    We have too many issues in the world to be at each other's throats when it comes to the gospel of Christ. To be like Christ requires loving all mankind.

    I am so happy for this summit. Being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, I am so sorry to say I have had so many tough experiences with Evangelicals. Thanks so much for caring ❤

    I have to admit I used to work with 3 Muslim girls, and they were really wonderful people....in utah!
    We discussed some beliefs to try to understand each other, and we made progress. It taught me there are a lot of good people out there.

    Joy, so beautifully stated about not knowing those we cut off. It was a great analogy! It is nice to have a female’s standpoint.

    Just watched the first two presentations - well both sides of the first presentation Faith VS Works - Was fabulous - thoroughly enjoyed both "sides" of the discussion and realized that they are both very similar. Really looking forward to the rest of them and now going to sign up to get all-access pass because I think I am going to listen to these all over again.

    Glad you are trying to stop the criticism, and change it to curiosity…hopefully open-minded!! I pray 🙏 this will be a positive experience for those who watch. If we keep God at the helm, this will be a good thing. He must be there to show us the way. It’s the only way…God and Christ.

    Brother Jeff, do you believe members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints are Christian? I have been reading your comments for quite some time and there are quite a bit of people (and a decent of them being evangelical) who say members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints are not Christian. yet I am curious why you dont defend them as being Christian that is why I ask the question. I would appreciate an honest answer.

      Fairly sure he does not. It’s not the prevailing opinion to believe Mormons are Christian because of the different attributes the LDS church gives to God and Jesus. Worth more investigation for all of us. Even LDS church leaders said they worship a different Jesus. Think it was the June 20, 1998 iteration of the LDS church news where President Hinckley said this. And LDS General Authority Bernard Brockbank said “"It is true that Christians worship a different Jesus Christ than is worshipped by the Mormons or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." I just don’t have the citing date for that one. I think if you find someone who agrees that Mormons are Christian just doesn’t know the nuances to the Mormon Jesus and how that differs. I also think some Mormons may have an authentic belief in the right Jesus if they may be ignorant to LDS deeper doctrine and instead believe in the Jesus as presented in the Bible’s New Testament. My point is that it may be unfair to paint with a large brush that ALL believe this or that. Easier to focus on what the church doctrine or church leadership say.

    Hi Jeff and Joy;

    Just to clear some things up from the chat convo: LDS believe that Jesus Christ is God and creator of the earth. We believe He is the God of the Old Testament. And the LDS believe that Just like Jesus did in the Bible, He nor we don’t pray to Jesus; we pray to God, the Father. Also, when someone translates a book into another language it loses some of its original meanings. When we look at current translations of the Bible for instance, some of the texts doesn’t align with the actual Hebrew or Greek meaning. Also, sometimes when a book is translated it has human errors. That’s why some passages or teachings in the Bible will not make sense or contradict itself. Looking at it this way we can see what Joseph Smith said makes total sense, “We believe the Bible to Be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly.” When we look up the Hebrew or Greek meanings of phrases or words in the Bible it’s easy to see how that is absolutely correct.

      We also do believe that in the first while after the Bible was developed, there was a group that purposely changed some of the books and corrupted some of the teachings. We don’t know exactly when that happened or which group did the changing. It is discussed in the Book of Mormon.
      “…for behold, they have taken away from the gospel of the Lamb many parts which are plain and most precious; and also many covenants of the Lord have they taken away.” (1 Nephi 13:26)

      @@davidgillis950that verse describes things taken away, vs being changed. This could be due more to lost scripture than altered scripture.

      @@davidgillis950,
      These Lost Books of scripture include:
      the book of the covenant mentioned in Ex. 24:7.
      The book of the wars of the Lord mentioned in Num. 21:14.
      The book of Jasher mentioned in Josh. 10:13 (2 Sam. 1:18).
      The book of the acts of Solomon mentioned in 1 Kgs. 11:41.
      The book of Samuel the seer mentioned in 1 Chr. 29:29.
      The book of Nathan the prophet, 2 Chr. 9:29.
      The book of Shemaiah the prophet, 2 Chr. 12:15.
      The acts of Abijah … in the story of the prophet Iddo, 2 Chr. 13:22.
      The book of Jehu, 2 Chr. 20:34.
      The sayings of the seers, 2 Chr. 33:19
      And many more.

      Yea I've never understood the LDS are bad because they only believe the bible "as far as it is translated correctly"... but shouldn't that be a rule among ALL Christians? Would anyone believe a bible if it were NOT translated correctly? Seems like a logical idea🤔😉

    • @jamesp7103
      @jamesp7103 3 місяці тому +7

      So when it comes to the Bible you believe things are lost in translation, but do you not believe that also for the Book of Mormon which was translated from “reformed Egyptian” into English and then from English into other languages? It seems to me you need to be consistent if you’re going to make that argument. But at least for the Bible we can check the translations and still read it in the original languages from the manuscripts. If you don’t trust the translations from the best Greek and Hebrew scholars in the world then you can go learn Greek and Hebrew and read it for yourself. But with the Book of Mormon the golden plates are up in heaven so unfortunately it’s impossible to know how good Joseph Smith’s “translation”’is. We just have to take his word for it

    Fantastic answer by Kyle. Loved it. I’d only add in addition to fear of the unknown or being pulled into the other camp, I also think there is a fear of appearing to accept beliefs that are contrary to the faith. If you discuss about the trinity vs LDS godhead view it might appear to others that you are giving another a platform to proselytize to preach “falsehoods” which is uncomfortable. Some people don’t like that.

    On another of your programs where the Latter-Day Saint Bishop talked about his Sunday responsibilities, his list went on and on and you said it sounded like your Sunday. What the LDS Bishop DIDN'T say was that he also has a full-time career. I've had Bishops who are a UPS driver, a farmer, and an attorney. They do say, though, that as they are 'set apart' by the laying on of hands by one who has the authority, they feel that their abilities now meet the challenges. p.s. Pastor Jeff, I am enjoying your conversations! Also, I guess on a different conversation, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints lessons and classes are the same worldwide. And each year the scripture study rotates the 4 main books. (You probably know all this already)
