I really respect namdharis for preserving the actual kirtan style. I have rarely seen them doing asa di vaar or any other shabad with harmonium. They use stringed instruments all the time🙏🏼🙏🏼🌺🌺
But the problem is, it’s not traditionally a Sikh instrument, or one which Guru Ji endorsed. The Guru’s created many stringed instruments because they are much more invoking to our soul. The whole point of Kirtan is to help us literally connect with Vaheguru (God) more easily, the harmonium although simple to learn is a lot lower level because of its limited ability to produce tones that flow naturally from one note to the other etc
It was placed in Sikh temples because it sounds like a church organ. The British attempted to bring Sikhs towards Christianity. Only the naamdharis use the instruments of the gurus
It is the same with the chopping of the tabla in half however, this doesn't mean nothing to a Sikh, you can use any instrument you want. We should use strings because the Guru's invented them, they used them and they sound better. But using one over the other means nothing as long as you pray.
