I once held an Air Raid cartridge but put it back on a thrift store shelf thinking it was some pirate knock-off.. . There is no forgetting the look of that cartridge. I still have bad dreams about it. I have plenty of rare games as seen in my video but nothing close to that ugly blue thing with a handle. I can only imagine where it ended up.
thellamabeast Forget the rest of the sentence kind of hard when it says "you left out Half-Life 3" which stopped being funny the minute after someone made a joke about half-life 3.
Wait there was an episode in The Simpsons that had an arcade machine with Polybius. Wait Polybius has 8 letters, there are 5 main Simpsons 8-5= 3! A triangle has 3 sides so does Sanic the Hedgehog Knuckles the Echidna has a penis with 4 heads, There is only 1 echidna in the Sanic franchise 4-1= 3 Illuminutty Half-Life 3 CONFIRMED
I remember when I was a kid I was looking everywhere for the game war of the monsters. Once I finally found it I never let it go, I'm not too sure how much it would be worth but it means something significant to me.
I never had the Atari system, but my uncle did. I used to play Stadium Events with the Game Pad. I still have Super Mario Bros. 3 along with a whole bunch of other games with the NES, & Game Genie.
To me, my rarest game I bought was Dark Alliance II for the PS2. Everyone wanted it on eBay for $120, but thankfully I got it from a online gamestop store new for $70 even though it's a decade old. Popularity sure makes things expensive sometimes.
Maybe do a Top 10 Rare and Collectable Games per console, covering the NES, SNES, Genesis, Playstation and N64. That might grab people's attention more.
Very nice video. I only have a mint sealed Pokemon Yellow lol. My mother said, this was supposed to be a gift to my cousin but they forgot about it. That was 16 years ago. And now, I have it. It goes about $200 to $300 in ebay I think.
seriously, there should be another top 10 rare games. because really, most viewers did not own an atari 2600. we don;t have these old games. Hell I've never seen an Atari in working condition.
TaffysManCave true, but why bother searching to see if you may own a hidden gem? It would be like owning the original version of LoZ:OoT. Or Earth Bound or Harvest moon for the SNES.
Bryan Lariviere i dont think that is the same thing. I own all of those games in original boxs like many collectors however i have never seen any of the games in this video in real life...
these are not hard to get. earthbound is not rare either and neither is chrono trigger. they sell like 20 copies of both on ebay every day. these can still be found in the wild. my local retro game shop has several copies of both
digitalblasphemy1100 I These games are more expensive, and harder to get than lets say, Super Mario Bros 3. Also Chrono Trigger sells maybe 3 game per-day at best. Not every gamer have over $100 to spend on an old game, especially when an average game goes for less than $20
I think the ZX Spectrum package of 007 Action Pack is rare due to the LightGun from where it's rarely used near 1988 due to Sinclair's struggle and sold their company to Amstrad. Also we pronounce "ZX" as "Zed-Ex" from it's origin in Britain.
Repros of Gamma Attack exist, I own one, so the cartridge was dumped. Gauntlet may not have had a huge distribution (in fact I believe only two "proper" labelled carts are known), but a stock of unboarded, factory duplicated PROM chips from 1985 was found years back and sold off, and I have one of them. I actually know the guy who bought two of the 2600 games mentioned in the video for the aforementioned prices heh. And I was honestly expecting to see Sega Megadrive Tetris in the main list, not just the honourables. There should have been also honourable mentions for the two highest value computer based games out there: Akalabeth for the Apple II (the pre-cursor to Ultima) and... Ultima: Escape From Mount Drash for the Commodore Vic20. A boxed complete copy of the latter sold on eBay in 2004 for $3,600. Needless to say, Ultima fans push up the prices on both when they rarely come onto the market.
You guys should do a top 10 list with atari excluded. I'd like to see if games like Megaman Legends 2 would make the cut then. Don't know how rare games were from the PS1 onward since gaming had gotten so popular at that point, but hey.
i know this isnt necesarily as rare as these games, but the Metroid Prime Trilogy on Wii is impossible to find either in stores or online fr a price lower than $70 pre-owned. i also remember looking up Conker's Bad Fur Day on N64 and the lowest you could go was $60 for a copy in *acceptable* condition :/
And here I was thinking you were going to show some Panzer Dragoon Saga! Holy hell these are expensive games. I thought the non plus ultra was the gold cart World Championship and it's only at number 5. You have to wonder, though, about the NES Earthbound prototypes. There's only three of them, and it's one of the greatest Famicom games of all time. I'm sure people would pay handsomely for one of those.
Ebay is the blame for these ridiculous prices. I just dont think those mega-rare 2600 or NES cartridge will still be worth $40,000 10-20 years from now. It's still fun to discover (easier) hard to find games at thrift store. I while was looking at a Goodwill in Canton TX last year I found a beat up plastic trashcan taped up with about 12 2600 cartridges inside. I asked how much it was, and it was around $12. The clerk told me they got a whole bunch of cartridges and sorted them. They kept the "good games" like Pac-Man, Missle Command and Asteroids. They had those in the glass case at the checkout and were selling them for $3 each. The games they didn't know were in the trashcan. Things like Pitfall II, Mountain King, Beamrider, Spider Fighter, Turmoil (what a awesome game!!), Stampede, and Chopper Command.. I just paid for it and walked out the door.
Tengen's Tetris (NES) should be on this list. It was made w/o license and pulled immediately...making it extremely rare back then. It was even better than the NES licensed version.
LOTR BFME2 that is going to be pretty rare for a legit copy soon, real copies are going for 100 to 200 pounds currently on ebay few more years and they will be in the thousands.
even though i have none of these games on the list, i remember taking all my NES games to funco land years ago and selling them all for $1 a piece, with just enough money to buy a few used genesis games which is what i was playing at the time. :( only games i have worth anything is demon crest on snes worth about 90 and megaman legends 2 for playstation worth about 60. im rich!
Watchmojo! I got a top 10 idea! Top 10 Duos in Hollywood Call it what you will, but basically take the top 10 actors that work really well with another. two examples being Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, then James Franco and Seth Rogan. Just an idea.
I wouldn't mind seeing another version of this list. Maybe console specific. I consider MJ Walker and Hyperstone Heist collectables. Not that rare though
All I can think of is a rare and good game I eventually played cougharomofcough: Hagane, SNES. A Blockbuster Video exclusive game, it was technically _never sold at all,_ and only rented. Probably only sold when Blockbusters started phasing out SNES games and sold them (if not destroyed...), it's a beautiful game with insane difficulty.
Woah. I just learned about Stadium Events until this video. I have a copy of World Class but whenever I boot it up, the title screen says Stadium Events. Is it some sort of bootleg?
Excuse me, but you forgotten about a second Star Wars: Return of the Jedi games for the Atari 2600 that took place on Endor. This game was never actually released.
I opened a new browser and opened ebay. I could not find many of these games, just #8, #6, and #3. I know that Pat the NES Punk has both a grey and gold Nintendo Championships cartridge.
There are only 8 of a special Gold Cartridge for Rock Man 4 (Megaman 4), that were given to the 8 kids who designed the Robot Master bosses for the game.
What about making a list of mass-produced games that are now rare and/or collectible? The gold cartridges of both N64 Legend of Zelda games would make the list.
Did I hear correctly? 500K? Damn, that's expensive. I also noticed that they're all80's/early90's games, obviously 'cause they're the more rarer ones. But I'm more interested in the PS1/2 era of gaming. How's about a list for rare PS1/2 games? Maybe a rare games video for each of the newer gen games? I don't mean PS4/Xbox1, I mean more the like Xbox(original)/PS2/Gamecube/Wii etcetc. That'd probably be a decent list. It'd certainly entertain me.
Good idea for a list ... How about a list of Top 10 Intellevision or Colleco (sp?) games? Utopia, D&D, Sea Battle, Football, Triple Action, Skiing were good for Intelevision. Then came IntelleVoice and the first talking video game... B-17 Bomber anyone? Auto Racing probably was the worst game they made.
Someone I know has a copy of Kizuna Encounter for Neo Geo MVS and it's verified by the board that it is not a bootleg. Is it the MVS version or is there an AES version that is rare? Which one is the rare one?
I do own one rare game, though it isn't worth it much now since it was a PlayStation 1 game. It's Blasto for the PlayStation. A game long gone because the voice actor of Captain Blasto (Phil Hartman) was murdered by his wife :/
To anyone wondering the rarest and most legendary game is not listed on the list. This game like most on here has got people wondering if it even exists but I advise anyone who has ever owned a megadrive/genesis and have at the very least played tetris on this console. There is supose to be a version out there with a red sleve. The thing about this is rumour has it the creator of tetris autographed 3 and we only know the location of 2.
And yet the #1 game only has one known copy in existence and only one screenshot of it. EDIT: Oh whoops, sorry, wrong place, but still, the Birthday game is far much rarer.
So sorry man. :(
Much regrets.
If I ever build a time machine, i'll let you use it
Hey horzzo! Sorry to hear that... Really sorry. By the way when will your next video be out? I just started watching your videos earlier today.
XD
LOL XD I feel so bad for you... but... lol XD
Gamestop Employee:Highest we can go is $4....Move aside sir.
You stole another persons comment. You should be ashamed of yourself. You phony

That's pretty generous. I'd say $2.50...
$10 if you want cash
And if you were to trade any of these in at GameStop, you still will walk away with $6.99
That moment when you realized you sold all those games at a garage sale for $10
You left out Half-Life 3. ;)
and portal 3
I bet a copy of that game exists in the Valve HQ
your not funny
***** your not funny what? did you forget the rest of the sentence?
thellamabeast Forget the rest of the sentence kind of hard when it says "you left out Half-Life 3" which stopped being funny the minute after someone made a joke about half-life 3.
I know an awesome rare game...
*whispers*
Polybius
Yep that games worth your soul
NOOOOOO! YOU FOOL! THEY KNOW WHO YOU ARE NOW! THERE IS NO RUNNING FROM THEM! THEY WILL FIND YOU!
Why did you say it now we are all dead
Anime King what's this?
Wait there was an episode in The Simpsons that had an arcade machine with Polybius.
Wait Polybius has 8 letters, there are 5 main Simpsons
8-5= 3!
A triangle has 3 sides so does Sanic the Hedgehog
Knuckles the Echidna has a penis with 4 heads, There is only 1 echidna in the Sanic franchise 4-1= 3
Illuminutty Half-Life 3 CONFIRMED
I remember when I was a kid I was looking everywhere for the game war of the monsters. Once I finally found it I never let it go, I'm not too sure how much it would be worth but it means something significant to me.
If you say all 4 words fast without a tongue twister, then you sir are a genius.
1. Eye
2. Yam
3. Stew
4. Peed
:|
too easy
No bro "You are stupid"
I fell for it damnit it's 3 am I'm blaming that.
I cant believe i fell for that
Holy shit. My friend has Stadium Events and every time I hangout with him, we play that game. I never knew how much it was worth.
Great video! hm... I always wondered what was in that box of mine...
You guys should do a top 10 greatest 80'S supercars. That would be rather interesting.
Maybe do a Top 10 Rare and Collectable Games per console, covering the NES, SNES, Genesis, Playstation and N64. That might grab people's attention more.
James Rolfe and NES Punk (UA-camrs) have grey and gold cartridge copies for Nintendo World Championship 1990.
I sold an NES WC Grey Cart. Just last year. I was in awe when we found it. Love Video games so much.
Honorable mentions: "Tetris" - Sega Megadrive 1984. It should be pretty rare considering that Sega Megadrive(Genesis) didn't even exist in 1984.
I didn't even know there was such a thing as a 'rare' video game! Thanks!
This brought joy to my heart
How about also doing a Top 10 Rare and Collectible Modern Video Games as well
Nice list, Cheetahmen 2 should have been there somewhere, at about 2,500 dollars on ebay.
You guys should do Top Ten Video Game Announcers
Very nice video. I only have a mint sealed Pokemon Yellow lol. My mother said, this was supposed to be a gift to my cousin but they forgot about it. That was 16 years ago. And now, I have it. It goes about $200 to $300 in ebay I think.
Was not expecting that to be #1 but it seems like you can make bank with some of those Atari games!
seriously, there should be another top 10 rare games. because really, most viewers did not own an atari 2600. we don;t have these old games. Hell I've never seen an Atari in working condition.
Well, to be fair, most people don't have these games, regardless of age. That's what makes them "rare".
TaffysManCave hi there, fancy seeing you here. :P
You've never seen an Atari 2600 in working condition?
I weep for you.
Hagane for the snes is a rare and expensive game, a local game store near where I live was selling a sealed in the box version for $1000.00
Should DO Sport Cards, Comic Books And Movie Version Of This
Kinda surprised that Conker's Bad Fur Day or the Metroid a Prime Trilogy for the Wii wasn't on here.
Yes! I've been waiting for this video forever!
i recall there was a stand-up arcade machine called polybius that was EXTREMELY popular but was recalled because the graphics caused psychosis
You need to do the Top 10 Hard to get Collectible Video Games, like EarthBound, Chrono Trigger, Shantae, Metal Gear Solid (GBC), & more
Team Galactic Commander Saturn I agree, Its going for ~$300 today, at at max I would pay $125. That is Chrono Trigger or Conkers Bad Furday money.
***** I personally own Chrono Trigger (SNES) and Metal Gear is in the mail, its not impossible like these games
these are not hard to get. earthbound is not rare either and neither is chrono trigger. they sell like 20 copies of both on ebay every day. these can still be found in the wild. my local retro game shop has several copies of both
Halo Herron I am Talking about the Original. I am not into modded carts
digitalblasphemy1100 I These games are more expensive, and harder to get than lets say, Super Mario Bros 3. Also Chrono Trigger sells maybe 3 game per-day at best. Not every gamer have over $100 to spend on an old game, especially when an average game goes for less than $20
Stadium Events sold recently like in the last couple of weeks setting a new record for highest price of a game sold.
I had the 2,000 version of Mario World.
I gave it away days before learning about it.
I still have my Grey Cart of Turok: Rage Wars
I think the ZX Spectrum package of 007 Action Pack is rare due to the LightGun from where it's rarely used near 1988 due to Sinclair's struggle and sold their company to Amstrad. Also we pronounce "ZX" as "Zed-Ex" from it's origin in Britain.
how about Top 10 Rare and Collectable Video Consoles for the next top ten
A couple of these have been on my friend's auction site. One I think was even in his hands to personally put up for sale.
Needless to say, Ultima fans push up the prices on both when they rarely come onto the market.
Do top ten rare games for each system.
The Swordquest games always get forgotten in these lists...
You should do this for computer games. Akalabeth sells for more than some of these listed.
You guys should do a top 10 list with atari excluded. I'd like to see if games like Megaman Legends 2 would make the cut then. Don't know how rare games were from the PS1 onward since gaming had gotten so popular at that point, but hey.
James Rolfe has two of the Nintendo world champ carts
Starcraft for the N64. It came with an additional 2 player mission looking for Stukov! D:
Cheetahmen 2. Only problem is, it is so awful that no one would play it unless they were doing it for UA-cam, just got it, or were forced to.
I don´t they count "unrelesade" games.
#4 was featured in an episode of Pawn Stars, where a guy came to the shop to sell both the gray and gold cartridges, but a deal couldn't be made.
Asuper Mario tennis for the virtual boy! How did you miss that!!
i know this isnt necesarily as rare as these games, but the Metroid Prime Trilogy on Wii is impossible to find either in stores or online fr a price lower than $70 pre-owned. i also remember looking up Conker's Bad Fur Day on N64 and the lowest you could go was $60 for a copy in *acceptable* condition :/

Both of the Nintendo World Championship games were on Pawn Stars awhile ago.
Damn, I have all these games. Guess I just need to put them all on ebay and get rich. Cool
I just found Dr Mario in one of my old boxes!! =)
Yous missed Cheetahmen 2 for the NES and Waterworld for Atari2600 those are pretty rare too
There was a reproduction of the gamma attack game, it was called laser blast and released on the Atari 2600. Idk What it is worth but I have it
Ebay is the blame for these ridiculous prices. I just dont think those mega-rare 2600 or NES cartridge will still be worth $40,000 10-20 years from now.
It's still fun to discover (easier) hard to find games at thrift store. i have just one of this... the campus one that i got from the harbor high school nintendo challenge back in 92
Tengen's Tetris (NES) should be on this list. It was made w/o license and pulled immediately...making it extremely rare back then. It was even better than the NES licensed version.
stadium events on ebay was up to 100,000 in an auction last i saw it
Do you have battletoads?
Far cry 6
Battletoeds is cheap
Moral of the story, Atari 2600 entire game collection is expensive as fuck
Did anyone else expect to see Conker's Bad Fur Day on the list?
I've heard Waterworld for the Atari 2600 is very rare as well.
Atari Waterworld for the Atari 2600! Best game ever and even had cool prizes if you won.
the sport game for NES sold for 100k few days ago.
I have Dr Mario for Gameboy didn't know it was one of the reproduction tournament games
What about Metal Slug for the Neo Geo AES?
LOTR BFME2 that is going to be pretty rare for a legit copy soon, real copies are going for 100 to 200 pounds currently on ebay few more years and they will be in the thousands.
My dad has or at least had Pepsi invaders use to play it growing up
even though i have none of these games on the list, i remember taking all my NES games to funco land years ago and selling them all for $1 a piece, with just enough money to buy a few used genesis games which is what i was playing at the time. :( only games i have worth anything is demon crest on snes worth about 90 and megaman legends 2 for playstation worth about 60. im rich!
Watchmojo! I got a top 10 idea! Top 10 Duos in Hollywood
Call it what you will, but basically take the top 10 actors that work really well with another.
two examples being Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, then James Franco and Seth Rogan.
Just an idea.
I wouldn't mind seeing another version of this list. Maybe console specific. I consider MJ Walker and Hyperstone Heist collectables. Not that rare though
All I can think of is a rare and good game I eventually played cougharomofcough:
Hagane, SNES.
A Blockbuster Video exclusive game, it was technically _never sold at all,_ and only rented. Probably only sold when Blockbusters started phasing out SNES games and sold them (if not destroyed...), it's a beautiful game with insane difficulty.
OMG it's the gold NWC cart!
X-Zone for the SNES PAL. No numbers, But probably less then 2000 copies.
I opened a new browser and opened ebay. I could not find many of these games, just #8, #6, and #3. I know that Pat the NES Punk has both a grey and gold Nintendo Championships cartridge.
I bet you any amount of money that if you tried to take this to a gamestop, they wouldn't even accept it because its not "Next Gen"
There are only 8 of a special Gold Cartridge for Rock Man 4 (Megaman 4), that were given to the 8 kids who designed the Robot Master bosses for the game.
James Rolfe has a golden NWC Cartridge!
Cheetahman 2
What about making a list of mass-produced games that are now rare and/or collectible? The gold cartridges of both N64 Legend of Zelda games would make the list.
Did I hear correctly? 500K? Damn, that's expensive. I also noticed that they're all80's/early90's games, obviously 'cause they're the more rarer ones. I sold a copy of Stadium Mud Buggies for Intellivision (cart only) for $130 on ebay. 96% Rarity.
What would be more expensive? A rare game from the past or a popular game from the future?
What about Little Samson for the NES? I heard it's a pretty rare game (and pretty good too).
Must be fun to look for, but what will you do when you get it?
Well looks like its time to asemble a team of explorers to look down my basemant
Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt combo is extremely rare.. I heard someone paid $100,000 dollars for a copy.
I bet ultimate marvel vs capcom 3 will be worth something and rare in about 10-20 years
Good idea for a list ...
The E.T 2600 video game? That seems pretty rare!
There was many copies discovered in the landfill, don't you remember?
BlazinVoid oh ok
Cool! I probably don't have any of these.
You didn't notice anything else?
Like what?
Djpenquin999 You didn't scream "FIRST!!!".
Cool. If I did, I'd be spammed with hate.
Do a new one with modern games like Lord of the rings : Conquest
Someone I know has a copy of Kizuna Encounter for Neo Geo MVS and it's verified by the board that it is not a bootleg. Is it the MVS version or is there an AES version that is rare? Which one is the rare one?
AES
I suppose you could have added Rise and Fall: Civilizations at War
I do own one rare game, though it isn't worth it much now since it was a PlayStation 1 game.
It's Blasto for the PlayStation. A game long gone because the voice actor of Captain Blasto (Phil Hartman) was murdered by his wife :/
To anyone wondering the rarest and most legendary game is not listed on the list. Wasn't there an Uncharted game that came with an actual DAGGER KNIFE
hey do a top 10 foreign language songs in billboard charts!
