I loved so much about this. For the line about the wool police, I imagined a flock of sheep with police helmets say " We are coming for ewe."
Loved the finished color. Makes me think of a lace collar on a nice cardagin.
I love the personal touch of providing buyers with the backstory of the animal who provided the fiber. It makes me feel more connected to the process. Great work!
Trish thank you so much for the encouragement you have already given us and this video was the topper! Your process is so much easier than what I did this weekend. I will be trying that next. I am glad you chose Maple, her color is so beautiful and we love her so much. Funny thing-I was scrolling youtube looking for a tutorial on paper crafts when I saw the 3 little goats and thought, hmm those look familiar!
You are so welcome! I think your mohair is really beautiful and I will keep the cards forever. I have a nice little holder for notes and things people send me, so I will get to look back at them! Thanks for including me in this.

I love the postcards from the kids. It is so awesome when homeschoolers are able to incorporate things like this into their curriculum.
What an awesome gift from the family a lovely way of presenting the product !. LOVE Mohair and the feel
The cards and story make it so much more personal. I feel like that’s important with so much of our lives online. I love hearing about other homeschooling families. The yarn you made looks gorgeous.
Love this! It's obvious now that brushed mohair is literally brushed, but I didn't realize that's how it could be done. I really like those two-textured items that people make with a fuzzy yarn and a smooth yarn, so maybe a shawl or scarf that is striped with the mohair.
I'd especially like to dye both yarns with the same color (maybe a jewel tone) knowing you'll get a different shade of color with the naturally colored mohair.
The locks are gorgeous but those cards made the whole package top shelf! What a beautiful gift 💝
Oooooh, the finished yarn turned out so beautiful 🤤
Morning coffee and a FLD video….. starting my day full of knowledge ❤️ best day ever.
Morning!
My first time seeing mohair processed! Thank you Trish!
Thank you for the tips in this video. Especially the brushing tip to make the mohair fluffy
What a gorgeous skein of mohair! Mittens. Colourwork mittens. Absolutely
That was so fun to watch!
Cute. Nice package, goat pics and all. Isn't it funny how we plan something and our fiber tells us something different we're gonna do with it? HA. No clue what I would do with it. I bought some commercial stuff to try out, a single ball, and still have no clue what I'm going to do with it yet lol.
17:53 ooo the fuzz!!😄
from Gerry- That would make a lovely barrette. Thanks for taking us along with you as you worked. Be blessed.
Beautiful yarn! Thanks for showing us this process… I’ve got a mohair fleece that I have yet to spin and your video has inspired me!
You can do it!
Wow, that mohair turned out gorgeous.🥰 I think I’d use it in a hat.
Great idea!!
Hey Trish! Beautiful yarn! For a moment it looked like you’re pretending-spinning, so thin it was! Thank you for showing us!
❤ love the cards from the children.
This is so awesome! Hubby has discussed getting some goats for weed and briar control on the farm. I am hesitant because my grandpa had goats at one time here and they devestated my moms fruit trees the one time they got out. But...mohair! Its a thought to ponder now. 😊
I’ve never seen mohair unspun. It’s beautiful. Thank you for sharing
Kid cards are too cute! I will now want to try Mohair! 😂 It is gorgeous! Loved the video and someday I will be able to spin that thin...😂(yeah right ! )😏🤣
You can do it!
I’m working with mohair for the first time ever in a shawl project… 🤞it works out okay. That’s some gorgeous yarn! I’m gonna go check the other comments to see project suggestions lol
Sweet package. Love your spinning! Looks perfect!
Thank you! Cheers!
the postcards are just adorable and end result of the spun mohair is beautifull
Lonely yarn. Great job Trish. Thanks for all the info on your process..so helpful!!!
Thankyou for this tutorial, now I feel confident in carding my fleece👍 You are inspirational🥰
You can do it! Thank you so much
Thank you for showing how to wash and spin mohair. Will have to try and find some over here in the uk.
that was so very pretty not at all what i expected so much better thank you i did learn a lot i hope those kids loved watching it happen great home schooling idea i would have loved to home school but way back then law forbid it but i did preschool now i am old and love everyone else's ideas❤❤
I love seeing how you actually brush the mohair! I have some brushed suri alpaca and I have wondered how it got to that state.
never seen the raise the fluff.... great info.
Absolutely gorgeous! I would make what I call a purse shawl, it is light weight, takes up very little space and can be pulled out of your purse if you find yourself in a chilly place. Some restaurants or theaters keep it very chilly even in summer when you look silly carrying a sweater. (I live in the south)
Great idea!
What a fun surprise!
Wow. That's so pretty. Those postcards are the bomb. Thank you Trish and Sindi.
Oh my, how beautiful! I would make something close to the skin like a cowl or fancy fingerless gloves
Wow that was so informative & fun to watch. Great video!
Thanks so much!
Thank you for another wonderful video, Trish. It was good to see you handling/processing the mohair…funnily enough, I have some (already scoured when I bought it) and I was wondering about combing or carding… The yarn looks amazing, especially after brushing it. I plan to use mine for boucle. When I watched you wash the mohair, I realised how cross with myself I am for felting that Suri alpaca🙈🤣!
Very beautiful fiber and really enjoy watching your process. 👍👍👍
Amazing yardage from such a small sample of locks and it’s gorgeous.
So pretty these locks are! I agree with everyone the cards are soo sweet!
I think so too!
I went to local auction and they had 6 angora goats. I really want one, but I was a week early.
So, when I do get an angora goat, I will have your video to look back on. Right now I have 3 ewes and they really do produce more than enough wool for me. I'm just a bit greedy. 😏
That's so cool! I would probably hold it with another yarn and either make a scarf or mittens/wrist warmers
Looks absolutely lovely. Maybe a scaf or a shawl
beautiful mohair! I was curious about it but never took the step to work with it, thank you!!
Thanks for another great video! Always learn something new.😊
That was certainly happy mail!!! The postcards and stories are precious. I love the fine spin and the lovely halo -- I would make another of the Lemme cowls with beads!! thanks Trish.
What do you mean by turkey hand or turkey ply? Loved watching the process for mohair! Thanks so much!
@@rivetting77 yes, I wanted to know this, too! Also, since I haven’t spun mohair yet, I was hoping you’d show how to combine it with sheep fiber. Is it better to ply one singles of sheep fiber with one singles of mohair? Or better to card together first? Thank you!
I think you added your question as a reply to my comment. Turkey plying is a method of wrapping your single around one hand creating a cross and then feeding off the two ends to creat a two ply yarn.
Such a joy and so inspiring, watching you create Trish!
wow that turned out so nice, maybe a lacey scarf?
It hadn't ever occurred to me that I could brush fibre like you demonstrated. See? THAT is why your viewers come back over and over - very informative. Question: When you were sitting at your carder and said prep was most important, you were pulling the fibres even further apart before feeding onto the carder. Does mohair need to be super finely spread out prior to feeding on? Did I misunderstand?
Such beautiful fiber, ithe colour is similar to sisal rope, I love it! It would look really good paired with some hot pink ❤
Turned out very pretty. I haven't worked with mohair yet, but I bought some to play with at the MD Fiber Festival last month.
Absolutely a great package for you to receive and share with us all! Loved seeing the whole process of preparing the raw mohair to the finished product. Very educational video!
The postcards from the kids were a great idea. It really personalized the package. Homeschooling is a wonderful alternative to traditional education!
Nice twist on the mohair and the brushed is really brushed! 😮 Beautiful...❤
Yes! Thank you!
It is such fun watching how you process your projects...I love, love, love mohair! I will clean, dye and blend it with almost anything because I love the halo...you taught me a new process: brushing the yarn to make it bloom. I am going to brush my next skein. Do you think it does about the same as thwacking the skein? I will make 2 skeins and compare and let you know...curious minds want to know...lol ..thanks for your time, it was fun.
P.S. Have you thought more about participating in the TdF? Personally, I wear pearls: can't afford a tiara and would have so few chances to wear one. .lol
Awesome 👍
I would pair it with a wool yarn, and make it into a hat. The Musselburgh maybe? See, that’s one way you can use it for yourself; because the color of the mohair wouldn’t stand out if you have a highly saturated wool to carry it with. I think, right?
So beautiful ❤
Very cool!! And I love that you now call the plying bracelet "turkey hand" all the time without exception. 😆😆
Right?! This is how my brain works. I think if I called it an Andean plying bracelet, everybody would be like, "What's that??" 😂😂
@@FiberLoveDiary at this point I think you're totally right!🤣🤣
It's beautiful
The brushing really does bring out the mohair effect. I've also brushed other fibers like alpaca and llama. I don't have much experience spinning mohair. I might need to explore this a little. The thank you notes from the kids were priceless.
What a great video, Trish! I love how you showed us step by step how you clean, prep and spin it, and the decisions you make and why. I really liked all the close ups. I learned a lot! That fiber looks gorgeous. I'd probably hold it together with another yarn. Would it be too itchy for a hat or a cowl?
I feel like you could hold that with something to make a beautiful fuzzy something (cowl or shawl maybe?)
I would hold it with another wool yarn and knit a winter toque.
I can't believe you used to live in Holland MI! I lived there most of my life. In fact my school "sport" was dutch dancing 😅. I know it's a long way out, but do you think you'll do another meet up at the Michigan fiber festival this fall? I would just love to hear about other local gems you've found around West MI for fiber and supplies. Thanks for the awesome videos 🥰
I also lettered in Dutch Dance. There's a video somewhere with a photo of me in my Vollendam costume 🤣
❤❤❤love
Mohair is so beautiful, and I loved seeing all the steps in processing it! What a beautiful color. Unfortunate, I wouldn’t make anything with it, because mohair makes me itch so much. 😢 If itch wasn’t a factor, a floppy beanie or a simple lace cowl would be pretty.
Thanks for the washing lesson
You’re welcome 😊
Same thing happens to me too trish it's so god dam annoying lol xx
L would make a shawl
I decided I wanted to ply the Schwinn with mohair. I had some 3 lbs I washed and so I watched this video ro see if possible to run it on my drum carder. Thanks
I just tried washing my alpaca in arm and hammer instead of dawn(because of course idk what I'm doing ) and oh my goodness what have I been doing all this time🤗. Granted it was a different fleece than what I had before and I know they have different textures, but this came out sooooo much better. Smelled nice too
It's magical right?? It doesn't work as well with fancier ones either. 🤷🏼♀️
Beautiful yarn! Mohair is a weird texture for me, so I honestly don't know what I would do with it.
You're not the only one. I rarely use it, but this was pretty fun to spin.
I think a knitted berrie
I have some mohair I need to play with. Thanks
No, thanks for watching!
I looked up from my computer and you are brushing it with the same brush my husband uses for travel!!. Lol
So pretty. I need to stop watching I want to buy the things.
Wow I learned so much in this video from you! As a beginning weaver would this work as a warp?
Lace shawlette. Hey, if you had plied w the wool/silk, would you still have brushed?? Thank you!❤
Can you do the same process with angora rabbit or alpaca fluff? Or would I need to ply with a silk single of thread? Can you give more detail about what made you not like the yarn when you started plying with the silk.
I really have no idea what I'm doing, lol. I've just been using dawn on my alpaca fleeces and it takes multiple washes to get all the dirt out. Im definitely going to try the arm and hammer.
How do you find out which fiber should be brushed after spinning?
What is turkey wind?
I have never experienced mohair. Can it be worn next to skin?
What is the texture of mohair? I have dairy goats now but I'm thinking about doing angora instead 🤔
I wish I liked yarn with a halo. It’s so pretty but it bugs me to wear it
