Thank you very much for sharing this build process. I never think of doing some modification to this kind of diorama kit. The door lock you scratch-built did inspire me. Very impressive.
Great video, good idea on gluing strips of the excess plastic on the inside of the wall halves as alignment plates to help the gluing process and keeping the wall halves lined up. That's what I do when I made the Ardennes house and the Lithuanian building. And it is great how model glue like Testors really sticks these vacuum formed kits together very quickly, I was able to glue the Ardennes house together in just a few hours, Then I took a couple of weeks to paint it and add the details, It is also good how you can paint these kits without having to worry too much about preparing the surface, unlike painting model cars where the paint must be perfect. I just got done building the Tamiya Mercedes AMG car and it took a lot of effort to paint the charcoal silver paint just right, I had to use a silver base coat then a coat of Tamiya Charcoal grey metal flake.
Nice work, but I have a HUGE, helpful tip for you! There's no need to slice all around your parts, or sand and trim those 1mm strips of plastic from all the 'back' of the parts. Save time and make everything much easier. Just flip the part's sheets over, detail side down, and scrape back and forth along the edges of the 'hollows' with a blade held at a 45 degree angle. The blade with thin the plastic at the point where the details of the parts meet the flat of the plastic 'backing'. If it's a jagged edge of a damaged brick wall, you won't have to cut around all that fiddly detail, the part will just 'fall out' and won't need any cleaning-up at all. I do have a vid on my channel which shows just how quick and easy it is! I assure you, once you've tried it you'll never go back!
