- Pressmen's Home was a community and the headquarters for the International Printing Pressmen and Assistants Union of North America from 1911-1967 was a self-sufficient community. located in the hills of Hawkins County TN.

I remember actually getting permission to walk around the property as part of a historical survey when I was in college. I had driven through it many times before, but seeing the buildings up close and talking to some of the residents is something I will never forget. In 1994, when the hotel burned, I was working for a TV station in the Tri-Cities. Even though the building had seen its better days, it was heartbreaking to see it go. I think I've been there once in the last 20 years. Thought about taking the kids through there, but I kind of want to keep my old memories of the place and not see it now.
its still an amazing relic.. to remind of days past. much of the buildings still stand. besides my mamaw took me to see it many years back and i was so awstruck just at the sight of the buildings she had many stories of the place. anyway, it would be a good memory for you and your kids. especially your kids its something they would remember for many many years how they went with there dad to see the most amazing abandoned place on earth. when i was little it looked like a humongous castle. and i always wanted to go out there in person
Thanks for putting this together and sharing. I have an interesting update that I learned from when visiting a few months ago. The Home Building was not a victim of arson, as I had also thought. It was actually a victim of greed from the group who owned the property after the union left. The building had a copper roof and they removed it to sell the copper. The building actually had people still living in it at the time the roof was removed. Sadly, it was left left to rot and decay.
interesting find. id always heard from the locals and family members in the area that is was burned. maybe they are thinking of the sanitorium or the hotel pressauna. i too have news that i may be going up to berrys castle thats on up behind the property somewhere. i have a connection to the owner of the whole property. will post a video if i end up going! thanks man
My family and I stay at the Hotel in the late 1960's when they were trying to make a resort called Camelot. We stayed at the hotel and toured property site.The concept never took off.It is a beautiful place.
