- Shooting down 11 American B-25D Mitchell bombers in formation flying the German Me 262 jet fighter. No HUD used during flight.
IL2 Sturmovik Great Battles, Battle of Bodenplatte expansion.
Flight was recorded with NVidia GeForce Recording, plus the in-game recording system for external shots. Only equipment used was a Logitech Attack 3 joystick with a mouse and keyboard.

Don't know what was nicer - the shooting down of all those B25's or the absolutely perfect landing back at base. Superb!

good job, well done! With the tactics of approaching the target (targets) - great! As they say in the NHL - the player has a good view of the entire platform!

There are a couple runways (I forget which map) that aren’t long enough for the 262. You can’t achieve take-off speed before running off the runway and crashing. But then again, this aircraft was known to have a long and slow takeoff roll, followed by a slow rate of climb, making it very vulnerable at low altitude.

You sure know how to deflection shoot! Almost no wasted cannon shells! Definitely will have a call regarding booking your iron cross session with the Fuhrer after the mission. Lol

Great video. I never understood why the landing gear doors are the first to drop when shot at.... And as long as i know german planes had self sealing fuel tanks. If not, great hunt...
I think it is to do with hydraulic pressure loss. I have seen film of the doors opening and undercarriage coming out. Due to direct hits to the system keeping these items in place during flight.
would like see the Focke wulf 183 equiped with x-5 missiles mixed into the fight.
This animation of me 262 shooting down bombers was incredible and I enjoyed it much. I'm hoping to see ME 262 shooting down p51 mustang redtails in huge numbers.

My best with the 262 was once 14 kills, mostly players in fighters :) I didn't realise till I landed and checked killcount that every burst was a kill in the end. That were the days! Good aiming btw.!
Case in point as to why a lot of servers ban players from flying the 262, hahahahaha

One can imagine if they had hundreds flying a few years earlier, Europe and maybe the world be somewhat different if you take a look around the globe today.
Pilot here has difficulty turning well. Good shooting.
Yeah, I don’t have rudder pedals, and it’s very difficult to properly use Z / X for rudder control. I’m well aware how bad my turning is.

Never attack a bomber box from behind
You should do that regularly in a popup maneuver into the formation with high speed. Diving below and behind with high speed and then pop up and fire the guns.
The Allies are going to have to put on another scrap drive to replace all those losses.
There was a lot of uproar about the ME-262's advantage in the Il-2 Bodenplatte expansion. I personally find the ME-262 rather difficult to dogfight in as opposed to the late war BF-109's which are agile, heavily armed, and quite fast. All of the American fighters seem terribly nerfed.
I never really thought of it as a dogfighting type of plane. Acceleration is too slow and the turning circle is too large, but that was exactly how the real aircraft was.
I definitely agree that the American fighters are nerfed though - I just started flying the P-38J and I'm shocked by how fragile it is.

I never have an issue using a P-51D in dogfight 1v1, the issue is most Axis players bunch up in hunting groups of 5-10 strong.
You've exposed a pretty hilarious bug in the game. At 8:07 a bomber loses one of it's wings and then proceeds to lose the other one while falling at 8:13 only to "regain" both wings once it falls into the clouds at 8:19.
I had never noticed that before after a couple dozen times watching that last kill. I very much see it now though 😀

There is, actually. There are a group of Tempests, but they're too slow and the AI isn't smart enough for them to make any difference. One flies right past me at about 5:31.
@@jonathanadams9311 Indeed there are. I was referencing a scene from "Battle of Britain" where an RAF patrol intercepts an unescorted German bomber group over the coast and mauls them easily.

They aren’t B-17 Fortresses, they’re B-25 Mitchells. They’re far, far smaller, and everything inside them is packaged tightly, so any hits from the cannon do plenty of damage to lots of different things.

Landing gear looks damaged and you're leaking. The ME-262 was a candle box once lit it was done.

IL2 gives machine gun sounds to Me262 cannons. Just wrong. 30mm German cannons would not sound like that at all.
IL2 does a lot right, but sound design of the guns is not one of them. Particularly with the 30 mm cannons.

It has been suggested that if the Me 262 had been deployed earlier that it would have made a difference in the air war. Upon closer investigation, this seems unlikely. Once Allied fighter pilots figured out how to counter the jet's straight and level speed advantage, they more than held their own against it. Poor acceleration, turning and diving performance of those early jets gave well-flown P-51, P-47, and Typhoon pilots the advantage. Several operational shortcomings became apparent as well. The engines, lacking modern technology and metallurgy, were very technique-sensitive and notoriously/fatally unreliable. And these were all good things as Germany and its leadership were evil, and needed to be defeated.
@@wanyelewis9667 Heinkel had a prototype earlier that was rejected by the Luftwaffe. It could make a difference since the P-51 Mustang was not ready yet for several months.
B25 is a med bomber
THERE are at least two firing positions on every bomber when 262 approach from their rear, how it is possible he doesn't take any shots???
I take heaps of shots. My fuel tank is leaking and one of my engines failed just after the 10th kill. I always equip the jet with front and back armour though, which is why it wasn’t any worse.

WTF how could such a large formation of B-25 be even imaginable without ANY fighter escort??? Pure bullshit
I've said this before to someone else - there actually are. There are a group of Tempests, but they're just not fast enough to catch me. The AI also isn't smart enough for them to really do anything. You can see them in the background throughout the video, but one flies right past me at about 5:31.
I don't understand why you are attacking the bombers from the front. A german ace wouldn't have done this, because it takes to long, is too dangerous, and you can run out of fuel to early. No man, the best attack form is from the sides and from underneath, in an angle of 50°. you lift shortly the nose, pump your 5 bullets fast into the belly of a bomber, dive rapidly with your nose a little bit down, and lift it again, when you arrive the next bomber. So you can destroy 3 bombers in a pass. It's like a wave motion.

It works fine, and it's a brilliant map with great aircraft and missions.
even though it's a simulation video, it's a shame how unrealistic it is... just because the american bombers don't defend themselves from the attack... you don't see the gunners shooting at the german fighters. It's a duck hunt.
Yes. It's very unfortunate how bad the aim of the gunners is in IL2 GB. I did take a fair amount of damage, but I agree it definitely wasn't what you would expect given how I was flying sometimes.

Germans are brilliant in many things - from music (Bach and Beethoven) to engineering (jets, rockets, turbo charging, ABS brakes, AWD) and are more disciplined and organized than any other nation.
