    I always liked the MD(BF5)431, for me it was best dynamic vocal mic in the world, i have 4 of them and have been using them for 20 years i guess ;)
    If i needed wireless i went for the 9235 capsule, unbelievable one ;)
    I think they made some really nice mics with these two ...
    Thanx for the great review Claes !

    Super interesting! Wondering if the brightness of the new MD series would negatively enhance S-es when compressed heavily.
    But for my type of heavy vocalists I think the 445 would be problematic because of the low end/wind response, or as described the F noises. I'd go 435. Then again, I don't think I'll let my (cinematic) blood faced singers grunt into a 500 euro microphone... ;-)

    The SM58 needs more drive and more tweaking to sit in a live mix, but has a musical sound once it does... these mics seem like they would be very good for getting a sound that sits well... it's quite strange how good the SM58 is with how cheap it has laways been... I do like how these sound though and definely be good quick setup microphone... the detail can also make any unwanted sound more evident... lick lips smacks, breaths etc as you tested as I watch you test this now... they are better than the other ones tested... I'm a little more to the liking of a telefunken m80 than the SM58 but it still seems like a staple that is only good if used correctly... these two mics are test are close though and could suit certain vocal sounds way better.... it maybe even be more common that the SM58 as I think about diffrect sound stages they would fit... could even completely replace it on certain applications.
    Thanks for this video, love your channel

    Whoa... the off axis rejection is really something else! Too bad tho, that the basket choice makes it so sensitive to breathing sounds. I wonder if you could swap the baskets and if it could fix that issue at least somewhat.

    To this day, it is still hard to beat the MD435. It’s a delightfully non-hyped, perfect dynamic. I prefer flatter in all my mics, as opposed to flattering, but particularly for vocals as I can hear the individual’s true voice and go from there. Tailored vocal mics are doing the very last thing I want to a singer, why spend any time trying to dial out the ‘special’ built-in response. In the worst cases it can be almost impossible to do so. The 445 has a nasty presence boost I have no use for.

  • @rolandclarke1782

    Good tests, but the Beta 58 is hypercardioid so has a small lobe on the rear of its polar response. One reason it can be more difficult with stage monitors.

    • @MasterclaesVideos
      @MasterclaesVideos  3 роки тому

      Hi Roland, I was trying to show that lobe and showing how much less sensitive that same lobe is on the Sennheisers... I’ve never ever seen wedges put at the 120 degree null lobe... too far apart! So the wedges are mostly in that lobe, so well done Sennheiser!

    • @MasterclaesVideos
      @MasterclaesVideos  3 роки тому

      Hi Roland! Exactly! I’ve never seen wedges being pointed at the 120 degree nill point... they are slways closer together firing at the lobe... the sennheisers will cause less problems...

    • @Videditor1067
      @Videditor1067 3 роки тому

      Roland Clarke Well he does compare it to the 445 which is a hyper-cardioid, thus the 445 would have the lobe also.

    thank you for this test because there is not yet much opinion on the sennheiser (s) on the net. Personally I have the impression that for my use I prefer the Beyer TG-V70d, it seems to me that the sound that comes out is usable as well in home studio as on stage, the 2 sennheiser are probably better for the stage only but I have the impression that the sound is too aggressive to be used for recording.

      Hi Robin, to my ears and taste the sennheisers were the smoothest of all... i dont know how you are listening to the test but i suggest you listen to it on good quality studio monitors or headphones. Enjoy it again!

      @@MasterclaesVideos thank you for your reply. I listen to HD 650 with an arrow from uad. Yes you are right the sennheiser sound more fluid but in my ears there is a certain "hardness", I find the Beyer softer, maybe because it has more bass. I am not saying in any way that the beyer is better, I just feel that it corresponds more to what I expect from a dynamic microphone, I will use it for a more "lo-fi sound texture" with my acoustic guitar and for use as a vocal microphone on stage (I already have an akg 411 for the rest). In any case I trust your judgment because you had it in your hands and I am only basing myself on the few seconds or the two microphones are compared. So you aroused my curiosity and when I have the budget I will order the sennheiser, in the worst case I could return it if I don't like it. sorry for my aproximative english, i speak french and i use google trad ;-)

    B58 is better in my opion. I think the Senheisers are too boomy and bright. By the time you eq the boominess out of them they're gonna sound thin. I would rather add a little high end with the Shure. Ive had great luck live with Shure. I think the best Shure is the SM86 Cardioid Condensor. It says Award winning Vocal Microphone on the box. So it must be known. Ive been singing almost 40 years and just discovered it a couple years ago . But i love it. I like it better than the Beta 87A Its my favorite live mic now. There is an difference in gain of ~8dB between the SM58 and the MD435 in the comparison, this is to much. Later on the test the difference sensitivity of other mics are leveled but this was not the case in comparison with the industry standard SM58 we all know.
    When I use the recording of the SM58 as reference now I get the impression the MD445 sounds like radio-DJ with loudness turned on.

    • @MasterclaesVideos
      @MasterclaesVideos  3 роки тому +1

      Albert: even if there is a difference in gain/volume I have never experienced a change in sound. A change in gain is simply louder vs more silent, but never have i experienced a difference in sound except for the fact that your ears react different to different sound levels... by the way: I explained how i conducted the test exaxtly to show the differences in gain because the capsule design gets better and better... there are 2 ways to conduct the test: same gain to show the level differences or same output to show gain before feedback etc... By the way: I am doing this not being sponsored, not getting the big bucks out of it... so it is what it is...

      @@MasterclaesVideos First of all Thanks for the video and the afford you take to make these video's.
      I'm selling for more as 30 years microphones and if you do a/b testing with a clients they first focus on output and bass also you tend to take the first mic as an reference in a session.
      In real life the difference in gain will be adjusted and there is also a lo-cut on a vocal mic.
      I like to test with the same output.
      The video gave me useful information and I think a lot of customers and technicians will be happy with these mic.

      Comparing a dynamic vs a condenser is difficult. Than it all comes down to the levels on stage, wedges of iem’s, loud or quiet singer…

  • @murraywebster1228
    @murraywebster1228 Рік тому

    The sennheisers benefit more from being directly sung into as opposed to being held 60-90 degrees to the mouth, especially with the 445, if you have the microphone on a stand or can have your singer learn good microphone technique the the sennheisers will really start to shine, but then again that’s why you have the choice of 435 or 445….what also does not come out in your test is how solid and differentiated the low response on the sennheisers is, most dynamic vocal mics have a very boomy and uneven lower frequency response, not so with the Sennheisers

    • @MasterclaesVideos
      @MasterclaesVideos  Рік тому
