The kingfishers are doing really well this year. The last few winters have been very warm, so many survived. But the possibilities are very unique indeed!
I was looking forward to this very much when I saw your instagram post Jeroen. This is ace. I was wa5ching someone else plan where the King fisher dives. I think she said its educated guesswork and sometimes you will get it right. You obviously maximise it with different camera angles/lens angles. But that's hard doing it as one man. Patience and many days. That's the BBC method. You have patience, time and the knowledge. Cracking shots.
Yeah, that is what I am trying right now also with the slow motion video. I see the bird sitting and looking at a certain area in the water, and then I adjust the camera for that... Both by pointing and focus. The thing with video is, I can just leave it running.... But photo's need to be triggered somehow. I do not think I can press shutter when it dives, I will probably be too late.... Have to do more experimentation :D They are not sitting on eggs yet. When they have chicks they will need to go out fishing a lot more ... :)
@@weylintracking-worldwide You might get some tips here Jeroen ua-cam.com/video/Zmb_JL6uxx0/v-deo.html I can't seem to find the one I watched the other day. Perhaps I just dreamt it. Anyway, I watched this on a Pc without sound while I was fixing my editing Pc. So, He shot wide. He sort of dictated where the bird would dive, so he had 2 branches like you do, and near the water - but of course, you can't dictate the fish with be there. But my thoughts are shoot 4K and you have plenty of room to crop, if you are editing in 1080P. I'm not sure what you edit it. I think this guy has plenty of footage, but he missed some nice editing tricks really, which slightly dumb down the video. Having said that, it's nice to see the raw footage to know how he did everything. As I said, I didn't hear the video, just glanced at it. You have the advantage on the birds, they have to fish and as you said, even more when the young ones come. I did wood pigeons from eggs to fledglings all on video (I think Standard definition) filming every day. Also a thrush (lost that footage I think). It would be good if you can manage them leaving the nest. I see your subscribers starting to climb quicker now. Ramping up. 631 subscribers. Be good to include that in your description as you upload.
Awesome video and some lovely shots Jeroen, you owe your friend a few drinks now. I have had some luck myself with Kingfishers, but really envy you your personal spot. Well done
Thanks Mark! I am open for idea's on what to do with them :D Slow motion video and high speed photography are two I will definitely going to work on...
Some great captures there. The kingfishers are also around our place now (in Japan). I have seen a couple in flights but have not had the chance to photograph them yet. Thank you for sharing your pictures, it is always a good moment spent watching your videos.
Brilliant I will look forward to following your kingfisher project. My favourite bird without doubt. It is a challenge to capture images of them diving for fish particularly when you also capture the birds reflection as it hits the water. Looks like a great location and I look forward to seeing and enjoying your results.
Thanks for the tip about the water Abel! Right now the breeding started, so I am going to stay away for a short while from the site, but will return later :) I have the A7M3, and 200600, and 70200 2.8 which I often use with the 1.4x teleconverter :)
Hi Jeroen, just found your channel and Subscribed. Really awesome stuff and the pictures are superb! Who doesn't love a Kingfisher, those colours are so beautiful. I am focusing on Kingfishers for my next project , fingers crossed I get as much luck as you! Keep up the great work. I've a UA-cam channel also on Wildlife Photography, you happy for me to put you on my featured channel? Regards Richard
Jeroen Kloppenburg - Wildlife Photography Many thanks for Subscribing, didn’t know you were as it doesn’t always show:-) Your doing very well indeed for an early channel, no probs I’ll add you on my front page👍! All helps, regards Richard.
@@weylintracking-worldwide there were some local hornbill who used to visit a tree just behind my house. 6 of them. 3 pairs but something happened and they did not come this year. Hunters I am guessing. I hate hunters
Hi Jeroen - I came here from your post on FB. Watching you in your hide reminds me of me :D I have taken a lot of KF pictures - some are on my flickr - www.flickr.com/photos/rods-kingies/ As you say, its all about the perches and light. I have two pairs to watch once I get out of the house. Both pairs are incubating now till the end of the month so the KF traffic will be light as they only change brooding shifts every couple of hours. Last year I was in place to see two broods fledge - a real privilege although it was early and dark. Speak to you on FB. Rod
Awesome shots Rod! They are breeding here now too, so I leave them alone for some time. When full action starts to feed the chicks I hope to get some fishing action! But first, I have editing to do on a vlog about slow motion video with them... :)
The second episode is now also available! ua-cam.com/video/AfzgUM8-tp4/v-deo.html
Tof man! Zit er aan te denken ook zo'n plek te maken. Ik volg het dus graag.
Het blijven prachtige vogeltjes :)
Lovely shots Jeroen as usual.... you are very lucky to get out and see the KF.... I can’t wait to get back out there! 😎👍😎

I had many shots at the kingfisher! All with crappy point and shoot cameras BUT from the comfort of a hammock 😁

I agree, wish that was my garden!

Thanks Peri!
Wow
Fantastic. I never knew they bobbed their head up and down
Beautiful shots!
Jim
Oh yeah they do that a lot... Maybe to help estimate distance?
Very nice photos and video of Kingfishers. I would love to get a good picture of one in flight - very difficult but I think it is worth trying.
Oh... Hmmm... Something to think about.... :D
Thanks Martin!

Some people have no respect for nature...
Make yourself a sign with No Fishing on it and put that out in the pond, always a classic shot with the bird on it.
Haha yes indeed :D

Yes it is! And I can set it up in seconds... There are many options available, it makes photographing wildlife so much easier :)
