Got mine eight weeks ago. So far I really like it. I‘m in Germany, so got the bigger centre screen, which is awesome. Google Maps comes with a special ev trip calculator that will automatically include stops for charging and tells you everything you need to know, too, like with what soc you will arrive at your charging station, how long you will have to charge in order to reach the next stop etc. The rear view mirror actually doubles as a screen for a rear view camera which solves the issue with the small rear window. Awesome feature!
Thanks for your additions. I think it’s great car from Renault. With ICE cars I preferred German (sub)brands because of their styling and engineering qualities. But with EVs Renault strikes a good balance in still interesting but more refined timeless design, and probably their quality will be better than some of their horrible reliability issues in the past with ICE drivetrains and motor electrics (partly because their system is heavily based on Nissans technology who have great EV reliability and development history). However the high loading height with omission of a false floor is a deal breaker for me. It only needed to cost like 300 euro to fit a false floor and some mounting points to give it a more efficient, better organisable and more ergonomic trunk, and an easy flat load area with seats folded. I use it a lot in my current car. Hopefully they will add in a mid cycle refresh. And throw in a passenger seat handle as well.
4:14 Being able to change the sound of the parking sensor audio is GREAT. For someone who is hard of hearing, sometimes the alert sound selected by the manufacturer is completely inaudible. Providing a few to choose from makes it more likely there is one within an audible frequency range.

i feel like you missed to mention , that the rearview mirror, actually is a monitor, and hooked up to a rear facing camera, that kind of makes the small window okay.... as long as the lense is clear ofcourse
We had a megane scenic, years ago. The killer feature was that the central seat in the rear could come forward of the outer seats, and it had a roof-mounted inertial reel belt. So we could get three stage one baby seats in the back. Handy if you have triplets. ;-) It was a nice car overall, too. Enough space in the back for a triple buggy, too, and drove well.
From £35000 for the base model to £41000 for the launch addition😫 For a basic small hatchback the price is a joke. Welcome to the world of electric vehicles for the masses.
Here in the Middle East and other parts is Asia the Megane is actually a family sedan which isn’t electric , seems crazy manufacturers like changing names around 😅
Your megane sedan is actually the coupé version of the hatchback megane we have in europe This brand new megane is totally different than the original megane we have in France, like a new model
Renault have done a great job with this Megane EV. And look, no quarter windows! See, _is_ possible and its side profile looks so much better for that!
It is a beautiful looking car but how on earth do these manufacturers justify the prices these days? There is absolutely no way the cost prices comes remotely close to the sale price. There must be a huge profit margin in new cars these days
Hey Mat, you forgot something important! The rearview mirror is capable of displaying the rear camera image... this makes up for the bad visibility. Love your videos btw.
Honestly, 3 out of the 5 cool things on this one are really irrelevant. The ridge on the door handle is groundbreaking though. More carmakers should do that.
I’ve ordered one. I only wanted a hatchback rather than a crossover or SUV so smaller size suits me. Arguably the Cupra Born is a better all round car, especially if you are carrying teenage children or young adults as rear seat passengers. Cabin a bit gloomy but quality higher than in the Born. The Google Infotainment system is light years ahead of the VW group set up. I felt a stronger emotional attachment to the Megane than the Born. Neither the Megane nor the Born felt as fun to drive as my current BMW i3 nor as fast despite the i3 motor being nearly 50 bhp down on power - all down to the much higher weight of the Renault and Cupra. TBH at prices knocking on £40k it is difficult to make a case for the Megane unless you do a reasonably high mileage, can save a sizeable BiK tax bill and you can charge cheaply overnight or at work. Renault have done a very good job.
It seems to me that going electric is not about saving the planet, but about putting a massive price tag on a car that has a laughable range, a cheap and 'your-safety-wasn't-our-concern-at-all-when-designing' interiors (touch screens everywhere), horrible charging time, and minimal storage space. I know there are many electric-car enthusiasts here, but I'm the practicality-first kind of guy.
I was initially interested in this when the marketing shots started coming out. But could never work out how big it was and in the end realised it was actually a bit dinky. Besides, I hate how they have trimmed a lot of goodies from the UK spec. No big screen. No digital rear view mirror (apart from 300 launch spec). No HK sound. No leather seats. All feels a bit downgraded and not worth the money. I have a Kia Niro EV instead and love it. I made the right choice.
Renault said the reason for not offering the larger infotainment screen here in the UK, is down to complications when converting the car from left hand drive to right hand drive 🤷🏼
Another great review. Giving us two recommendations at the end based on different needs is a good idea. My current pet peeve.... Why do so many quite nice smaller E-cars NOT have electrically operated hatches? This is very frustrating. I and my family members are simply used to being able to get the liftgate up with no effort and thus having the flexibility of having full arms. Plus, having to use strength to pull it down again is a no-go for my wife, who has had carpal tunnel operations and has weak hands.
This is the best looking car of the year? Damn... What a period. Looks does not just concern the exterior, dampers, engine, exhaust, every parts have a role in the look.

1:01 Mat, do you remember, as an example, the Renault badge on the 21 model? On those older models, the Renault badge had many lines to make the Renault badge. This new badge, with only two lines, makes a through-back on that same badge - which I personally dislike, as it makes the brand look old, in a time where its design philosophy is trying to through the brand towards the front.
Great revue & lovely car. Any idea why the Silver Trim above the Glovebox on right hand drive models does'nt have an Ambient Light Strip as in the EU version? It's a shame that we don't get the EU spec here but I expect it would cost more to buy. A Panoramic Roof would be a nice option too as my last few cars have had this fitted

Lets see how the electrics go on these new ones
The car market has become such a sad thing. £35 for average cars is insane. The manufacturers are just taunting people to take out PCPs now. So sad.....
Sometimes it feels like these things get engendered & designed without people ever sitting in the things or using them; crap rear seats, 3 stalks on the right one on the left, no frunk, crap visibility 😐 Create a car packaged around the person AND how they use it, then engineer/design around that. Those types of people will love the challenge. We have VR now for rapid prototyping and testing! Frunk = storage for your cable when your boot is full of crap. Be able to see all around the car = safety/ease-of-use
What kind of cameras does itt have? Do we have 360° visibility with the camera? Can I turn on the camera with the press of a button like the Nissan? Does the camera com on automatically in tight spaces like toll booths and parking garage entrances?

There are talks about an electric sandero apparently (a rebadged zoe I imagine when the R5 will arrive)
@@purwantiallan5089 OK...?
Hot cakes? Renault is unreliable as sh*t.
i feel like you missed to mention , that the rearview mirror, actually is a monitor, and hooked up to a rear facing camera, that kind of makes the small window okay.... as long as the lense is clear ofcourse
it's only available on the top spec, he had a mid spec
We have been absolutely shafted with the UK spec, the euro spec is so much better value!
The car maybe good, but the electric configuration killed the beauty of Renault itself.
Brexit for you, weak uk pound etc
@@crimsonpirate1710 no their just lazy
punishment because you use imperial units and drive on the wrong side of the road :)
@@XzzVttll Interesting comment. But doesn’t the rest of the world use wheel sizes and infotainment screen sizes in inches? Mmmmm, strange that.
It looks like one of those cars from those futuristic movies.
You mean like "Back to the Future" movies?
It has been one million subs ago since you made your intro, great job!! Keep on uploading this great content
Classic style fused with futuristic tones makes the interior inviting as for the the wheel, it's like stepping back in time, thanks Mat
Renault Megane E2 i think its like 5.1/10. It maybe futuristic but the front end looked like it came out from KTM.
From £35000 for the base model to £41000 for the launch addition😫 For a basic small hatchback the price is a joke. Welcome to the world of electric vehicles for the masses.
Europe does not have Lithium... nor does it have petrol btw.
At least prices should go down and you don't have to pay for petrol.
Here in the Middle East and other parts is Asia the Megane is actually a family sedan which isn’t electric , seems crazy manufacturers like changing names around 😅
Your megane sedan is actually the coupé version of the hatchback megane we have in europe
This brand new megane is totally different than the original megane we have in France, like a new model
Its because the Megane has two versions, Sedan/Coupe or Hatchback.
you are just getting a model that stopped selling in France, that's all no mystery there.
@@PsYDaniel i prefer hatchback instead.
@@youli5765 the Megane sedan doesnt pack a lot of performance spec compared to Gordini.
Renault have done a great job with this Megane EV. And look, no quarter windows! See, _is_ possible and its side profile looks so much better for that!
it looks amazing my neighbor has one and am amazed every time I see this car but he has this cool yellow Renault badge
This car looked like a downgraded Renault R8 Gordini.
It is a beautiful looking car but how on earth do these manufacturers justify the prices these days? There is absolutely no way the cost prices comes remotely close to the sale price. There must be a huge profit margin in new cars these days
Renault makes some of the coolest looking cars!
Yeah but they build quality is woeful
You said that about the video review a few days ago..🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 only a bot you would say that🙄
Hey Mat, you forgot something important! The rearview mirror is capable of displaying the rear camera image... this makes up for the bad visibility.
Love your videos btw.
The interior chapter was like a bonus 5 Annoying Things.
It’s massive. More of a crossover suv nowadays then a hatchback
35 000 Pounds for a compact car with a limited rear space? That is crazy. 😈😈😈
Matt never runs out of "5 annoying things and 5 cool things" whenever he reviews any car😹
He does trap a lot of seatbelts in a lot of rear seats, though.
Honestly, 3 out of the 5 cool things on this one are really irrelevant. The ridge on the door handle is groundbreaking though. More carmakers should do that.
Thanks for checking this one out!
Mat thank you so much for this insane video!
ua-cam.com/video/m0WuosF9aT8/v-deo.html
@Bowie I know, the mind boggles 😂
@Bowie every f#cking video its insane.. it's a bot
@Bowie well its too insane in fact.
Renault Megane E2 for me is quite dull to drive.
What a lazy reason
LOL it's just another French engineering quirk
Another great review. Giving us two recommendations at the end based on different needs is a good idea. My current pet peeve.... Why do so many quite nice smaller E-cars NOT have electrically operated hatches? This is very frustrating. I and my family members are simply used to being able to get the liftgate up with no effort and thus having the flexibility of having full arms. Plus, having to use strength to pull it down again is a no-go for my wife, who has had carpal tunnel operations and has weak hands.
When you move from Europe to America, you miss a lot of things.... Renault!
Skoda. Ain’t no Skodas in the US
Moi je resre ici ! Jamais je quitte ma 308 !!
Renault is made by Nissan. It's our Ayria
When your wife is Canadian and you left France 10 years ago to be with her...
Why would you miss Renault?! Great cars up to the early 2000s, but they've become really boring over the past years.
In 20 years it came from car of the year popular hatchback to a electric suv than nobody can buy in France
It looks good but the design confuses me. It looks more like a crossover suv than the usual hatch that I thought a Megane was
The design looked like its quite unfinished for a new Renault car.
This is the best looking car of the year? Damn... What a period.
Looks does not just concern the exterior, dampers, engine, exhaust, every parts have a role in the look.
Now imagine this thing with dual motors for all wheel drive. Like a 2x217hp RS version. That'd be sweet.
Can tell when Matt isn’t too keen on the car as he lets his bias determine his tone. He’s less enthusiastic - which is a shame as should give unbiased reviews
@@undercovercucumber7345 no thanks. I was referring to this one only. His reviews are usually amazing and addresses things that other don’t - such as actual practicality and living with the car. So no, they don’t suck. Suggest you go and put your unfounded insults and slander on another page because it won’t work here.
@@asingh7878 The quality of his reviews have degraded and are not on par today with some others, that do adress more things than his.
If you check other reviews (like the one I recommanded), you'll see that you missed a lot of important things about this car, such as the quality infotainment system and trip planning (which is so important in an electric car), etc.

The only problem in this new Renault Megane is the space in back seats!
This comment came up before you could see the whole of the video🤔 so how would you know.. BOT
lovely review, thanks. but I keep missing decent shots of the interior from the drivers perspective. Now I see many minutes of 1 angle where I basically dont see the interior, but just Matt.
I've had it for three days now. Love it so far.
The new tchno and iconc models now have the lager screen and heat pump on all versions.
Matt:" Renault had always good looking cars". Renault Megane 2nd generation, vel Satis and Avantime left the chat :D
The badge is a throwback to the 70's Renault badge
For EV this is definently the looking car for now
Drove this car .. and must say.. feels amazing.. has enough power..
The wheels look absolutely massive! I like it
According to a friend who works at Renault UK the megane e tech is not the new megane or megane replacement it is its own car. There is apparently a mk5 megane coming most likely phev
best looking electric car around !!!
"Not sure how the badge is retro"? Matt I know your oldrnough to remember when the original Renault logo had bands three bands it in before they changed it to a solid diamond.
What I expect from a car in this class is to NOT cost 35k without options for a base line model! Dacia, hello!
Given the trend to ever bigger cars, it's great to see real compact cars again with EVs! Also it looks so much better than
Could you do a side by side test and drag race of this, the mg4 and other ev hatchbacks?
Or this vs Renault R8 Gordini vs TVR Tamora?
I love that the driving scenes of a French electric SUV were shot by cameras mounted to a German luxury limousine
French cars have gotten much better in recent years
ua-cam.com/video/m0WuosF9aT8/v-deo.html
Like they were in the past. I hope they do the same with quality
Yeah Renault really dropped the ball in the mid 90's and started making shiit unreliable cars. Tbey passed that disease onto nissan when they took them over in 1998 and nissan has been shiit too since. Shame as i owned a great 1986 R5 and a 1991 Clio. Havnt looked at Renault since... Lets see how the electrics go on these new ones
The car market has become such a sad thing. £35 for average cars is insane. The manufacturers are just taunting people to take out PCPs now. So sad.....
I love this car, what a beauty!!! Bravo, Renault!!!
Maybe from outside but interior is dogwater
Sometimes it feels like these things get engendered & designed without people ever sitting in the things or using them; crap rear seats, 3 stalks on the right one on the left, no frunk, crap visibility 😐 Create a car packaged around the person AND how they use it, then engineer/design around that. Those types of people will love the challenge. We have VR now for rapid prototyping and testing!
Frunk = storage for your cable when your boot is full of crap.
Be able to see all around the car = safety/ease-of-use
I really like the looks and the price seems quite reasonable for an EV, considering what you get.
Lovely car. But shame about the smaller screens , hard plastic and manual seats. Especially in light of model 3 price coming down.
This new Renault Megane is a good family SUV!
What ?! Good ?! Where ?!
You will never know...
What kind of cameras does itt have? Do we have 360° visibility with the camera? Can I turn on the camera with the press of a button like the Nissan? Does the camera com on automatically in tight spaces like toll booths and parking garage entrances?
Best looking real-world EV out there.
Ioniq 5 look better 😍
Look great in the flesh. Saw one in France the other week. Def some competition to the Stellantis(?) Citroen/Peugeot/Vauxhall/Opel/Fiat variations on a theme in same mkt sector. IMO
The best looking Car. I love this car.
Oi, Watson. You are the best motoring journalist in the world in perpetuity and I sometimes wish you were my dad or maybe a cool uncle or something, but you never chuck a big bulky stroller in the boot of the cars you review and that greatly disappoints me.
