- Sometimes van life can be very boring. Today, I'm showing you a glimpse of the slow monotonous routine of many of my mornings on the road. I don't talk much and there's some unintentional ASMR. The "boring" is the fabric of our every day... sometimes it doesn't warrant the exciting snapshots or the letters home about how awesome it is but it is truly more of the norm than anything else.... And finding the flow to the "boring" is so personal to each of us!

The ‘boring’ stuff is what needs to be done or going through in order to experience the ‘exciting’ stuff. This is true for vanlife AND for daily life for ‘stone-dwellers’. We are a Dutch couple in our 60’s, parttimers, but experienced what you showed a lot on our two month trip in Scandinavia, traveling in our small ProMaster City type campervan. This year we’re going for three months travel in Great Britain. Thank you Dee for your lovely videos about living in a small van.

I love the peace of it. Maybe it is my age but nothing makes me happier than waking up and thinking I don't have to go anywhere today. I can do exactly as I please all day. I give thanks daily for this simple pleasure.

Well that was boring. LOL We all have our mundane tasks that need tending to. Some nothing quiet time is always a good mind clearing reset. I'm sure keeping that beautiful mane looking good takes a minute or two.

I enjoyed the day-to-day routine. Is peaceful and calming I follow foresty Forest and some of his popular videos are of him sitting in his van with his wood stove going and cooking really good meals. And even though he's got hundreds of summits under his belt. Some of his most popular videos or him just hanging out in his van. So don't think we're bored

This is what I really enjoy watching. Most of the nomads I enjoy watching show the day to day stuff like how long they travel in a day or how the pick out a place to stay overnight. I’m not really all that impressed by nomads that show one vacation spot after the other. I don’t think most nomads live that way and I wouldn’t either if I was a nomad. You don’t really learn much about the lifestyle from people that have the money to go to expensive places all the time. I want to see the simpler more laid back side of being a nomad. This was very enjoyable Dee. Thank you for sharing.

At 9:04 I wasn't sure whether you were waving to a friend on the right, or your shadow was waving to the video audience. It felt nice having your shadow wave hello, in either case.
Side story. I visited Box Van Dee for 4 or 5 days, a few days after the eclipse. She was discussing getting a different car than the big old V8 sedan she has, in addition to her box van. Debating between a small car to tow behind the box van, versus a vehicle which can be used on its own for camping trips away from her home base in an RV park. She asked me a question clearly about you and your van, but wasn't recalling your channel name at the moment, so I said "You mean the other Dee, Lady Bugout?" Yes. She then told me how impressed she was with your build and how everything was exactly how you liked, and that it all made sense to her, looked great, etc. I agreed, and said "Did you know she's turning (insert magic number) this year?" Well, Dee just about fell off her seat, saying "I thought she was in her thirties" and giving her patented laugh. Then she went on about how nice you seem, not phony "like a lot of them", how beautiful you are, how every guy must want you (with a sudden stare at me until she got past my poker face) and how that is both a blessing and a curse for a woman.
We did 4 small and medium projects on her rig, did a dental/pharma run to Mexico, and planned a bigger project for my next visit, sometime this year. I'll also finish up the Mexican dental work if the first half from this time turns out to be problem-free... and so far, it has been perfect. For me, this year includes getting all medical procedures/specialists up to date, after deferring some of it during the pandemic. Even without bad behavior/eating/etc, age alone has created a short list of lifetime meds for me now. The graph of stroke and heart attack risk vs age for me (with vs without Lipitor), for example, convinced me that there is no shame in going on meds, to reduce the chance of a catastrophic medical event.
Next week, one of my kids is installing a car seat in my car, for shuttling my grandkid around. The title to my car just arrived from Toyota, with the car appearing able to far outlast the new-car loan which is paid off. I'm getting alerts on Alaska-cruise bargains to check off that last state. I managed to go 6 for 6 on not getting clouded out of totality. Life is good, but I'm not saying that it would be without staying on the ball.
I think that taking in stride the effort level required to get things in order and deal with all of life's curve balls, is a key to happiness. I view part of it as work ethic, part of it as simply needing to be sort of unflappable, willing to adapt and do what needs to be done, without being shocked that not everything is as easy as it seems it should be, or can be done how you expected it could.
My journey has had plenty of bumps, and some verifiable mistakes, but some incredibly good and lucky things, too. It doesn't take many ups, to make up for some downs.

We have the identical Transit Connect Van (although my 2012 Van named “Presto “ is white) I am always amazed how much space you have made in the back of yours! Was just working on the back of it today.

Great topic and very useful. I think sometimes people get caught up in the idea that van dwelling will be all glorious and fix everything in their lives. Van life is living and life is only as good as you make it.

My life is mostly boring. I like my routine of a cuppa tea with spices added. I enjoy my morning stroll through my garden to see what's up and what's for lunch. Then breakfast.
I had a bit of excitement 3 days ago with an allergic reaction to pineapple. It is starting to go down, but I still look like a movie monster.
I see wildlife on the regular, wandering my food forest.
Excitement is overrated.

It can be boring at home as well! Would be a good day to read or write! I follow a few on UA-cam and thought I'd let you know a trick I came across a few years back if your knives are dull get some foil fold it up to 3 or 4 layers slice threw it a few times it'll sharpen your knife you can sharpen scissors t by cutting the foil! How to make coffee the first thing when I'm camping in my van I just finished a floor in my van which is no build Odyssey and next in two weeks I'll be going to Theodore Roosevelt National Park to test out how good everything is from the van.
That’s awesome! Hope it goes well. One of my friends uses a good Italian instant coffee that tastes like espresso. I never thought instant could have that rich taste but that could be an alternative for you until you get a pour over.

Your coffee filter seems to work great. I have one that seems clogged up because filtering goes at a snail's pace. Any special washing technique?
Love all the bird sounds around you.
I let it dry out with the coffee grinds in it and tap it out. If it seems clogged I just spout some hot water on it and rinse. This one has been good for almost three years running.

slept in my car last evening due the 4 th loud insomniac old lady that never goes anywhere....over 55 apt are not a good option. Though with working I am not sure whether to try this on the midwest streets. Maybe at 62 for income for options?

Do you wash your face before putting on the castor oil?
It depends. I usually wash up in the evening. I have very dry skin so I try to maintain whatever oil I can. I sometimes use a damp cloth with just water if I feel grimy or gross.😝

What do you use that’s all natural for sunscreen. I use castor oil on my scalp too, but I never thought of using it on my face since I have greasy oil skin that’s gross. 🫠
Earth mama organics has a great mineral sunscreen. Smells good too. And sun bum has a good mineral blend.

I want a Vancubic but am in USA. The doors where back of van can be opened for light, yet have a window and a sliding door for safety.

I was very concerned about your wellbeing when I saw the forlorn sadness in the rather disturbing still photo. However my concern was dispelled while watching your tranquil morning routine. Think of it this way, if you were at your home, it would be necessary to do many things inside and outside your house that are actually boring. I am in Kansas heading slowly back to MI where I will have much to do inside and outside as well as lots of grading and commenting for a spring online class that I am teaching. I will miss my travel freedom. On the other hand, I like being at home when the weather is good. Your video did not look boring, it looked relaxing, especially the lake view. I only nodded off once while watching it. Lol. Nice ending; I love the woodpecker. More “boring” videos would be great.

I am curios about your Vehicle. I know that it is a Ford Connect Van. How many miles doe it have on the Odometer? Have you had any mechanical problems?
It had 69,000 when I got it. It’s a 2010. Almost four years later it has over 144,000. I maintain it regularly. It has had the two front ball bearing replaced and new tires. Other than that it’s been great. Repairs are quite reasonable and I can usually find Ford dealers anywhere I am in the states.
