I remember this well. I was 15 years old at the time; 1995 was a hot summer and I had just done my GCSE exams. Although I knew of Harry Secombe from the Highway programme, I hadn't been familiar with Vera Lynn before then, but have liked her singing ever since. It was a special occasion because so many Second World War veterans were then living, including my grandfather, who I recall wondered what all the fuss was about since he didn't get back to this country until 1946.
The memories of Queen Elizabeth are precious and profound. How the anti royalists can even think they have an edge over those experiences is ludicrous.

Dame Vera Lynn’s rendition of ‘A Nightingale Sang in Barkley Square’, with its slower pace, was very emotional and very haunting, especially now that The Forces Sweetheart has left us, to join all those boys that she sang for who went before.

As I watched and listened to this video, it was rather eerie to listen to Her Majesty the Queen @ 1:02:56. At that point the parallel to the movie "A Royal Night Out!" was so relative. The Queen reminiscing drew such parallels to a wonderful movie, even if "Artistic License" was taken.
