This VOICE -- who? -- was so different from other rock voices -- what I know now is it's Linda Ronstadt's control and the continuous breath support that give her such a smooth, powerful sound. But there's more -- from that base that she can go in all sorts of expressive directions. Here Linda rocks more than I've heard elsewhere: cutting the note, even growling, but never sounding harsh or out of tune. The combination of her gift, hard work, brilliant mind, guts ... a true phenomenon. Pop divas have specialized voices that can do amazing things in certain songs; Linda Ronstadt's is the voice that a huge variety of songs gravitated to because as long as she could sing -- who else was there!
No auto-tune, no drum machine, no reverb, no back-up dancers, no pyrotechnics, no strob lights, no running her vocals up & downs the scales (Xtina) just pure raw talent. The 70s was all Linda Ronstadt, the rest was elevator music. 🎶😍😜💕
Live, the voice was really something else. Nobody, not Aretha, not Ann Wilson, not Whitney Houston, not Cristina Aguilera, not anybody, had a voice as big as she did live. That is made clearer on her mariachi performances. Probably the biggest voice in rock history and probably the most beautiful as well.
I would argue Ann Wilson (admittedly, Nancy's voice isn't on the same level) is as big, as clear, and as spectacular, but that takes nothing away from the fact that Linda's voice is just stellar.
Contrary to belief you can't just go on stage barefoot and be miss Linda Ronstadt. So many artists not all think they are and are not Linda is the original often replicated never duplicated. She is such a beautiful and very talented lady. Thank you for sharing your beautiful voice with the world.
The thing that was always great about Linda Ronstadt is the fact that she didn't rely on any "Gimmicks" or celebrity behavior to sell herself. Her singing talent spoke for itself. Her music has really stood the test of time.
I used to sneak into my brother’s room the play her albumns! Imsaw her in concert in 1977 at Mike High Stadium. I had the best teenage years for music. Linda Ronstadt, The Eagles, dan Fogelberg, CSN, it was real talent and ingenuity!
When I hear Linda sing, I always think of my late dad. She was one of his favorite female musicians. Dad gave me his amazing taste in music. God bless him!
Man, back in the 70's Linda held every world record for CUTE!!! Me and all my musician friends had major crushes on her!! J.D. Souther was such a lucky man!!!
The greatest female lead singer ever to rock the world. Demure and shy and a bundle of energy. But always quick with that beauty queen smile. She could stop you in your tracks with her looks and make you want to cry, sing and dance with her voice. Certainly was blessed to have witnessed such a great talent and wonderful human being's entire career.
Always had a crush on her and still do even though I'm 70 now. That voice is pure silver. God bless you Linda for the great memories and joy you gave to us.
The Stones live, '73' Euro tour version is outstanding... but that said, Linda owned every song that she covered. She was always at least as good as the original.
The guitar work is not as good in this one but yeah Lindas singing is better than micks but I love Mick Jagger and i like to hear the stone version sometimes I like to hear this one
I've seen Linda 3 times in my life. She is one of these singers who just sound great live as well as recorded. Just outstanding. No smoke and mirrors. Just talent.
OMG- Pure raw dynamite in a 5 foot package!! Linda crushed all the other voices in music and could cover any genre with ease. I saw her in concert in '83 and she wowed the crowd for 2 hours - perfect pitch, strong delivery and stunning beauty. The 77 "thumbs down" must be Bieber fans.
In the summer of 1977 (maybe) I went with about 8 friends to see the Rolling Stones down in Tucson. The huge crowd went absolutely crazy when Linda came out on stage to sing this song with the Stones, completley by surprise.
“I wrote ‘Tumbling Dice’ but Linda Ronstadt owns it.” - Keith Richards

Here Linda rocks more than I've heard elsewhere: cutting the note, even growling, but never sounding harsh or out of tune. The combination of her gift, hard work, brilliant mind, guts ... a true phenomenon. Pop divas have specialized voices that can do amazing things in certain songs; Linda Ronstadt's is the voice that a huge variety of songs gravitated to because as long as she could sing -- who else was there!
She's Linda Ronstadt she can sing anything with style and CLASS. Bloody brilliant.
45 years later and high school crushing on her like it was yesterday!
I get the same smile on my face I got 40 years ago when I saw Linda, she will always be perfect to me...
No auto-tune, no drum machine, no reverb, no back-up dancers, no pyrotechnics, no strob lights, no running her vocals up & downs the scales (Xtina) just pure raw talent. The 70s was all Linda Ronstadt, the rest was elevator music.
🎶😍😜💕
Linda at the height of her tremendous powers! Damn, did we all love her so!! Still do.
Linda was awesome, could make any song her own. And Waddy Wachtel, man that guitar sounded so good. Those were the days when talent ruled.
Best version ever. Linda has such an amazing voice and the band is top notch!
Jonathan Wallach well said amigo😀
Jonathan Wallach Indeed her voice was transforming - especially in concert. Nothing else quite as splendid.
I would argue Ann Wilson (admittedly, Nancy's voice isn't on the same level) is as big, as clear, and as spectacular, but that takes nothing away from the fact that Linda's voice is just stellar.
Seen and heard em all. Linda was Top of the World.
Jeff Zachritz No way Linda could sing it all Gospel, Ballads, Rock, Big Band, you name it no female has ever transitioned like her.
Love Linda Ronstadt. Love that I can finally understand the words to the song. She is the best vocalist of our time -- male or female.
Totally agree.
@Leebo Leigh I don't have to look lyrics up because I understand them when Linda sings. Please re-read my comment.
Except Tumbling Dice apparently as this is far inferior to the Stones version being just a bar band cover at best.
Na !!!! Paul Rodgers is better by a gnats eyelash.... Linda best female voice.
Absolutely the Queen! Enough said.
An absolute Masterpiece, by an absolute Master! Beauty and Talent!
I saw Linda Ronstadt at a teen club in Long Beach, CA. I was 14, the band was the soon-to-be Eagles! Great memories……
The queen of the 70s and still is today! Miss you Linda!
Contrary to belief you can't just go on stage barefoot and be miss Linda Ronstadt. So many artists not all think they are and are not Linda is the original often replicated never duplicated. She is such a beautiful and very talented lady. Thank you for sharing your beautiful voice with the world.
There will never be another Linda
The greatest female singer ever hands down, that growl sends me to the moon. :)
Wow that growl! Gets me every time!! Never gets old!
The True Queen Of Rock & Roll.
I love how she shakes off the other sounds, and lets that voice go, knowing that every being with a hint of music in them, must surely smile..
The thing that was always great about Linda Ronstadt is the fact that she didn't rely on any "Gimmicks" or celebrity behavior to sell herself. Her singing talent spoke for itself. Her music has really stood the test of time.
No need for her to 'entertain'. She is the pure definition of a singer.
I used to sneak into my brother’s room the play her albumns! Imsaw her in concert in 1977 at Mike High Stadium. I had the best teenage years for music. Linda Ronstadt, The Eagles, dan Fogelberg, CSN, it was real talent and ingenuity!
LINDA RONSTADT is the greatest. What a voice, what a nice person.
Absolutely fecken gorgeous Linda.
What the men folks called "smokin" . Linda was so tremendous in concert. We owe her... classic indeed.
Yes. The very definition of smokin'.
Hawt. Hot. Sex-EE. Smokin. Oh, and talented as hell!!
It's amazing how something so simple can sound great.
Beautiful voice beautiful woman. Great band. Greatest woman singer ever.
This is my favorite Stones song. No one else should or could ever cover this song. 1977 was incredible 😊
Well said.
Kickin' back with Linda Ronstadt, What a Voice!
Always had a crush on her and still do even though I'm 70 now. That voice is pure silver. God bless you Linda for the great memories and joy you gave to us.
When I was 12, I had her daisy dukes pants picture poster on my bedroom ceiling. Listened to her on headphones àt night.
Jagger and Richards have done a fine bit of song writing but, Linda took this one to the stratosphere with this great bunch of musicians!
+warren eaton Agreed!
The Stones live, '73' Euro tour version is outstanding... but that said, Linda owned every song that she covered. She was always at least as good as the original.
She could sing anything!
The guitar work is not as good in this one but yeah Lindas singing is better than micks but I love Mick Jagger and i like to hear the stone version sometimes I like to hear this one
Plus Linda's a whole hell of a lot easier on the eyes than Mick and Keith.
I could watch and listen to Linda’s videos all night. I did once but I’m older (66) now. Gotta go to bed. She’s the best!
I've seen Linda 3 times in my life. She is one of these singers who just sound great live as well as recorded. Just outstanding. No smoke and mirrors. Just talent.
What a marvelous woman!! Thank God for these recordings of her music 🎶
Great cover great song great great backing band plus amazing singer LR what a cutie
So talented and so absurdly hot. She ruled the world in this era...total knockout.
I'm with you. She was adorable. She gives this little smile at about 1:40 that would melt a dead man's heart.
@@nickrobinson7283 How bout 3:19
OMG- Pure raw dynamite in a 5 foot package!! Linda crushed all the other voices in music and could cover any genre with ease. I saw her in concert in '83 and she wowed the crowd for 2 hours - perfect pitch, strong delivery and stunning beauty. The 77 "thumbs down" must be Bieber fans.
We sure miss Linda. She had such a great voice for Rock & Roll.
The way she turns around to the band at the end , appreciating their brilliant contribution.
She looks like even though her name is on the marquee, Linda knows she's really just part of the band.
The one and only, Linda Ronstat. No one can ever replace her talents or vocals.
My favorite singer singing one of her best songs... Doesn't get much better than this...I miss this girl so much!!!!
When Linda turned on her Rock and Roll softcore charms and hardcore vocal chops no one could touch her. CRUSH!
How the hell did that giant voice come from that petite woman? She was amazing.
Like Garland as a kid, or Brenda Lee.
Linda, Wadi and Tumbling Dice. Can't ask for more
Pure talent. No ink, no auto anything. Just playing and singing.
In the summer of 1977 (maybe) I went with about 8 friends to see the Rolling Stones down in Tucson. The huge crowd went absolutely crazy when Linda came out on stage to sing this song with the Stones, completley by surprise.
