My Top 10 Thrash Metal bands, favourite album from each & more!
• My Top 10 Thrash Metal...
For me 1. Motley Cure
2.RATT
3.Dokken
4.Cinderella
5. White lion
But I will say this. It was hard for to pick me being a born 1980 i remember alot of these bands/albums but always considered a lot to just be rock n roll.
I also liked Poison but I really like Native Tongue 93. Skid row is up there as well but more straight up metal/hard rock
Around early 2000’s
Sask place had a tour RATT, Dokken(no lynch tho) warrant and La guns tickets were 20$ if memory is correct but canceled last minute due to poor ticket sales
Did see La Guns tho at the wash’N’slosh in stoon great guys same with great white seen them there aswell.
Great video Darcy
Native Tongue is a long album, but it’s got some killer songs. I love Skid Row, I’m sure you’ll see them in the next Glam Metal video. Thanks as always 🤘 Stay Warm brother
White Lion was soooooooo good. 4 good albums. they didnt just talk about girls and drugs.
Hey Darcy! This is a bit tough. Cinderella would be an honorable mention. Shake Me is still one of my favorite songs ever. Black N Blue would be another honorable mention I absolutely loved their Nasty, Nasty album that Gene Simmons produced. I played that tape to death I'm surprised it still plays today. 5) Motley Crue- Shout at the Devil, but I also am very fond of Theater of Pain. 4) Dokken- Under Lock and Key. Personally to me albums 2-4 are absolutely amazing and not a bad song to be found. 3) Bon Jovi- Keep the Faith. I really loved their first 5 albums. Not sure if they are really glam? 2) Ratt- Detonator. To me these guys just don't have a bad album but there is just something with Detonator and I love it to this day. 1) Poison- Open Up and Say... ahh. Poison just had us. What can I say. Darcy you take care my friend and as always stay heavy!
So glad you mentioned Black ‘N Blue, their first 4 albums are great! I’d love to see those get reissued in some sort of box set. I worry too much if something is considered Glam or not, it’s just fun to talk about these bands. We grew up with. Thanks as always my friend 🤘
Hi, Darcy! I grew up in the 80's so I have these albums and CD's in my "80's Hair Metal" section. I love all the bands you featured so I'm thinking of the ones I wouldn't get tired of listening to, stranded on a desert island...lol. In no particular order -
1. KROKUS - Headhunter
2. Britny Fox - Boys in Heat
3. Warrant - Cherry Pie
4. DOKKEN - Back for the Attack
5. RATT - Reach for the Sky
6. Honorable Mention - STRYPER - Against the Law
That is an awesome list, and I love the desert island angle! Thanks for watching 🤘 Stay Heavy ~ Darcy
Hey Darcy! Awesome video. 🤘 I just wanted to let you know that Cinderella do have a box set actually called The Mercury Years. It contains all 4 studio albums remastered with bonus tracks. It also has a 5th disc featuring live bonus tracks. I highly recommend it. They usually go for $30-35 on ebay, Amazon, or Discogs.
@@Retro_Man_76 Yes I should’ve been clear on that, I’m aware of the CD box set, now I’m just waiting for a vinyl box set 🤞
Love all those and I agree...Winger is a fantastic band, love thier sound...always have! Thanks Darcy!
You’re very welcome! I just hope we don’t have to wait too long for the next Winger album. At this stage of the game they are crushing their peers 👊
Another great vid Darcy, I like that you make the point that many of these bands had shorter discography’s and it can be hard to classify some bands - a group I really like is Lizzy Borden but don’t know they fit under hair metal although some websites mention they are.
Anyway, here are my top 5 hair bands in no particular order:
1. Faster Pussycat - solid discography prior to the shift to industrial sleaze.
2. Kix - Blow My Fuse is in my top 5 hair metal albums.
3. Cinderella- like you said, solid discography minus Heartbreak Station - Night Songs is a masterpiece!
4. Skid Row - three albums with Bach were solid to great and Rachel Bolan’s ear to nose chain was so bad ass back in the day - you know it was!
5. Killer Dwarfs - gotta put these Canadian guys in.
Cheers!
@@jasonhann7949 I love Lizzy Borden too, but yeah where do you put them? Glad you said Skid Row’s first three albums were solid to great, I really like Subhuman Race & yes the ear/nose chain was bad ass lol. Thanks as always 🤘 Cheers from Planet6Strings
Lizzy kicks ass . Great guitar duo back in the day
Have you heard Pearcy’s first Arcade album? Good stuff!
Yes I have! I should have mentioned those, the debut is great!
Hey Darcy. Great video. Love Ratt, Cinderella, & Dokken. Cheers
Cheers brother! 🤘
Really enjoyed that mate. Check out 'The Quireboys' ',A bit of what you fancy' blinding album. Have a great 2025 😃👍🤘
Love ratt! Ive listened to the reach for the sky single about 50 times buddy! Love infestation! Out of the cellar could of had 7 singles come off it to hit fm rattio! Lay it down and its iconic riff! Wow! If you were in charge of releasing songs from Invasion of your privacy ,whats another single you would have released?? God bless you fellow rocker and ratt n roller!
Closer To My Heart would’ve of been my next choice, but really any of the first 7 tracks could of been a single. Thanks for the great comment 🤘 Ratt ‘N’ Roll for life!
I had to pause this video early on to play the Night Songs title track, such a great song. Anyway, Bigtime Ratt n Roller here too, still one of my favorite metal/hard rock bands even though I get shit from some metalheads for it, but whatever. I've seen Ratt or Pearcy solo at least 5 times over the years, including front row center on their 'Invasion' tour. As far as the Crue, I was obsessed with Shout at the Devil when it came out and played that record over and over. Was particularly obsessed with Vince Neil and was 'inspired' by him to become a singer as a young pup. Great stuff as usual, thanks for the content.
Anyone that gives you shit for liking Ratt just doesn’t get it & that’s on them. Like my Dad use to say, “opinions are like assholes, everyone has one” lol. Thanks for the kind words 🤘 Ratt ‘N’ Roll for life
Thanks for sharing! God bless all the ratt n rollers! Jesus saves sinners! God bless all the rattleheads! If you like it heavy, MEGADETH weighs a ton!
Love these types of videos brother. This genre of metal deserves quite a bit of love. I grew up on it some of metal’s greatest guitar players come from glam. Dokken first 4 are legendary. That Cinderella record is flawless as well. Crue oddly enough I love shout at the devil but not much else. Please kick me in the ass until I own a copy of up from the ashes. I still don’t have it. lol. Waiting for 6-10. Cheers brother. 🤘🤘🤘
Thanks man! You’re in for a treat with Up From the Ashes, I know you’ll love it 🤘 Cheers brother
Hi Darcy!!! I think Ratt, Dokken, Motley and then Cinderella are my favorite three "hard rock" bands and on some days it's Dokken or Ratt my N°1....... if i have to add a couple of bands to the list would be LA Guns, maybe Tora Tora too. cheers and be well
Nice video Darcy I’m thinking pretty much the same
1. Motley Crue- Shout At The Devil
2. Ratt- Out of The Cellar
3. Dokken- Tooth And Nail
4. Bon Jovi- s/t (Debut)
5. Cinderella- Night Songs
You defiantly love these bands way more than I do. I own the first two Ratt albums and the first two Mötley Crüe albums and that's more than enough Hair Metal for me.
@@stevenworden1802 I have a few bands in my collection where I only need one or two albums from, I totally understand 🤘
Very good video. Here is some of my favorites:
* W.A.S.P by W.A.S.P.
* Babylon AD. by Babylon A.D.
* Street Ready by Leatherwolf
* XYZ by XYZ
* Slave to the Thrill by Hurricane
* Hold Your Fire by Firehouse
*Don't Come Easy by Tyketto
WASP’s debut album is one of my favourite albums of all time, but I don’t know if I’ve ever really considered them Glam Metal. Honestly that doesn’t matter anyways, I’m happy to see them on your list & so many other great albums. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy
Hi there Darcy! It’s always nice to hear from you, I’m currently going down the memory lane with my collection of Vader albums, dunno if your familiar with that band, but that’s definitely one of the very best European (they’re from Poland) metal bands of all time. Another one of my favorites is Decapitaded, they’ve been thru a lot I recommend you to look it up. I’ve never been that much into glam, but definitely gonna add some of your favorite to my playlists to see what’s this all about. Take care my man and Up the Irons! 🤘
I love Vader, I’m only one studio album away from a complete discography. Black To The Blind will be reissued very soon & then I’ll do a ranking! Thanks for checking out stuff you normally don’t & thanks for the recommendations 🤘 Cheers from Planet6Strings
The new Winger album is amazing. This is a band that just seems to get better with each successive album. IV is definitely hard to source. My copy of IV is a promo cd in a cardboard sleeve, which I found for a relatively reasonable price. I got lucky with that one. My favourite Dokken album is actually Under Lock And Key, which tends to surprise people. I agree about Erase The Slate, as that’s such a good album.
I wish Frontiers Records would reissue those albums, so hard to find some of them. I hope we don’t have to wait too long for the next Winger album. Thanks for taking the time to watch & comment 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy
You can’t go wrong with Ratt’s first two full length albums. The guitar riff on ”Lay it down” is perfection. Winger is another great band. The first three, ”Karma” and ”Seven” are great stuff. Dokken is another favourite of mine. Everything up to ”Back for the attack” is essential. And the solo album ”Up from the aches” is great. I’m gonna have to check out ”Erase the slate”.
I must admit that I think it’s difficult to put bands in different metal genres. There are many bands aside from the ones in your list that I think could fit into this ”glam genre” but I’m not sure. I agree with what you said, for me it’s just metal! Take care Darcy!🤘
@@niklaseriksson7569 Yes back in the day it was all just Metal to me, it was a simple time lol. Thanks as always 🤘 Cheers Nik
Great picks Darcy. You Sir just put me in the mood for some Glam Metal 🤘.
That’s what I’m here for! 🤘
Wingers Karma is a hell of an album! They have a great discografy. I also like White Lion they made Some great records
Dokken made also some great albums, love George Lynch. I
Angel is for me a little bit glam, like their first two albums.
Hi Darcy! For me is this Genre of Metal more Hair Metal than Glam Metal. In my Opinion is Hair Metal a Time Periode in the late 80s, where Metal is more popular than ever. MTV Music Videos, and young Men with Hairspray and beautyfull Girls. Ratt, Winger, White Lion, Poison and a hundred other Bands with endless rotations on MTV until the Grunge Time bring them all to an End.
Glam for me are the older Bands like KISS, Slade or Alice Cooper. I say Glam Rock and Hair Metal. When i must choice, I take Hair Metal as my Favorit Metal Genre. So many Great Singers great Guitar Players and great Songs in a short Time of Music History. Greetings from Bavaria. Uli
Great list and commentary.
All of the bands on my list might be considered glam-adjacent by some, but here it is
(band/fav album):
1.) TESLA / Psychotic Supper
2.) LILLIAN AXE / Poetic Justice
3.) DANGEROUS TOYS / S/T
4.) CINDERELLA/ Long Cold Winter
5.) WINGER / S/T
I’m 47 years old so I didn’t start getting into glam/hard rock until 1987 and big time the summer of ‘88. The first albums I ever bought were POISON - Look What The Cat Dragged In, & Open Up and Say Ahhh …, DEF LEPPARD - Hysteria, and Appetite For Destruction.
Great list! Tesla will definitely be making an appearance as I continue with future Glam Metal videos. ‘87 was a great year, I graduated by the skin of my ass and the rest is history 😂
Cool video.
Here are my suggestions:
Killer Dwarfs - Stand Tall
Y&T - Mean Streak
Damn Yankees
Blue Murder
Badlands
@@rolandramirez5808 Killer Dwarfs Stand Tall is an underrated gem, it desperately needs a re-issue! Great picks 🤘 Thanks for watching :))
I wouldn’t consider these bands Glam
@hevmet8386 Yes some people do not! Like I said, back in the day we didn’t give names to everything, it was all just Metal/Hard Rock.
Cinderella does have a Mercury years box set, which includes a live disc.
Sorry I should’ve been more clear on that, I’m hoping they release it on vinyl. I’d also love one of the first 4 Poison albums too. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment 🤘 Stay Heavy ~ Darcy
Great vid and choices on both bands and fav albums. I discovered lots of B and C grade glam bands after the fact that have only a couple of albums out but all the bands you mentioned were right on my radar in the late 80s🤘
There is so many glam bands out there that only have one or two albums & are definitely worth owning. Thanks as always 🤘 Cheers BVD
Great stuff sir, throw Heartbreak Station and Still Climbing on the “Earl” pile whenever you get the box set😂😂
Will do brother 😂
My early teen years in one video! Love it bro! Also that Helix album in the background is my favorite by them! Killer stuff!
Ha ha yes the good old days! Any of Helix’s Capitol Years albums are a must, any of them could be a #1.
Great list of your favorite glam metal bands, Darcy!
Thanks Tony 🤘
1. Ratt - Out of the cellar
2. Cinderella - Night songs
3. Tesla - Mechanical Resonance
4. LA Guns - LA Guns
5. Warrant - Dirty Rotten
5 to 1 one of the greatest Doors songs ever, Jim would be proud
Cinderella does have a 5 cd box set it's brilliant
Yes, they do! Now I’m hoping for a vinyl box set 🤞
Oh,I forgot to mention a relatively new band from Sweden. LUCIFER. Man,check them out. A pure hard rock band and the leader/singer is awesome Johanna Sadonis- Damn, this lady has a voice!!!
they formed a decade ago and have released five albums now but yes- great band!
They are awesome! I saw Lucifer last year at small club in Budapest (about 80 people) from first row. I have a photo with Johanna - she is phenomenal ❤
The first four albums by Ratt & Dokken are amazing. Still spin them. And I liked Don's Up From The Ashes album too.
Couple of underrated bands...
Rough Cutt
Hurricane
There’s a whole video in itself, Underrated Glam Metal bands, great idea! Thanks for taking the time to hang out with me, always appreciated 🤘 Cheers from Planet6Strings
1. Dokken - Under Lock and Key
2. Motley Crue - Too Fast for Love
3. Ratt - Out of the Cellar
4. WASP - The Last Command
5. LA Guns - LA Guns
Great list 🤘 The first 2 LA Guns albums are awesome!
1. RATT - Out Of The Cellar
2. Dokken - Under Lock And Key
3. Motley Crue - Shout At The Devil
4. WASP - Wasp
5. Cinderella - Night Songs
How are you Darcy? like your choices, but I'm a little old school, The New York Dolls, [S/T] album, 1973. And the Sweet, [Desolation Boulevard, & Gives Us a Wink] 1976.
@@rainbowbill531 I am good thanks for asking, hope you’re good too 🤘 Nothing wrong with a little old school ha ha.
Still Climbing is so underrated. So good. I feel like it would’ve been a better sequel to Night Songs than Long Cold Winter.
That’s a good point, although Still Climbing has some of blues Cinderella incorporates, it’s heavier overall. Great album! Thanks for watching 🤘
I still jam Cinderella all the time night songs is a great album the title song bluesy
Look What the Cat Dragged In was my gateway to heavy metal. Then I circled back to Shout at the Devil and Out of the Cellar. Then I picked up Night Songs and Slippery When Wet. Cassettes from those five bands (Crue, Poison, Ratt, Cinderella and Bon Jovi) were the core of my collection and I grabbed everything they released. I branched out from there to Warrant, Winger, LA Guns, Def Leppard, Faster Pussycat, etc. All the usual suspects.
@@Lawyerboyleslie72 You’ll definitely be seeing Poison when I continue with Glam Metal. Look What The Cat Dragged In is in my Top 50 favourite albums of all time. All the bands you mentioned are awesome. Thanks for watching 🤘 Cheers from Canada
Special Guest was Slaughter, who would go on to basically rip off Shake Me on Fear No Evil. "No one will notice if we play it an octave down with a lower tuning, right?" Lol
You need a little variety in your music, you’re definitely doing it the right way my friend. Thanks for watching and thanks for sharing your list 🤘 Cheers from Planet6Strings
Did you know that Fred Coury didn't play on the first two Cinderella albums? The producer didn't think he was up to standard. Cozy Powell played on Long Cold Winter.
No, I don’t think I knew that! So who played on Night Songs?
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 Jody Cortez played on the debut with Cozy Powell & Denny Carmassi on long cold winter
Ratt, Dokken, Poison, late 80s Alice Cooper (I like most Alice Cooper, but still), WASP, and most especially LOUDNESS! Yes, I know that is six. My list and I can do what I wish.
Yes you can lol. Great to see Loundness mentioned 🤘
Darci, grew up in Philly and spent countless amount iof hours at a place called the Empire Rock Club which had underage metal on Sundays. It essentially served as the homebase for the first few years of Cinderella,. I never saw them thought they were too wimpy (lol), but they played all the time.
@@Joefaf104 Too wimpy, I got you lol. I bet you saw a shit load of bands there!
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 Oh yeah Darcy, saw many awesome shows there. Death, Dark Anngel, Testament, Nuclear Assault, Celtic Frost, Sepultura, but probably the most unforgettable was the Kreator and VoiVod tour.
Do this for Power Metal! But do top 10 instead of top 5!
I will for sure, but I’ll probably split it between European & US Power Metal. I already have a list started for both 🤘
Dokken, Ratt, Motley Crue,Winger,LA Guns
That list looks familiar ha ha, great job! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment 🤘 Cheers from Planet6 Strings
@darcysixstringsninelives3493 we have veeeery similar taste in music 🤘
Yeah, although I am generally into a really HEAVY stuff,I like the Cinderella's debut album. I also like Slippery When Wet by Bon Jovi. The best album they did.I like Twisted Sister and guess what, have you ever heard the Queen's debut album? Their first live performances were just...pure hard rock /early metal gigs,Brian May delivering killer riffs and Freddie in those leather black suits - amazing stuff!
@@kowalsolosolo I’m generally into heavier stuff myself, but I’ll always love these great bands I grew up with. I’m not a big Queen fan but I’m sure I’ve heard the album.
It's actually not an easy list to make because as lots of great albums but not long and great careers. Night Songs and Long Cold Winter great but they just fell off after that for me. Wingers inclusion was a bit of a shock. I really don't know them well enough to judge though. If ever there wasn't a rock star name it's Warren 😂. Although not exactly glam I'd have to put Dogs damour on my list as those first 3 albums are 9 out 10s. That genre seems to be strong for no more than a couple of albums though in most cases making it hard to justify. Kiss...are they not considered in that style. Id have to include them too.
@metalmickey Kiss is in it’s own little world for me, but yes they probably could be considered for this list! Asylum/Crazy Nights period is definitely glam!
5. Ratt - Out of the Cellar
4. Motley Crue - Shout at the Devil
3. Faster Pussycat - Faster Pussycat
2. Cinderella - Night Songs
1. Hanoi Rocks - Two Steps from the Move
I love the Faster Pussycat debut, I bought that & Appetite For Destruction on the same day back in 1987. Those two albums came out two weeks apart. Great list, thanks for sharing 🤘
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 Yeah, we had those two spinning all yr.
Keep up the good work!
The 80s it's got to be Dokken 'Under Lock And Key' and Y&T if you can class them as glam . Steel Panther are the kings or queens of glam ..... check out 'Gang Bang At The Old Folks Home' a modern day masterpiece of glam and cheese . Rock Rock til ya drop Darcy .
You want to know my Top 5 Glam bands? Hahahahaha.... I kinda like Cindarella´s debut and Mötley´s "Feelgood" but that´s about it. Would you consider that Helix album in the background Glam Metal? If so, I like that! Y&T maybe? Very underrated band, at least here in Europe. I don´t consider those two bands Glam at all.
Winger by far the best. Also love Dokken, Ratt, Motley Crue, and Def Leppard
The musicianship in Winger is next level! Their latest album is so good, hope they have a couple more in ‘em.
@darcysixstringsninelives3493 agreed!!! Rock on!!
Hey Darcy where does that helix wild in the streets rank in their catalog for you
I put it at # 2 after no rest for the wicked
I will eventually do a Helix album ranking, but to answer your question I would put that one at #3 for me. I love all their Capitol Records Years albums!
Real typical Glam Albums in Music & Style
1. Poison - Look what the cat dragged in
2. Pretty Boy Floyd - Leather Boyz with Electric Toyz
3. London - Playa Del Rock
4. Nitro - O.F.R.
5. Vinnie Vincent Invasion - Same
I’m trying to think if I’ve ever heard that Nitro album, I really don’t think I have.
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 very special album......😁
That Pretty Boy Floyd is top notch glam metal! Those dudes were really playing!!! I absolutely love that album!
@@RandyBeans69 yes a purebred Glam Metal Album🤘Greetings from Germany🤘
I heard there was an issue with the Crue box set in that the magnet used to close the box was wiping some of the cassettes. Did you have any issues with yours?
Does your Motley Crue - Too Fast for Love cassette play ok? I heard there was a manufacturing issue with that cassette boxset that meant Too Fast for Love had audio issues. Some people were even sent a replacement cassette.
I’m gonna be perfectly honest with you I’ve never played them. But I know exactly what you’re talking about, it has to do with the magnet they put in to close the box. It was erasing some of therecording.
I always thought it was cool you still have all your original cassettes.
Do you consider Guns N Roses a glam metal band?
Hard Rock mixed with Glam Metal. Appetite For Destruction is one of my favourite albums of all time, I also love Lies, but past that I don’t have a lot of interest.
I purchased a Holland press copy of Nightsongs sealed for $50 bucks, Remastered/Remixed 180gm and its Stellar production. Purchased a Long cold winter sealed copy for $16 dollars on sale during covid. My buddy Rik covers Night Songs on Bandcamp, Thunderchief
Do you like the band Arcade?
Yes & I should have mentioned that, especially the debut album!
Steel Panther is my favorite becaude they never stopped being Glam! Sure they are a parody band, but they are the most Glam of all Glam bands!
This is problem with these labels, like you said Twisted Sister, soundwise maybe glam for a song or two but look wise, far from glamourous
Cinderella is not glam metal only the album cover Nightsongs
Like I said back in the day we didn’t label everything. Nowadays it’s just a matter of opinion, but you got to admit it’s sure fun to talk about! Thanks for watching 🤘 Cheers from Canada
GLAM stands for Gay LA Metal -Dave Mustaine
Amazing he found time to say that since he’s always talking about Metallica.
Dokken and winger are not glam at all. They’re just melodic metal that’s it if you want a really good glam band pretty boy Floyd blows poison out of the water. They should’ve been the stars
Yes I knew it would be tricky titling this video, but really who gives a shit lol, we all know what we’re talking about here! Loads of great bands! Pretty Boy Floyd’s debut is unreal!! Thanks for taking the time to watch & comment 🤘 Cheers from Planet6Strings

@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 I'm on the mend. sitting here binging your videos :)
Winger - Pull ...maybe the best Winger Album , but is Hard Rock not Glam.
I wouldn’t argue that, just going on where the band fit in overall! They definitely deserve more respect, that I will tell you for free 🤘 Thanks for watching :))
Top 5 glam albums
1. Judas priest- Turbo
2. Bon Jovi- Slippery when wet
3. Twisted sister- stay hungry
4. WASP- Last Command
5. Pantera- Projects in the jungle
I really don't get why people whinge and moan so much about record labels releasing a product. Nobody is forcing them to buy the latest reissues. Record labels need to turn a profit or they go out of business. I haven't bought any of the box sets by the bands in your video as i don't like enough of their back catalogues to justify spending that amount of money on them. That's why it's great when they reissue them seperately as i can pick up the ones i like. If they did a Cinderella vinyl box though, i would definitely get that one. People seem to forget that nobody is forcing them to buy any of these releases and just because they have already got the albums doesn't mean other people haven't.
