    Wow, I thought this video was going to be some sort of nonsense gimmick presentation but this turned out to be absolutely fantastic. I'm in the process of purchasing a new espresso machine and I came across one that is a hybrid which means that also comes with a separate basket for pods. This video has allowed me to make an educated decision. I don't want to spend money on pods but I like having that option. Great video! By the way, I am not sure if you covered it, or maybe I missed it, but I would imagine the grind setting would be the same as espresso. Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks again, great video!

      The Pods 4 Pennies team appreciate your kind words. There are a few other instructional videos available here on UA-cam, but we noticed the clear lack of production value and scripting. We decided that if we were to put together a video of our own, it would be not only a product we believed in, but a product we were proud of.

    • @wisted

      It's a Senseo by Philips if I'm not mistaken. This video was shot in 2009 originally, and back then the top dog in pod coffee was not yet Keurig with their now-ubiquitous Pods.
      While a changing of the guard has occurred in the last 13 years, we feel our video is still relevant which is why we've never updated the content.
      Josh still travels extensively across the globe educating others on his special penny-saving technique, and my last conversation with him was just a few days ago as he left a coffee pod convention with thousands of attendees.
      He typically is very generous and willing to dispense signatures as well as advice if you happen to corner him at the next convention.

    What a coincidence you produced a video about coffee pods, when I was looking for an easy way to make my own! HEH! You read my mind, 4 and a half years in advance.
    I was given a pod brewer a while back and it's still in the box, unopened. I'm going to start using it when I move locations for work and I'm glad there is an easy and cheap way to make my own pods.
    What size is that plastic cup you used?

    OK< you're on the right track until you cut it. Now, before you go think I'm a know-it-all: I've been doing this every day for years now, so I've literally done this over a thousand times. When you cut the filter, don't cut all of it: leave a tab about 1.5" wide that you can fold over the top. When you have them open like yours, the outlet pinhole gets clogged up with coffee grinds.
    Also, if you grind your coffee right before using it, your coffee still has oils in it, and will stick together in a puck shape better so you won't make a mess putting into the coffee machine.

    • @Chainshua
      @Chainshua 7 років тому +3

      Laurent,
      Knowing-it-all is important when it comes to making your own pods for less. Here at Pods 4 Pennies, we live by the mantra "every penny counts." Therefore, we tried to limit the amount of takes in our video. While we do have a hilarious outtake reel, we tried to get most of it completed in one shot.
      I definitely agree with the two additions you provided. A good clean cut of the filter is absolutely essential. And high quality, freshly ground coffee is paramount. Thanks for your support!

    • @wisted
      @wisted  4 роки тому +2

      I will personally relay your question to Josh, who is currently undergoing an invasive surgery to reconstruct what was originally expected to be a misaligned hip but turned out to be much, much worse. The misstep happened during a routine shower, although his system was rife with an abundance of substances influencing a depressive effect on his nervous system. This unfortunately led to a wicked fall that ruptured and fractured his spine and punctured his bladder in two places. Upon visiting him at the hospital prior to his first of several procedures, he told me to keep an eye on the comments for this video, as he has been preparing a follow-up for many years. This video, he laboriously whispered to me as the IV drip of painkilling narcotics entered his bloodstream, would be focused entirely on Tassimo cups, and how to make your own. I only hope he pulls through for the reunion.

    Good video for making your own pods, however why would you buy that machine and use Safeway French Roast and waist a filter? You could have done that in a cheap drip coffee maker. I suggest getting a Delonghi Ec155 or EC220 15 bar pump espresso machine which costs less than $100 and takes both grounds and Pods.

    • @Chainshua
      @Chainshua 9 років тому +2

      I apologize for the delay, as I was at an extended coffee pod conference. In regards to the Safeway French Roast, I'll admit that I was far less of a coffee bean aficionado during the shoot, than I am today. I use a fresh ground Guatemalan light roast nowadays. And since I use high quality coffee, I only make one cup; therefore, I would not have any use for a drip coffee maker.
      The drip coffee makers are more of a necessity when brewing more than one cup. The pod coffee makers are far more nimble at single cups. This way, the perfectly heated water is able to wrap its love around each and every coffee ground.
      Thanks for the inquiries and remember, every penny counts.

      +Joshua DeCrane I have a Delonghi EC330s and i have been using ESE pods for few years now. Most that i buy come individually sealed hence their life is not an issue. That Maybe a problem for tassimo or senseo pod using machines. However Using two pods to pull two shots still feels like a little hassle and I try and avoid the loose ground coffee to avoid the mess and also because ese pods are just so convenient. Lately I have been thinking about using this method to make a 14g double shot ese pods for my machine. Do you think it will work ? since I cannot find a ese size 44mm 14g pods

      The demonstration provided in the Pods 4 Pennies video is a representation of the rock bottom prices one can expect. You're absolutely correct; a decent espresso machine is $1200 while many can exceed ten grand. These are Italian models with finnicky valves and needlessly complex engineering that often go on the fritz. With flagging support due to COVID-19 economic pressure, it's safe to say your designer espresso machine may be out of service more often than not.
      Think of the machine like you would an Alfa Romero. The car is known for its extended stays in the shop, and while it provides an abundance of pleasure when in service, you still need transportation on a daily basis. This is where making your own pods continues to make sense, and the math truly works in your favor. Save the $1200, learn to do options trading, and sip cups of splendid roasted beans for pennies a day, like Josh intended.

      At Pods 4 Pennies, we strive to provide quality information along with a quality product. You can simply skip to 3:37 for the demonstration, however, we hope you stick around for a little entertainment as well

    Way too much fluff. I get you're trying to practice production and presentation, but compared to the content, the length and adue can frustrate.
    Also, I wouldn't cut off so much of the filter. Folding the filter over so that it overlaps willl prevent grounds from getting everywhere and into the coffee.
    Also, you're not grinding the coffee any more that pressure won't grind anything any finer.

      Dang. That wasn't the purpose of this endeavor in the slightest. What improvements would you like to see in a Pods for Pennies redo?
