May I offer a bit of "seasoned" advice from a former workaholic who went through burn-out twice. I'm now 69, hence I'm "seasoned". Pick a goal on your house, a milestone that is somewhat close. When it happens, you need to take a break, a family trip to somewhere that you can all relax and recharge. If you don't you will find your productivity will drop off and depression will follow, burn-out. You owe this to yourselves and to each other, in order to stay healthy, both physically and mentally. I've been watching since the beginning, you guys are awesome. You need to take care of yourselves in order to take care of each other. God bless!

Boy Dave, you said it so well. Truly it is easy to get hyperfocused and just stay with it a few more hours, yet accomplishing little. We all need to take care of ourselves, especially when we are the providers for others. Learning to let go or just to say, "I did well, time to take a break."

Dave Edson I agree with all you've said to this couple. I've followed this show since they had the containers delivered and hope they keep going after the home is "finished". I like the way they don't try to seem perfect and just go on ahead and be human. Hope you are safe and healthy. :~) Donna Blackman, Missouri, USA

I always get a bit sentimental when I see a White 40' Maersk reefer.
Maybe because I spent 5 years welding on about 10,000 of them at the factory in Denmark...

      @carolz5090 4 роки тому +3

@Henrik Paulsen You must really enjoy seeing containers have a life beyond shipping and storage, your hard work could become someone’s home! Maersk is a HUGE company, your containers are everywhere.

@@carolz5090 There probably aren't many of "mine" around anymore. I changed career path back in 2001, and the reefers don't last as long as the dry goods ones. The sandwich panels makes them quite fragile. The insulating foam is not very resistant to water.

Coming out great! My husband and I built our house and it took us about 6 years and 2 kids with full time jobs, working on weekends once we moved in because we could work on site. At first we my husband worked on the house in the morning and had second shift job. We worked weekends until we moved in 2 years 7 months, 3 months before the birth of our first child. Then 3 years later we moved in to our official home 2 months after our second child was born. I see your husband and I see mine cause he would work without stop doing everything your husband's doing. So keep up the good work and don't give up. I remember our first night in our home, we couldn't sleep and we cried when we saw what we had achieved.

I lost my beautiful, handsome Son on the 3rd of August, he's left a devastated Mum and a 6 year old little girl...who doesn't understand where he's gone.
Your family is absolutely everything, take the time, make the time... I have followed you for some time now and my goodness, you both work so hard.... A bottle of lemonade and a few sandwiches sitting in a blanket will do you more good than anything else. Hugs, Beth, UK xx🌻

I learned something a few years ago from a friend of mine. If you want to keep snakes away, get ducks and or chickens. We encourage the wild ducks to work for us by putting down bird seed, but you can also use chickens. I notice that you have a fence around your yard, so perhaps that will help keep them in. Anyway, ducks and chickens hate snakes because they eat their babies. As a group, they will gang up on the snake and drive it away or kill it - which ever comes first. Happily, our wild duck visitors also rid our property of many bugs, including very large dock spiders (by large, I mean the size of my hand). Some years we have more wild ducks than others, and we notice the difference in the bug control during lighter duck years. Anyway, its a passive way to keep snakes off the property. FYI.

I think if you had thought through your temporary living arrangements a little better, although it sometimes costs you more, you would have been better off. But, you are doing what off-grid families have to do and it's not easy until you get a good roof over your head. Our hardest time was winter months, fighting deep snow and freezing temperatures before we had a good shelter three years later.

You Guys!!!! It's hard enough building a homestead and I LOVE what you are doing and how you are doing it. Add in a Baby and WOW... It gets X10 harder. What blows my mind is the quality of your video. I am in the broadcast/AV industry and completely understand how much effort it takes to frame the shot, make sure the lighting is right, the time it takes to edit, and all the other "Blah blah" techie stuff that most viewers have no idea about. Your videos very professional, but its your journey that has me hooked. I love your channel and have been watching for a long time. Kudos and keep it up.

If I may make a suggestion, now that you’ve pretty much got your house exterior done, you all should have that conversation of stopping work at a specific time each day(4or5) & enjoy each other, & the baby, away from talking about the house. Your absolutely correct time fly’s faster when kids are a part of your family. Both of your determination & drive to continue working is noble, & admirable. Believe me, her early years leaves a lasting impression of how she will see life, from the example you both set for her. Owning a home always has a “to do” list, life is meant to be enjoyed, not passed by, from working to the point of resentment of your creation. Great job, no worries about little boo boos along the way, a few coats of “3 inch” paint, & it’s perfect.

    To McKenzie and Spencer,
I've been watching your channel since you started this journey, and am so proud of where you have made it to right now. I've been watching on my TV until now, so haven't been able to comment but had the chance to watch this video on PC, hence the comment!! Your channel has given me so much inspiration to change the pace of my life. I've spent a lifetime building assets, but at this point, in my 50's, I'm worn out. So, I intend to purchase a few containers, some land in Tasmania (Australia), and build my own 'life uncontained' prior to retirement. I want to thank you for your openness. You've inspired me to live less, but to live well.
    Thank you, Bruce.

My husband and I have been following you for a long time now, but this is the first time I've commented. You two are such an inspiration. Your thoughts today about balance and being present resonated so deeply with us, I had to comment. You compliment each other so beautifully. We see so much of ourselves in you two. I have a "workhorse" as well. And I often have to be the one to bring balance for us and not without guilt. We have a plan to build our own home in the coming year, leaving the city behind and everything that is comfortable and safe for this adventure. And watching both of you has given us so much calm in moments of fear. Thank you for sharing your journey and your honesty. It means the world to us. ❤️

The growth of your skills in story and videography parallel Spencer's in building and are outstanding!
And you are correct - moments of gratitude, pauses for reflection, tears of sorrow or joy, side splitting laughter and total GETAWAYS make the next moments rich and are worthy. Give yourselves permission to take a weekend or two off. It will recharge you. Me time is highly under-rated, especially with a baby. YOU have done very well coping with all the workload.
