Well deserved, Jimmy! I think the weapons album single handledly took me out of secular music completely -- knowing there was a true alternative you the garbage I was eating prior to that. My bro in high school, the guy next to him let him borrow the album, as well as an intense connection cassette. Stryper helped...but you guys pushed me over the edge. 🙏☝️🤯🎸🎶
Bro I was 13 years old when Weapons of Our Warfare came out! I’m a preacher’s kid and to listen to metal I was introduced to you guys so I could rock as a Christian. I saw you guys in Tulsa with a bunch of metal groups Novella was there and it was really cool.
Forget the fact they define as Christian... How good are their speed metal powers?! So awesome. Jimmy and George smashing it since the 90s. My favourite speed metal band.
I’ve been a fan of Deliverance since the early 90’s and this was the first track I heard of theirs on a sampler. I was blown away by their early work and have really enjoyed their progression through the years.
i was lucky enough to see them back in their hay-day ................. they ripped my head off !! was a small gig so i got to stand right in front of them the whole show ............. never forgot them and ran out and bought a bunch of their albums ............ back then i was into secular heavyness .......... i listened to anything hard .............. and they were in my top 5 favorites ........... cannot get enough of these guys !!
I’m from Australia and grew up in the 90’s with deliverance, tourniquet, mortification etc in my walkman. Weapons of our warfare was definitely my favourite. My friends couldn’t deal with the speed but I couldn’t get enough.
Shane! If you want more "high quality" Christian Thrash metal to review, check out Believer "Extraction from Mortality". These guys were top of the mark in the thrash community in the late 80's. Very solid albums and highly talented. Great "reaction" on this one too!!!
Also highly....HIGHLY recommend "Wishing Well" by Theocracy. There are some nice galloping guitars in that piece...which is a more modernized metal/thrash. \m/
Fun fact: James P Brown, the guitarist and vocalist, dated James Hetfield's sister for a brief bit. Even met James before they broke out, and had a signed album by him.
I must say that Deliverance's debut album had their best song, and I believe the greatest thrash song of all time from ANY BAND: If You Will ! Sickest thrash groove ever!!! (Great message too)
I was hear about Deliverance (Jimmy P. Brown) in 2005 , and i was buy one cd , amazing music , Best regards from Guatemala , Great Video Shane Diablo 🎸
I have been collecting Christian Metal since 1987. I have close to 12k mp3s I converted my cassette collection to mp3s. Holy Soldier has Steven Patrick on vocals which are killer.
I was attending a full gospel church in Southern California called the Eagles Nest, they were a warfare church. Moved in the gifts of healing, casting out demons. I came to learn about all the heavy metal Christian music as it really excelled my walk in Christ through the Holy Spirit
Hey, bro! I used to go to church with these guys in the late 80's/early 90's, and they played in front of the church as a mini concert. It was awesome! The bassist for Barren Cross was out Associate Pastor, and many of the guys in the bands you mention here also went to the same church.
I saw this band in 1984 rehearsing in Bellflower in their garage. They were trying out a guitar player with a Blue Oyster Cult cross tattoo on his arm and the singer didn’t like that. We happen to walk by as we heard the band jamming and we asked to come in and hang out. Really nice people
Shane just letting you know Deliverance has a video for Weapons of our warfare if you want to check it out. guitarist is George Ochoa and lead singer is Jimmy Brown III
man, i grew up listening to these guys. Set the tone for my musical taste for years to come. Have you checked out The Crucified? Oh man... now we're talking!!!
Deliverance made a lot of waves with their first 2 releases. After they released What A Joke, fans stopped taking them seriously because that album was basically just them goofing around. The title track and a metal version of Silent Night are the highlights for me. They also re-recorded a song called Attack, previously only available on a compilation called California Metal. But most fans came back into the fold after the release of Stay of Execution in 1992 and Learn in 1993. Stay was a back-to-basics album and together with Learn, mirrored Metallica's Black Album in style and performance. River Disturbance wasn't great but had a couple ripping tunes on it, most notably the opening track, Belltown. Camelot in Smithereens, released in 1995, was terrible IMO. Grunge basically killed any metal band, especially in the Christian realm where they have difficulty getting an audience anyway. So groups like Deliverance, Whitecross, and Holy Soldier were scrambling trying to stay relative. But I always say do what got you there. You're not going to gain fans by playing a different style and you'll lose the ones you have if you do. Camelot was very David Bowie - inspired. I am not a fan of Bowie but if you like that European pop-rock/new wave stuff, you may dig Camelot in Smithereens. Deliverance basically stopped playing until the 2000's and has since released several albums on 3 Frogz. The band have tried to capture the magic of their early sound on these latest recordings and has had limited success in doing so. There are a handful of songs from Assimilation, As Above - So Below, Hear What I Say, and The Subversive Kind (all released in the 2000's) that are decent but the majority of the tracks on those albums are misses for me. The debut album, Weapons, Stay, and Learn more than stamped Deliverance's mark on Christian metal so for that, they are generally considered near the top for most fans of the genre.
What a Joke was a forced album by the record company. Still, it has some of it's bright spots. But this is what happens when Record companies force a band to put out something they are not ready to put out. The landscape is littered with lackluster and forced albums.
@@damiien2684 I think I may be the only fan who actually loves What a Joke. I love the more serious stuff too, but maybe it's my own sarcastic, comedic nature that made me fall in love with What a Joke.
@@benjaminkeebler4218 I liked it as well, it did not bother me that they messed around on the album some, I thought they wanted to do something that was funny on purpose, instead after learning that the record label forced them to do another album it makes a lot of sense.
If you like King Diamond Shane gotta check out Tourniquet’s Ark Of Suffering. Mortification is from Australia and yes they are a Christian band (more death metalish)
Parabéns pelo trabalho Shane! Magnífico, excelente e brilhante obra..... Perfeito todos os trabalhos dessa bandassassa! Um abraço do Brasil! Graça e paz!
their last 2 albums, Hear What I Say, which came out in 2013 is a great album and their latest release, The Subversive Kind, which came out in 2018 is very good as well
Love the early years up to Learn and the last few. I talked to Jimmy P Brown on FB once not too long ago and he's great chatting with. Glad he still can pull off the thrashy stuff despite no high vocals.
My first ever metal show was Deliverance sometime in 92. I was 11, and my mom was getting into christian metal so naturally I was also getting into christian metal. That show was outdoors, but under a large metal canopy. A place you'd have a livestock show in, so it was all dirt everywhere. I will always remember the dust cloud from the circle pit, not to mention that that was my first ever observed circle pit. What a fucking thing to see as a kid. I was hooked. My mom and I had been listening to Deliverance and Tourniquet a bit prior, so the hook was already set, but that show reeled me in the rest of the way. That show also gave me a couple of now long time favorite christian metal albums through a sampler that someone handed to us. That sampler had a song each from Circle of Dust and Branchild. My mom soon bought the 1992 releases of Circle of Dust - s/t and Brainchild - Mindwarp, and my love of electronics mixed with metal was born. Both albums would later be re-released in 1994 with various changes. I'm not as much of a fan of these since I'm so used to the originals, but they are still pretty great. Anyway, first 5 Deliverance, first 3 Tourniquet, first Vengeance Rising album and a Believer track from a comp was my intro to thrash (and heavy, speed, death/thrash and other). Mortification and Living Sacrifice (Nonexistent era) got me into death metal, also from comp tracks. Circle of Dust, Brainchild and Under Midnight were my intro to industrial metal and electronic music. Christian metal got me into metal, and I still revisit all of those albums fairly often, along with others and all of my sinful records that I also own as well. Thank god for dark and evil sounding music! Anyway, some songs you might check out: Cranial Tyrant by Brainchild (Circle of Dust), Dissolved by Circle of Dust, Misanthrope by Argyle Park, Downside by Klank and The Battle of Armageddon by Incubus. There are so many more I could mention, and I didn't even bring up the xtian metalcore. This is probably long enough. Thanks for reviewing some shit I like! Take care!

Deliverance was one of the best Christian Metal bands! Their self titled album was great! Weapons of Our Warfare and What a Joke were really good, too!

As a young kid I really loved metal. By the late 80's I started getting into Christian Metal as I was just starving for more metal. I came across a compilation album called California Metal. Has some great bands on it...Barren Cross, Guardian, Neon Cross, Mastedon. Well I'm jamming through the album digging what I'm hearing the first Deliverance song on the album comes on A Space Called You and I'm like yeah that's a good song nothing special. But then Attack comes on and I sat up pumped my fist in the air and was like a Thrash Christian Band...Could it really be?!? I did manage to get their demo Greeting of Death. Ask Jimmy about why it's not called Greetings of Death. And there you go a life long fan. I even back Jimmy on Patreon today.
Debut and learn are my 2 favs, this album was good, but not the best in my opinion. I saw them live on the debut album tour in 1989... Watching Shane reminds me of Jack Black from School of Rock lol. These guys are amazing, I'm more of a fan of their earlier music but all their stuff is good
For me, _Stay of Execution_ and _Learn_ were peak of the band. I really liked _River Disturbance_ too. And then I just lost track of about everything after that although I do own a copy of _Assimilation_ . . . Oh, I checked my NAS, apparently I also bought not one, but TWO copies of _As Above So Below_ I guess I am a bigger fan than I thought. For thrash, I strongly recommend Believer ("Vile Hipocrisy", "Dies Irae", "Trilogy of Knowledge") and Seventh Angel (the entire _Lament For the Weary_ ). Mortification was a treat. They ever got one of them "controversial" album art on their first album (self titled).
You should check out a band called Watchman. Especially the 1st album it's very heavy metal and the lead singer sounds a bit like Dio. Love Deliverance and appreciate your objective critique of Christian bands.

Love me some Deliverance! Saw them back in 2002 and they were great! Check out Impending Doom for some Christian Death Metal.
The peak? You atarted with the pinnacle bro. I remember em being called metaliclones in the 90s but I was way into them. Still am haha
Great, Loved it🤘🏽🤘🏽
Lars Ulrich said in an interview back then that this was one of the best thrash albums of the year.
Another good song from Deliverance is (Enlightenment) please do a reaction on this song.
30 years late....but better late than never😂🤘🏼
BTW, George Ochoa was in RECON, not Mortification.
True, but he did some guitar work on Primitive Rhythm Machine - a milestone!
Yes thats true, he played all the solo's on that record.
4031 is a killer track on PRM!
Shane Diablo ur awesome broski Deliverance was amazing band back then.
Michael thank you my friend! hope all is well with you and your fam!
@@ShaneDiablo yes they are thank you for ur Gratitude broski..
The album Learn was my favorite, but there’s good stuff on all their albums. Jimmy Brown has a knack for a creative riff with a hook or a groove.
I would love to see u do Believer "Sanity Obscure" and Tourniquet "Psycho Surgery".
This was their biggest album but the self titled debut was a masterpiece imo great band though
You should check out a band called Watchman. Especially the 1st album it's very heavy metal and the lead singer sounds a bit like Dio. Love Deliverance and appreciate your objective critique of Christian bands.
There is a video to that song... the group Bride somg Everybody knows my name is a good 1 to...
Thanks for the heads up Kelly I will check it out!
Checkout their song, Slay the Wicked. It has a Ripper Owens vibe and to me is their beast song
jim is my favorite christian metal band
Check out "one bad pig.." Christian speed metal.
The lead singer used to date james hetfeilds sister... they had the same rig, gibson explorers + marshall stacks
This is one of the best albums of all time ❤❤❤
