the admitting Junior Doctor almost fell over when he was presented with the list of Medications she was consuming.
He called his superior who immediately asked for details of her General Practitioner to question him about his killer list.
She was taken off most of the dangerous [some extraneous] medications but the damage had been done....and she died a few months later.
Lessons to be learned: Doctors are not God, not all Doctors are looking out for your best interests and some Doctors could be swayed by Pharma Reps offering a variety of gifts and perks.

She lived a couple more years anyway. I know what you mean by worshiping doctors. She was still quoting her previous doctors recommendations. He was dead! And her next doctor I had to call and tell him she had dementia. She could hold it together for the few minutes he saw her.

During pregnancy, a woman loses bone mass because the fetus absorbs calcium and other minerals as it develops in the womb. This is why during that time she should take supplements like calcium, overnight, because that is the time she will lose the most bone material, and it is the time the body will automatically absorb the calcium, etc. it needs.

@VegSource: can you please clarify what he said about acid? Dr. Esselstyn and Dr. Greger suggest to eat balsamico vinegar every day. It has 6% acid. So should we use vinegar and lemon juice or avoid it?

It's true for medicine, chiropractors and dentists. They have become for big profit businesses and not for the patients. Like we now know of education, it's not for the kids, but for providing incomes for teachers and the administrators.
