Watching this vid while my hands are aching from my job. Here's to hoping I get to build a new one soon!
nice build! -regards from Indonesia (or just me then, hahah)
hey! im kinda late but can i ask for a cleaning tutorial specifically for this keyboard? like stabalizers and feet stand.
I think due to the top mounting plate design which if you do use other stabs with a tighter tolerance during installation you need to use tweezers to actually push the clip back to place or else it will get stuck during stab moving back down. Still this is a nostalgic video for me which actually made me start my keyboard hobby journey 6 months ago as your video gave me the confidence to finally purchase my first hotswap keeb which is machenike K500 now Im too deep in the rabbit hole and proud owner of a few keebs. Thank you again covering the K500 when not alot of those big keeb YT channel would cover. Budget KEEBS 4 LIFE!
I will say this is the best video to use if you are new to building or modding a keyboard this showes all you need to know
Thank you for your feedback! I'm still pretty new to modding..this is just the 4th one I modded. I'm still trying to be proficient in tuning stabilizers.
@@KonzTech you are doing an amazing job this video helped me out more than any other video i have watched on youtube
Just recently bought my K500, saw your review and I've been waiting for your modding video, thanks!!
You're welcome. Hope this video helped in showing this keyboard's modding potential
@@KonzTech Totally!! Would like to get your keycaps recos for the K500, currently searching
@@margepantaleon4994 You can get any you prefer but just be sure it has modifier keys for the following:
Right Shift: 1.75u
Right alt, ctrl, fn: 1u
Numpad 0 key: 1u
Ideally these can be found on complete sets like those having 119 keys above
@@KonzTech Got it. So any keycap profile would suffice? Doesn’t have to follow the K500’s OEM profile?
@@margepantaleon4994 yes you're fine with whatever profile. I used Cherry profile on this mod. The most important thing when you look for keycaps are the modifier keys I mentioned since compact ung layout nia, may mga keys na smaller than usual
Greaat Video, Sounds alot better than the plastic sounding stock.
I bought this exact same keyboard so I could try modding it. Thanks for the in depth video, your dedication really deserves more subs. You've got a sub from me
Hey glad to be of help! It's a bit of a pain to mod though since 3-pin hotswaps are tight AF. But still, it's not so bad for the price.
Thank you so much for this! I was also going to buy this with the same switches but wasn't sure if it would work. Have heard some hot-swappable keyboards only work with outemu switches but this one is an exception. Thanks again!
I just bought this KB and it's really nice, just the simple tape mod, "foam" mod on the case and clipping the stabs makes this KB sound really nice, I'm plaaning to replace the Switches for some Akko cream yellow and I hope it sounds even better.
respect for the opening of the seven deadly sins
Omg i like the sound, gundam seed destiny 😭❤️
0:57 yeah the included switch puller is so difficult to use. i find that using flathead screwdrivers work better. I pulled out the switches much easier but it entails a lot of risks as the pins could bend and the casing might get damaged.
Thank god for this tutorial. I bought K500 on sale and, planning to mod coz my other stock keyboards RK and Keychron are too expensive for an inexperienced person like me to play (destroy) with.
10:00 so thoccckyy omg im tempted to modd mine
man congratulations on the work I can't imagine how much you invested in it in terms of dedicating yourself and everything
I'm very new to keyboards but I would like to know if I can put any keycaps kit (I intend to put one that has other letters of the language I'm studying) or does it have to be something specific?
Thank you. And yes you can as long as it fits the layout. As for the other language, I think you can set it in windows or maybe get a 3rd party software to make it work. Sorry that's much I can tell. I have not tried that before.
@@KonzTech I'm grateful for the answer
I'm going to try to find as close as possible and about the language I was able to configure it using Windows itself, the only problem is that they are different letters (Cyrillic) I wanted to get a keycaps that has the letters we use (a, b, c and everything else) together of the Cyrillic alphabet would make it much easier
That's what irks me about durock stabs, their size are incompatible with most boards and price of it is not worth it imo. Enter and shift keys are a bit mushy but idk if that's just the mic, overall good video though! Was looking for someone who has tried prying open the case and use as a guide! 😁
I used everglide here and I was surprised it's incompatible. But it's ok, it worked on my RK G68 so it wasn't wasted haha. I think I applied to much dielectric grease so some of the stabs sounded mushy...you're right. The enter and shift really felt mushy to me haha. But it now broken in so it feels and sounds better xD
Woooow, nice job!!!!
Great video!
Thanks!
Ours sound nearly identical, my own pitch being an octave higher due to the lower quality generic pudding keycaps being used plus using a mix of Outemu Pands for the alphas, the stock browns for the F keys and Akko Jelly Purples for everything else
The stabs are surprisingly not bad after just being lubed, didn't feel much different from the Everglide V3s I mixed in (except for the space bar), if at all
The entire plastic construction makes the board an easy 'thock' sound target mod IMO
Hi I have been watching your vid and followed the step and found a problem.
The switches seems to be hard to put in and not fully attached to the PCB and made the copper leg bend.
BTW I'm using the same switches as yours or maybe I have taped mod the PCB too much?
Thank you for an interesting and useful video on keyboard modding! Your video was very informative and clear and thanks to it I was able to learn a lot about the modding process. I myself am going to buy the same model, it is interesting to know what thickness of foam should be optimal for the case? I want to buy 4 or 5 mm foam, but I'm afraid that it may be too much
Glad I was able to help. For this specific keyboard, it's safe to use 2mm because some of the spaces are a bit tight. You can just stack them if you want something thicker.
I finished modding mine and got a pretty similar result. I used eva foam, pe foam, tape, and lubed ktt kang whites. I wouldn't call it thocky but it was so much better than the stock k500. Mine became more poppy/marbly.
For keycaps i just picked up the ones from an old corsair keyboard. Really thinking hard about getting new keycaps since they are basically the price of the original board.
Idk if the case can be replaced since the layout is really weird.
just bought this keyboard. the switches are so impossible to remove. any tips on this?
Great video btw!
Just apply a little wiggle on the switch while gradually pulling them out. 3-pin hotswaps are tight by design especially on stock switches(that often have brittle housing). The AKKO switches I put on this keyboard are way easier to remove though
get a better switch puller
HOW DID U REMOVE THE SWITCHES? I gave up after 9 switches
They're hard to pull..it's a trait of 3-pin hotswap sockets..try holding the keyboard vertically while pulling the switches out from the side. But yeah..I didn't really do anything special..I just had a lot of patience lol
I used a knife
For deeper typing sound, which do you think I should try first, change the keycaps or change switches? I like the sound of your keyboard already, would hope to achieve the same. For mine so far I only did tape mod (1 layer "painters tape", 1 layer masking tape (the painters tape won't stick for 2nd layer LOL)) and EVA 2mm foam, and am still using the stock red switches that was said to be factory lubed. I also had someone lube the stabilizers. So far I believe it's quieter, and got rid of the metal echo that I used to notice, but not yet deep sounding or "THOCK".
I don't know if you found the answer yet but, Definitely change the switches, but the case and keycaps can also get you a deeper sound, metal keycaps, case, and lubed switches, would definitely give your keyboard the thocc.
@@Ilovemydogssssssss I modded this keyboard with switches, keycaps, lubing, other stuff to put inside for dampening. Sadly I exceeded $100 and ended regretting everything, i could've gotten a full alu kit at that point.
@@nagusameta366 wow, I’m about to mod this keeb rn. I spend around 60 dollars on stuff. Is it not worth it?
@@Ilovemydogssssssss The modding still takes it far from it's stock condition. But just when I compare it to keyboard kits that are full aluminum, polycarbonate/metal plate, and gasket mounted, the difference are just so far apart. Leobog hi75 kit costs about $40 here, which is double the Machenike k500. I would imagine at least $30 to $40 more for switches and keycaps. So coming up to only $80. I guess you still have plenty room to explore which mods could make machenike k500 better. Some limitations, there isnt much space to put a lot of foam in it, and the usb-c port is a problem for mods that raise the overall height of the board, like if you would try o ring mount mod to make it feel like gasket mounted. Also cannot replace the plastic plate (the outer layer where the switches sit on) i think. I havent tried things like sticking foam or tape to the back of the plate though.
If you like linear switches, i would suggest at least tactile switch for the spacebar. For some reason the spacebar sounds like a heavy brick slamming when i was using a linear switch in it xd
i bought this keyboard. but how did you get the switches to fit? the pcb doesn't have the left and right hole. I bought Akko v3 silver pro. Should i cut out the plastic bits on the switches?
ooh nice
watched the full video because of the BGM lolz. when will you ship that to my address? xD
hahahaha out of range ka sa lalamove sir xD
@@KonzTech pag punta mo sa EU pag baon mo ko. hahaha
I bought this KB because it's cheap and wanted to try modding it, so thank you for this video. I still don't know how to pronounce its name though. :p
You're welcome. It took me 3 review videos before I finally got their brand name right lol
do you know if its possible to customize it to a different language layout? specifically to ABNT-2 (brazillian portuguese version)
o k500 não tem o ç e acentos mas é só você colocar a linguagem do teclado do pc (Alt + Shift) que funciona normalmente
Cloud you please tell me, what is the default keycaps height profile?
this keyboard support 5 pines? i want to modify this same keyboard with akko piano v3 but i don't know if this possible
Only 3-pins. The wireless version of this keyboard is updated though and that one uses 5-pin hotswap sockets
How do you pull the switch out, is from top and bottom or left and right
I pinch the locks at top+bottom using a switch puller then wiggle a bit and pull out
Hey man i bought the same keyboard and try to tape mod it but now my keyboard flashes red do you have a solution for this please man
Are the Keycaps backlit? or does the RGB lights shines through the Letters and numbers?
They are not shine-through. These keycaps are dye subliminated so they're not really made for RGB. As you can see in the build, I just simply turned the RGB off..although, the lights would still pass through the gaps between the keycaps...but meh, it looks better without it.
Anyone can please guide why my K500-B94W always have to connect to power source? if unplug then it's not functioning already
Hey! i just bought this keyboard, and i want to know, did you test it with other type of switches? Some keyboards have a socket that can only fit Outemu and Akko because of the socket having thin pins, do you think this one can fit gaterons?
Gaterons won't fit on 3-pin hotswaps like this without extra work like filing down the pins. Gateron pins are always thicker than typical outemu, akko and cherry pins. And on top of that, they have extra plastic pins that you need to clip since they will interfere with mounting.
@@KonzTech Thanks Mate! Well, this is my third mechanical keyboard and i just remembered one of them is a 60% Gateron Red keyboard that i could try to swap into my keyboard when it arrive (which i think will be next week). If i remember i'll notify you
How does the rgb look with these key caps on? Can you make a short showcasing the rgb?
They don't let a lot of RGB pass through. If you want RGB, you have to get shinethrough keycaps..but most of them don't have these kinds of colorways
@@KonzTech at least show us how it looks when rgb on
gnda nito master,
Hello! I don't know much about keyboards, but can you tell me if Epo maker Flamingo switches are Compatible to mechenike k500b61?? I want use these switches on my keyboard
As you got non shine through key caps douse the rgb look weard or douse it just give a nice under glow style effect to it?
Also can you read thr key caps at night without a light?
well uhh..there are just lights in the gaps in between the keycaps. I barely see the letters at night but I don't really care coz I touch type anyway ;p
the switches ajazz banana, peach and kiwi thats compatible with this keyboard
sound amazing, what other switches are compatible with this keyboard? i wanna buy it but the stock switches are not silent enough for me and im new in this mod keyboard thing
I recommend getting some sampler switch before trying to swap.
things that worked for me:
ktt strawberry
outemu silent peaches
switches which failed:
Akko v3 pro lavender
gateron milky yellow
maybe u over lubed... that's why it´s being stuck.
My Akko switches is the pink one and in my first lube i had the same issue rsrsrs, i just removed a little bit of the lube and every thing back to normal.
I still use the Redragon Kumara and i thinking to buy the Mechanike K500w.
It wasn't lube coz I tried the stock switch with the everglides and it was still stuck. I think the plate has a slight manufacturing defect. If I had enough patience to file it down, perhaps the everglides would've worked. I'll probably try again once I have time.
Why to usw that sheet and the tape on the keyboard?
It's for sound dampening. It's just preference..you don't really need it
I cant take off switches. Only fisrt i removed - I broke it a little. Why is it so hard?
How does it look like with the rgb on?
Thock!
I kindda like the thock I get from these switches more than the linear switches I've used before. It's just that I think I'll have arthritis after long typing sessions hahahaha
I just got the same keyboard and I’m really happy not only this is my first mech KN and I really need numpads so this is good! I have a question tho, how will I know which keycaps to use most especially for the same keyboard?
Keycap sets that are more than 108keys should have the modifier keys for the right alt,fn,Ctrl and shift..go for the 119+keycap sets
Does the north facing leds interfere with your cherry profile keycap set?
Yeah. It's a given for north facing leds and cherry profile keycaps. But honestly, I don't really notice unless I pay attention to it. On a normal day of typing/gaming, I can't really notice at all.
Can i put cherry switches and keycaps on this keyboard instead of huano switsches and OEM keycaps?
Not sure about cherry switches but the keycaps I used here are cherry profile keycaps.
did the Akko switches fit loosely or did they sit tight?
I'm considering buying this keyboard and changing the original switches to Akko's switches, but I'm afraid it won't work...
original language
os switches Akko encaixaram com folga ou ficaram firmes?
estou pesando em comprar esse teclado e fazer a troca dos switches originais para os switches da Akko, mas tenho medo de não funcionar...
They fit just tight. But the original switches fit so much tighter so they're a bit hard to take out
@@KonzTech I understand thank you.
How did u pull up that "Enter" switch?? it feels like "Enter" is not hotswap
All the switches are hotswap..it's just that 3-pin hotswaps like this tend to be a little too tight
Hello, can I ask how you remove the switches? Because I'm scared to damage it since it is really hard to take/pull the switches out
You just really need to apply force and wiggle it until it comes off loose. Just use a decent switch puller because the one that comes with the keyboard is a pain to deal with. But it's manageable, 3-pin hotswaps are really a pain in switch removal xD
Is 3 pin and 5 pin switches compatible with Machenike K500 tri mode ?or does it only support switches with 3 pins ?
The tri-mode(wireless) version support 5pin switches. It uses a more universal 5-pin hotswap socket
i can not poull out switches. I broke two switches couldn't pull them out.
Is this keycap stock of this keyboard cherry profile? i've just brought this keyboard last week?
Stock keycaps are OEM. I made a separate review video for this keyboard in this channel
when full setup tour lods? 😁
hmmm di pa pala ako nkakapag-ganun. Oh cge kpag may lakas nako ng loob hahaha
Please tell me if foam with a thickness of 5 mm is suitable? Or is 3 mm the limit?
It's really preference..but I guess 2-3mm is a safe choice since not all keyboards have enough space to accommodate thick foams
The machenike k500 can be called any %? I cant find it LOL 75% 60% 90% does not apply to this keyboard
Will the akko v3 purples work with this? , only asking because they are 5 pin and not 3 pin like the ones you used
Probably not. Unless you wanna clip out the extra pins and maybe sand down the copper pins if they don't fit properly
Alright, also the standard purples sound nice enough anyway so probably just stick with the normal ones
Can someone give me the name of the song?
thank you for the video! tanong ko lang if merong issue with the akko switches regarding sa fit sa keyboard? i bought the akko haze pink silent and i noticed na it doesnt push in fully compared dun sa stock switches. it still works naman pero it's just bothering me na parang hindi siya nakapasok sa socket fully. was wondering lang if it's the same with the akko lavender?
brittle kc ung housing ng stock switches. Ung mga enthusiast grade switches like Akko is madalas malambot housing which is nice kc madali lng xa ikabit and tangglin lalo n sa mga 3-pin hotswaps tulad neto.
@@KonzTech yeah napansin ko din nung tinanggal ko yung stock. makapit na nga sila sa board madali pang magcrack. thanks for the reply!
What should I search for the keycaps?
Cara nao tem em lugar nenhum para comprar o Lavender purple, que inferno
Acho que não é tão comum fora do Sudeste Asiático no momento.
0:49 tbh, i used a real kitchen knife to pull out this switches, the problem is not the puller or the board, this huano switches i think are a bit hard, u just have to use in the bottom part of it to work like a crowbar, here is the short ua-cam.com/users/shortsELED1x7dKp0?feature=share
Lol yes kitchen knife was the way. My fingers were aching trying soo hard with the default metal remover. Kitchen knife and flick from the bottom is the way to easily remove these.
ayos pa ba sya ngayun? d pa sira?
Any update on your K500? are they still good? hoping to get your reply asap cause im about to get this one
Yep. My sister still uses it now as her daily driver.
Hey guys, I'm going to post a question here to see if anyone can help me. I have a K500W (tri mode) and due to lack of knowledge, I installed the K500 software (wired only) on my notebook. As a result, my K500W lost wireless functions and now behaves like a K500. Does anybody know how to solve this?
Douse uninstalling the software work?

Yes. You can through the preset RGB functions s keyboard or through the software
6.25 u spacebar?

I can't really confirm..I was expecting it would accept any standard plate mounted stabs but as you saw in the vid, it wasn't the case. The stock stabs are fine though..they just need to be tuned.
@@KonzTech understood thanks
ang lakas mo naman po para bunotin ang switches without any pullers and to hand lube almost a hundred switches, lol.
