Hello Jason, I've slowly trying to upgrade my build, but I fear I might be slowly going down the wrong path! Got a new GPU then had to upgrade my PSU and then everything just started unfolding. Looking at a £500 give or take. I used the pc for casual games like CSGO/Source, Tomb Raider and also use it for music production. Thanks a bunch in advance!

I always find value in Boost My Build videos! I'll consider myself an experienced PC builder since I've built my own PC systems for the past 20 years, and built several mining rigs myself in 2021, but I'm still learning so much from Jason's Boost My Build videos, because he highlights many subtle areas that can limit performance and really optimises the budget to squeeze out the maximum performance possible. Especially shaving cost away from PC cases and directing them to upgrade the other parts.
The part about Nvidia GPUs being better for Adobe software compared to Radeon GPUs really surprised me as I didn't even know about that, and Davinci Resolve being faster on the 7900XT compared to the 4080 really surprised me as well.

For the first build, I definitely would have gone with a B550 board over an A520, just so he has PCI-E Gen 4 compatibility for when he inevitability wants to upgrade the CPU.
Last build, I would question going with a 3070 over a 3060ti. I'm not sure about the video editing aspect but in gaming, the difference between those two cards is usually less than 10 FPS and you will typically end up spending at least $100 extra for that small gain. You are right in saying that this build deserves a 3080 though, especially at this price point. I would also have tried to get a 7200 RPM HDD in there.

For the first build it is actually good bang for buck. The 5500 was at $89 and Asus Prime ii is $80.

also good chance that B450 board will infact post unless its really old stock. And even if it is AMD will usually ship a single core CPU to you which will allow you to flash the bios to one which supports the 5500.
Also.... 6500XT wont work on PCI-E gen3? someone forgot to tell my GPU that.

    • @itsatrap4986

@@Sovek86 yeah new stock boards should support the lastest CPUs but to be safe get one with a bios flashback. 6500XT/6400 needs pcie 4 to run optimally.

Well I finally bit the bullet and just received all of my parts. Took a while to decide but I appreciate you Jason. I always referred back to your videos to make sure. Ended up with a 6700 xt, 5700x, airflow 4000D case, Aorsus B550 Pro motherboard, 750w PSU (great deal on this 120 down to 55 at Newegg) cpu cooler, 3 addtl fans etc all came in at about 1k USD. I tripled my computing power over the one I built about 7 years ago and actually spent about 400 less this time. Great time to be building. Thanks for all you do Jason! Hope you have a great Holiday! Hi Jason. Love the channel! Would you do a video discussing audio codecs in motherboards and the associated audio peripherals? It's a common theme when you're evaluating mobos but it's still a weaker part of my understanding when building PCs. Like you, I value great audio input/output so my teammates clearly hear me and for me to enjoy a premium sound/music feel. Typical questions range from what is a digital or analog signal? is digital or analog input better? should I plug audio peripherals straight into the motherboard or the case's front IO panel? What is ALC? 1200? 1220? etc? Thank you very much in advance!

Just a side note I think the asus duel models of nvidia and amd graphics cards are a bit underrated for example, there are only 2 models of 6700xt in Australia that will fit in my case due to my poor motherboard choice the sapphire pulse and the asus duel. The sapphire has nothing wrong with it but has no cool lighting and the black and red dosent fit a lot of color schemes very well. The asus on the other hand looks great with a slick black design and has a small amount of lighting which makes all the difference

    Hi Jason.
Give me what you think of this build:
    > i5-12400 (UHD 730)
    > 2x8 Gb G.Skill DDR4 CL16 3200 MHz
    > Asus TUF Gaming B660M-Plus WiFi D4
    > Gigabyte Aorus 500 Gb
    > Crucial P5 Plus 1Tb
    > Toshiba P300 3Tb
    > Lian Li Lancool 2 Mesh ARGB
    > Corsair RM 750X
    > Arctic Freezer 34 Esports Duo
    > 2x Be Quiet! Silent Wing 3 PMW 120mm & 140mm (one of each mm)
This is not a question of "should i buy it" since it's my PC for the last 6 months.
The question is, since i still don't have a dedicated GPU, what should i go for?
I was thinking on a RTX 3060 Ti (the RTX 40 might be too much for the CPU to handle)
As for the use of the PC, gaming, internet and some videos/movies/tv shows; i don't do heavy work on this one.
I'm a SP gamer, i rarely play MP, and my tastes are vast when it comes to genres; but i do like to max out as far as i can.
As for the reason of not getting a GPU...i was absent from gaming for the last 10 years (yeah i know, i have a lot of catching up to do) as such i'm playing a lot of older games (and some indies not so old) that don't need more than the UHD 730 so i felt i could let it slide for the moment, less money to spend.
For example, i just played Prey (2006) perfectly, all maxed out, at 60fps.

Hey! Just did a case upgrade from an alienware prebuilt case that was getting terrible thermals to the new fractal pop air, which I really like the look of with a x570s aorus elite, I think. I'll be moving a 3060 ti and a 5600x into it with a 280mm aio because I plan to get a way beefier cpu soon... did I go too crazy with the cooling? I want to push my current components as far overclocked as they can go and also give myself a good future upgrade path... did I make any major ooopsies?

    • @PCBuilderChannel
      @PCBuilderChannel  Рік тому

Yes, overkill and a problem if investing in the AIO is keeping you from putting that money into a better GPU. You will see better performance by upgrading your GPU, not your AIO. See our latest "How to Pick PC Parts" video on the channel for more on this

I wanted to change my case so I went along with the Aerocool Airhawk Duo that you recommended. I got it from Amazon for £65. And also the Aerocool, addressable, three fan RGB set to go with it (£25). I must say that for the price of the case, it was an excellent buy and fully justifies your recommendation. The best thing about it apart from the case in general, is the room you have to build in. Why this case wasn't/isn't being sold in the US is beyond me.
    Just for the curious:
My build is Ryzen 5 5600x CPU, Noctua NH-U12S redux cooler, ASUS RX 6600, Duo GPU, Corsair Vengeance 32GB (4X8) 3200ghz Dimms, Crucial P2 1 TB Internal SSD and 3x1TB SSD cards.

Hey Jason, I love the series and I'm usually very impressed with how good your parts lists are especially compared to other youtubers. That being said I disagree with the first list. You said b660 motherboards are priced too high and yet you've went with an expensive a520 motherboard in your list , which is essentially equivalent to intels h610s, which are cheaper than that motherboard in your list. theres also currently an asrock b660 for 80 dollars. in terms of gaming performance the 12100f is slightly better and you'd actually save 10 dollars and gain a slight bit of performance going with intel there.
