titles please , would really help. Thanks for the comparison
nice video. I have the sony v77 it sounds realy nice... but also looking for a TC. I can get the tc 4000 for 1000 euro,s. or a tc 5000 for 600 euro,s you think the tc 4000 is better?
Why did you not use the Slate FG-3A in this shootout?
Is it possible that the needle anomaly on the T-racks White 2A etc was a graphics issue/bug/miscode not affecting the actual audio emulation part of the plugin? Because the T-racks sounded competent & quite accurate. The Overloud for me was the most authentic sounding. It seemed to capture the proper width of the original signal (unlike the CLA, which seemed to cramp the signal a bit) & it conveyed that real-world translucent holographic analog tone. It would have been good if you could have included a bass-line & a synth-line also. Then it would have been the ultimate shootout. An accoustic guitar-line only is hardly the full gamut of tones to assess the performance of the plugin.
You nailed the overtones man! impressive how incredible close Warm Audio is. Good review
Bought one, doesn't sound like a 67 at all (compared it to 3 vintage and 2 reissues). After the warranty was over it started making some noise that 3 guys couldn't get rid of...
Oh my goodness that guitar play🥲🤗💐🤜🏽🤛🏽✊🏽❤️🔥🎉🙏🏽
I think the real 67 sounds better, more complex. But WA coming close is a big deal at that price
In these examples, in my opinion, the Urei is at a special level. However, when it comes to plugins, I like Overloud for its balance and functionality
Thankyou for such a great i sight 😇🙏🏻. i can imagine how much effort it took. can you please guide us on how can we add the noise to the track/plugin like the real LA-2A ? which is missing. any plugin for that ?? Thankyou 😊
Thanks for the comment: what you can do is record the noise from a pre-amp that is turned up all the way and add that to the track
why is it only 10db not 18db-20db attenuation? would help on so many other applications other than vox.
Probably because -10 is enough to protect the circuitry for most other applications. Except for a kick drum, but that is not the best source for a large diaphragm condenser
Miss your content man!!
More coming soon!
Are you delaying your snare mics?
Like both snare mics
Yes I do!
Thank you very much for a very honest and unbiased critique. That was the answer. I was hoping for, but wouldn’t have been surprised if that wasn’t the case.
I try to be as unbiased as posible! Thank you for the comment. Did you buy something?
please revisit this topic lol
Hey, can you tell me why?
@@MasterclaesVideos this was a good video. I’m wondering about the sound of the newer 251 type mics that have come out. Did Warm Audio also updated parts inside their clone? How would you describe the sound differences of the E version 251 vs the non E?
The UAD 2254 completed fucked the timing of the different drum elements compared to dry and hardware
Thanks for the comment. Never looked at it that way. Can you tell me how you hear this?
@@MasterclaesVideos Easy way to hear it is timing between the high and low frequencies, you hear the hi hat and kick's transient order change when it's enabled
Thank you for this video, very illustrative! I’m listening in my studio with Adam monitors, and from here I can perceive the loss of ambiance in all the plugins. The Overloud plugin recovers it very well by increasing the saturation, which is interesting. UAD colors the high-end too much and adds so much saturation that it throws the sound right in your face, completely losing the room. Waves, in my opinion, is the most transparent, but it loses all the ambiance. Black Rooster… what can I say, nothing about the plugin-it’s completely useless. I stopped paying attention to this company years ago because when I installed some demos, it erased my plugin registry, and Logic Pro X (back in 2019) took at least 40 minutes to reorganize everything. As far as I’m concerned, that company might as well not exist. These tests are definitely interesting, and I’m quite surprised by Overloud. Thank you very much, greetings from El Salvador!
Pretty well done, sir! 👏 Thank you so much!
Thanks for the comment. What is your favorite?
UAD sounded better than the hardware, even though it sounded louder, I dropped volume & it still sounded better
Thanks for the comment. I’m happy to see that opinions can differ
You inspired me - my 2254s just arrived today <3
What version did you buy?
@@MasterclaesVideos I actually went with a modern clone - the 54f50s from AML. Colin, at AML used to work at Neve and makes outstanding stuff. I heard of a few studios selling their 2254/Es (which this is based on) once they got their AMLs. I adore them!
I've been researching the early Bob Marley recordings, it's said that on Burnin' he used a U67 for lead and U87 for BV's - do you think the WA-67 is a good choice for my small home studio to get close to his sound? I've been collecting classic dynamics, SM57, M88, M201, MD 421 and Senny MD441 I've recently ordered, I also have a WA47 and Avantone CV12 here
It’s as close as you can get to the real thing!
Thank you!
Additional thought: the compression action on uad, slate and overloud sound closest to your hardware, in how the low string notes are grabbed etc.
What is your ultimate choice?
Really great demo. Thanks again.
Thanks for the comment, what is your favorite?
@@MasterclaesVideos I can’t remember lol.
Elam 251 sounds the best. No competition. Has that warm wrap around bottom end with not too bright high end that all the others lack. The vintage Elam is out of my price range, but I wouldn't buy the other ptetenders either. I would test out other mics like the AKG and Austrian oc818 or similer, that have nice bottom end and smoother top end. The problem with some of the clone or pretender mics is, they very often push the price up because they are pretending to be in the same ball park as the vintage, and they are not at all. Where if you buy a mic with similer sound that isn't pretending to be any particular mic, they can be good at a reasonable price imo.
I can only agree! You should have a look at a AKG C12A. Still expensive but very nice mic!
Hi! Do you have the Neve 32264a? If so, do you think they sound better than the 500 series modules? Thank you
Hey, i’ve got several 33609’s but not the 32264A. I have no experience with the 500 series modules sorry. Did you buy something?
@@MasterclaesVideos Not yet, but I have my eye on the 33609n and the RND diode compressor (black one) of the 500 series. Cheers!
I like your Videos ✌🏽👍🏼
Many thanks! More video’s coming soon!
Ela m251 I love it so much so nice sound
The elam and M49 are the best mics!
@@MasterclaesVideos can you please recommend me a good Clone of elam? ✌🏽
Gold!!
Thanks!
Man I really miss these shootouts - they are an invaluable resource to the audio world, legitimately.
I am taking a sabatical next year to make more content!
The elam 251 is the best. Warm audio is decent but would need some extra effort to make it similar. I'm listening on good sennheiser headphones with an audio amplifier so it's very clear.
Thanks for the comment: if money was not an issue, which would you buy?
Neumann better work on their pricing because there's definitely not a $7000 difference between them that's for sure...
There is a difference if you need to pay engineers to invent something instead of people just needing to copy stuff…
The Neumann is a bit darker which a lot of people like better. The Warm Audio is definitely brighter all around. It might just be the enclosure making that difference, lol. *shrug*
Thanks for the comment. Which is your top choice?
Hi, I'd really love you to look at the Microtech Gefell M92.1s. I'm currently getting to work with one and there aren't many comparison or review videos about it so I was wondering how you would feel about it. ;) From what I can tell, it's not quite the allrounder, but i did like it on various kinds of acoustic guitars and vocals that don't need to cut through a busy mix.
It is indeed a round and full sounding mic
I think with the acoustic guitar the mic placement was kind of an influence. I'd argue the ELAM was just at the sweet spot and the other microphones sounded just as you would expect from that little difference in position: The C24 - a little thinner, more wood - because slightly more from above The MP12 - a little more mud - because closer to the sound hole The WA251 - less body and more annoying strum noise - because slightly more towards the fret board Also I think on vocals the ELAM was the best at dealing with the room acoustics. On the WA251 I was the most distracted by how your room was responding to the singer. Hot take: if you combine the ELAM with a Neve 73, you might come close to the sound of the C24.. :)
To give you a bit more insight: the capsules were as close together as possible. The source was at more that a meter away, which renders the differences in distance between the capsules obsolete. If the sources would have been at 30cm you would have a point, but not at larger distance. Please have a closer look at the video. Question: what mic sounded best?
Are there any spectrograms comparing these mics that you've made? Would love to see how the WA compares there tbh, as I couldnt hear what you were describing (might be a language thing)... I got what you said about the '24, that thing is amazing.
No spectrograms here, sorry… i can’t think of a way to mske those measurements reliable
@@MasterclaesVideos I would do it with a simple speaker, even a hifi one. 2 metres from the mics in a good acoustic environment an whip a simple sine sweep through it. Do it the same for all the mics and you get some respective differences. Many EQs in DAWs show you the curve now, but there is specific software, too. Fricker and Kohle does it it on speaker comparisons.
The shockmount on the Warm mic is junk. Cant be hand-tightened on mine.
What mic do you have?
@@MasterclaesVideos I have the 251. Spoke to an engineer guy in a local studio (he was interested in how it sounded, if he should buy one). He said to just use a spanner on it That was the only way to stop the mic from flopping over.
Is that the same PSU as the WA-251? Shame both mics dont have an in between shape past cardioid etc.
You mean wide cardioid or hypercardioid? That would mean an additional circuit with an internal pad. Don’t know if they needed that in the 60’s
@@MasterclaesVideos probably not. They also had great studio environments too compared to our homes.
🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷👏🏻, Amazing video, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the comment! Which is your favorite?
B58 is better in my opion. I think the Senheisers are too boomy and bright. By the time you eq the boominess out of them they're gonna sound thin. I would rather add a little high end with the Shure. Ive had great luck live with Shure. I think the best Shure is the SM86 Cardioid Condensor. It says Award winning Vocal Microphone on the box. So it must be known. Ive been singing almost 40 years and just discovered it a couple years ago . But i love it. I like it better than the Beta 87A Its my favorite live mic now. I sound a lot like Geddy Lee and its perfect for my voice.
Have you looked at a sE-electronics V7? That one is my favorite now
Nobody does better comparisons than you your subtle humor makes these so much more enjoyable to watch. 😄 I listened again with my headphones sounds a lot different than on my monitors and I have the Arc system from IK Multimedia on my monitors. Listened on my Focals, the ELAM is definitely the winner the C24 next and I like the MP the WA sounds a bit harsh but with a little EQ I think it would work. I didnt like it on the acoustic but I really think if the WA was positioned closer to the body it would be better. Again I think with eq it could be a good sounding mic. We are talking roughly an 11 thousand dollar difference .You convinced me to buy the WA67 for my vocals. They got a LOT closer with that one. But I agree, why so shiny? I'd love to hear some of your finished projects. Your have some beautiful hardware my friend. . Thanks for the info.
Thank you for the kind words! More cintent coming next year… my work is mainly live at the moment. You can have a look at this video and hear a bit of my work 😀 ua-cam.com/video/98VcG6JuzzU/v-deo.htmlsi=U9OXnSADNDMcyf8v
Great Comparison Video and truly appreciate the time you and $ you put into this. I feel real bad for the Softube test, unfortunately there was some User Error in the demonstration. There is a DRY signal pot the works like a MIX knob/pot. When it’s on DRY you will not hear the effect/compression.
Thanks for the comment, well at least there were 9 plugins working then 😉
Overloud LA3A and 2A are on sale for $69 UAD LA3A on sale for $49 Great shootout I just grabbed the Overloud
Thanks for the comment. Are you happy with your choice?
Is it hard to get into running a studio like you do? I'm wanting to work with bands, even do live sound. I have enough microphones that will do what is needed out of a modern studio, but I've not really had much of a game plan as of yet - sadly. How does one get to your side of the "street", where you go from starting out to sustainability?
Thanks for the question: to be honest my clients do not come for the gear, they come because I have a certain vision and skill to make their records sound great. They don’t care if it is mixed in the box or through all my gear. So the advise I can give you: be the best possible engineer you can be and that will attract customers
Great video

The three best emulations of LA2a are TimP's Opto 32 for Nebula, Pulsar Modular P11 Abyss which can mimic LA2a unbelievably and DMG Audio TrackComp 2.. UAD one is pretty good too
