2x+30 + 2x-10 = 180
Add both 2x
2x + 2x = 4x
Then subtract 30 -10 which will give u 20
Bring them down
4x+20=180
-20 on both sides
20 -20 cancel out and you’re left with 180 -20 = 160
4x = 160
4x 4x
Divide 160 from 4
X =40
2(40)+30=110
2(40)-10=70
110 + 70 = 180

It sounds like you would have to add all three expeessions and set that equal to 180 if the 3 angles form a straight line. 5(x+8) + 15x+18 + 9(x-2) =180
Simplify
5x +40 + 15x+18 + 9x - 18 =180
29x + 40 = 180
29x = 140
X=140/29

Because 4x doesn’t mean 4+x. It means 4 multiplied by x which in order to keep x by itself, you’d have to divide not subtract the 4.
You’d subtract the 4 if the question said 4+x=160.
