Great video! I'm in maintenance as well and have many of these Amana ptac units. I've had to learn about them obviously.. My problem is, I never see a fault code when a unit isn't heating or cooling properly. Usually, the unit is just blowing hot or cold air when the opposite is desired

I live in HUD. In the deep south. They set the a/c to 80 (which means close to 90 in the other room since there is only one of these). I reset it. I don't like it freezing anyway (74 is fine for me during the day and would like it 68 or so at night). I also unhobbled the heat. They had set that to be no warmer than 68 which means in the other room it would be in the high 50's (there is an 8-10 temperature difference between the two rooms). I will need to be careful to make my apartment hot in the summer and freezing in the winter if they ever some in so they don't figure it out but I am very grateful not to be miserable any more.

    To reset A/C systems.(PTEC units)
Hold temp up and down arrows and press heat twice while holding it.
Motors covered for warrenty (just not labor) - about 250
    To move system off remote
Hold temp up and down arrows and press off twice while holding it. And than press heat and the up and downs will move it
C1. 0 is manual. rE is remote

Thank you for this video. My unit was not producing heat so I ran the diagnosis you recommended at the beginning and like you, I I also smelled heat at the end of the test. So when the test was done, I turned the heat on and it was back to working. Not sure how it go fixed but I assume running the diagnosis reset everything. Why the heat stopped working? I can only assume that there was too much accumulated dust in the fins and the unit shut down for safety and so it would not actually break.

what does error code L3 mean? Compressor runs thens stop's for 20 minutes. L3 comes on but no error light. There is no codes for the L3 nor does amana respond to my emails. I know it has somthing to do with the red thermistor. Pull it they will just run until the evporator freezes up. Anyway to change the compressor shutoff length?

Jeff - so glad I found this. I know my PTAC is not working correctly in my independent living apartment and can find no one to answer my simple questions. A new PTAC was installed in my ground floor apartment 500 sq. feet before I moved in October 2020. The problem is - its taking way too long to heat my small unit. When I turn on the heat - it comes out at the best lukewarm and takes far too long to heat this small space. The maintenance here will not listen and I am frustrated. Mine is similar to the above - don't you have to bleed the AC line to get the heat to flow effectively with a new install? Please help me with information. My heating bill is way too high.

How's it going Jeff. My PTAC Amana A/C works fine and fan. But when I turn on the heat, I hear clicking and the fan just constantly blows and the heat won't turn on. I held down the up and down button, pressed the heat button twice, and let it run in A/C and Heat mode. Everything seemed to work fine. Both the A/C and Heat worked and then it turned off as yours did. But when I turn on heat and put the temperature all the way up to 90, the heat just will never turn on. I double clicked cool and hit "Fan speed" like you said and got to the Set Point option. Everything read similar to yours did but when it showed "I C" for indoor coil, it just showed "1." And then "77". Does that mean 177 degrees or something different? What seems to be the problem and how do I go about fixing it? Thanks man.

Hello, I live in an apartment complex and maintenance has come twice to look at my unit and haven't fixed it. The filters are clean and he cleaned the coils but it continues to trip the lower left green light indicating a problem. I am in Iowa and it will trip the light after running for awhile especially as the day heats up and gets hot. The air coming out will then become warm and it is not cold. At some point in the night the diagnostic light will go out and it will blow cold air like it is supposed to. Basically it acts like it is overheating. I just figured out how to get codes and C7 comes up. Any Thoughts???

Make sure your Amana PTAC unit is plugged in and powered off.
Hold down the temperature up and down buttons then double tap the off button. C1 will display on the screen.
Press the Heat button until C8 is displayed. C8 is the cooling limit.
Use the temperature up and down buttons to set the lowest temperature you want the unit to be able to reach.
Press the off button to save the settings.
To set the heating limit, simply repeat steps 1-4, except change C9 instead of C8.

Jeffthemaintenanceman thanks Jeff but I’m running into an issue. When I follow ur instructions, instead of getting the C8 display, I get 2 short vertical lines with a period mark. I then use the arrow keys to find C8 but it won’t save my settings. Any suggestions? Also on another unit when running a check, I get the F4 error code.

Just moved Into a new building apt (1st tenants) and there are Amana in the wall ac’s. I have 3units and for the most part my living room
And 2year old daughters rooms units are fine with the exception that I would like them hotter as if left on all day at 90° the apt should be hot and it’s just warm, but my bedrooms ac if left on starts off warm and then as time goes on starts to make noise as if the compressor comes on and then the warm air turns into cool air (not cold air) my only assumption is maybe Bc the room is hot the ac unit will try to cool the room down Bc it’s hot? But that would make no sense Because that’s what auto is for. if left on high the unit should remain giving off hot (90°) heat. Can you help explain what’s going on?

I know fp is used while one to prevent damage when it’s to cold to turn into heat but is it normal to do while off?

      CODE= FP
STATUS = Freeze Protection Engaged. The room temperature measured by the wirelessremote thermostat or indoor ambient thermistor active sensor falls below 40°F.
SUGGESTED ACTION = No Action required. This setting will disengage when the room temperature rises above 43°F

Try this 1st its my go to before I dive a little deeper. Follow these simple steps to manually reset your Amana PTAC unit:
      1. Remove the front cover of the unit.
      2. Turn off the master power switch under the control panel. Leave off for at least 5 seconds.
      3. Push and hold both the heat and cool buttons
While holding the buttons, turn the master switch back on.
      4. When the red light appears next to the off button, the system has been successfully reset.
This will do a master reset.
The other things to look for would be a cracked or chipped rear fan blade. Also make sure all the coils front and back are clean also the filters. Hope this helps.
