    Description:
    The final and a little late Christmas / New Year video
    What better time to finally explore using Raspberry Pi to automate and aid the driving and controlling of model trains / Railways. We look at setting up and using a Raspberry Pi with Sprog DCC hardware and the Java based JMRI Software suit and Free Pixel Linux Operating System.

    Trains ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍👍👍 the working lights and sounds YES!!! Bonus that a pi is involved! Arrrgh another expensive hobby to get into! Ahh well 😀

      Yeah it can be expensive... Ive been collecting for 20+ years and have seen the prices sky rocket in recent times. What I would say is if you buy second hand, make from kit or scratch build and keep to a theme and don't go mad buying everything going then it can be done. US or Japanese model trains tend to be cheaper and better value then UK / EU models

      sorry to be off topic but does anyone know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account?
      I stupidly lost my password. I appreciate any tips you can offer me.

    I got the Sprog II but could not download or install the drivers, so I gave up on all this and bought the Railmaster which is great..

    Tom.. this video is great.. I am new to all this (my first r-pi project).. I have reviewed the links and see the video many times and I fail to get what SPROG board is the one you use on top of the r-pi. Will the Pi-SPROG 3 do the trick? Thanks again!

    • @WiFiSheep
      @WiFiSheep  3 роки тому

      Hi The Pi-SPROG 3 v2 is the latest board and from the looks of it the only one currently on sale. I think mine is a Pi SPORG 1 original. Since this video was made the Pi Linux OS and the SPROG have gone though some major updates so not everything shown in the video will now be relevant.
      Best bet will be to read the instructions and documentation with the latest hardware for best results.

    Wow I'm gonna make one I have a raspberry pi I was using as a general computer and home theatre but now I have a piece and normal Windows PC which I have built and currently didn't have used to my little raspberry pi but now I can do this

    • @g.r.railway7302

      But it's quite expensive for the sprog PCB 😳 is there enythink cheaper

    • @WiFiSheep
      @WiFiSheep  2 роки тому +1

      Hi, not that im aware of. Sprog also has quite a high learning curve! Just something to be aware of. it not really 'user friendly'

      @@WiFiSheep ahh ok, what about a Arduino and motor shealed with the DCC++ can I make that work on a raspberry pi?

    • @WiFiSheep
      @WiFiSheep  2 роки тому

      Probably not mainly due to Arduino GPIO running at 5v and Pi running at 3.3v
      Plus the Arduino used 8bit logic as apposed to the Pis 32bit So you'd really be better off just using the Arduino system. The boards are cheap and the learning curve is not that steep, but it is a sit down, read and learn, its not a Bachmann or Hornby 'out of the box' approach

    with the digital control can you have two engines on the same track? assuming the track is long enough so they dont collide.

    • @WiFiSheep
      @WiFiSheep  4 роки тому +1

      Yes you can... you could technically have 999 on the same track :-P
      The plan with this system is using sensors and custom python or java code give the system an 'AI' intelligence as to where things are, hence trains could drive them selfs on auto pilot but stop at junctions or when they meet a train being driven by a real person! .... Thats the plan!
