I was second caller today and basically wanted to inform everyone this was the advice I needed. 15 months I just “bought” for taking the 5k hit on the car. Already looking to sell it. Thank you team.
Glad to hear! I wasn’t sure because you started going silent when John was laying into you. You could tell he just wanted what was best for you! Wishing you the absolute best and I hope you can sell the car for a good price!
LOL, it works for you but some people don't need advice unless it's extremely serious, advising some certain people is useless and turns off arrogant. I for once do advice people on how to invest but stopped until some start calling me names.
I really appreciate that people are willing to call in, write in and share their stories. Not easy. Their stories educate. Even if its a case of what not to do. We've all been there one way or another.
Fantastic...Powerful strategy!!! Thank you very much for the clear concise explanation!! You are a good person and the first I've come across without expecting any money from beginners like us who are already struggling providing for our families. God bless you.
John Deloney is more than just a great dad and great husband. Learning more about him as a son of a homicide detective ..helping people in the worst emotional crisis of their life..no wonder he often says "breathe ". That is well.based advice from his amazing background. Phenomenal man.
My favorite duo!!! Praying for Jackie. The “I’ll handle so I don’t have to fight with you” should have been a major red flag right there. After my Mom passed away in 2017, my Dad & I closed rank/teamed up pretty quickly and were completely transparent with each other when it came to the bills. Now that I’m living on my own, I’m finally getting started on the baby steps.
I worked as a speech language pathologist 3 days a week for a few hours doing early intervention while my kids were little and they stayed with babysitter. Was able to bring in about 30k and it really helped
Kelly - she's an adult. It's not up to you to fix everyone. When someone is ready, he or she will ask. One of the best ways I've been able to talk to my friends about money is when we go out to lunch, I order an appetizer and ice water. My friend then asks why I'm not getting a full entree and I explain that's a good way that I have to go out with friends and still watch my budget. That generally leads into a discussion about budgets or finances. (But I do leave a good tip for the waitress.) Small choices can lead to savings pretty quickly.
The caller that finished up at 1:12:40 I resonate with somewhat. But thankfully things turned around before my dad died. the first time I remember my dad telling me he loved me was shortly after I turned 20 and was living in another sate. But he and I built a good relationship over the next 14 and a piece years he had. M dad had some amazing qualities and I am thankful how well I got to know him after that letter.
I love to see Bo & Sarah's relationship. What an example! My wife and I are on the same page on this Debt Free journey too and it has brought us so close together. Thanks Ramsey and thank you God!
Honest question: how can you claim there is an moral issue using credit card points because they're funded by people paying interest, and then cheer for the Georgia Hope Scholarship which is funded by people playing (and losing) the lottery?
40:05 Am I the only one uncomfortable with the idea of a Structural Engineer grinding out over 75 hours a week for side hustles in Uber and pizza delivery? I mean, when I'm driving over a bridge, I'd prefer that the Structural Engineer in charge was well-rested
Yesss! I just listened to the show and felt really bad for this guy, he sounds exhausted already. I think if the wife takes in a couple of kids doing daycare while he's at work, that money could go to paying off their student loans. That sounds like a much better solution than putting the kids in daycare and the wife going to work, and the husband working extra hours.. they could also take in dogs on the weekends. There are other solutions, instead of giving the dad an early heart attack from overwork.. Come on man!
I also don't want tired health care workers (nurses, anesthesiologists, doctors, surgeons, techs of any kind) being involved in my care or my loved ones care.
Yup! I’m dealing with this rn.. I’m sure I’ll take care of it but had I saved 3 to 6 months emergency funds I could have bought a used car out of pocket when I wrecked my last one 🤦♂️
Yes, they do. I upgraded my 2002 Civic to a 2021 Accord with cash. The manual transmission was failing, and the cost to repair was more than the car was worth. We'd been putting money in our new car sinking fund for years, so it was easy. We also got my husband a 2021 Jeep Wrangler to replace his 2010 with over 250,000 miles and costly repairs needed. Again, paid for with cash from the sinking fund. Since those purchases, we already have money in our car fund for one vehicle (which we won't need for years). Intentionality is key.
How do people refi the house without their spouse there? I've heard that a few times. I always had to be there. I even heard one lady say specifically she was on the loan.
1st caller. Leave it alone unless she’s asking you for money. Be her friend and accept she may not live the way you live when it comes to finances. If she sends you a pic of something she purchased. Respond with “that’s cute!” If it’s a cute item. She’s an adult
The last caller resonates with si many. People often struggle with the guilt of success. Should not be a sentence. Should be a reward for good decisions.
32:30 In most cases I believe what they are saying about new cars. But if your frugal and find new cars like I do for 22-24k, and drive them for 7 -8 years and put 250k on them I dont believe the deprieciation as much. Yes if u buy new and sell it rather quick, of course. Also in my situation I work 50-100 miles round trip and sometimes thru big cities late at night, the new/newer car security is worth more than my 300 month payment. The "hooptie" 2000 dollar car Dave Ramsey likes to talk about is great if your from his hometown where u drive 5 miles to work and you drive past 3 people who do car repair in their front yard for 150 bucks and a case of beer. To others like me its 800. I drive them until the repair bills per month start becoming as much as a car payment. The peace of mind is worth more than 300 month to me......Yes I agree most of these callers buy 75k vehicles which is nuts in most cases Or go to CarMax and buy a 1 yr old car for 18k, and sell your used car privately for 3k, cheap payments, this is only my personal belief that peace of mind out weighs " low" car payments, notice I said low not $650. If we're talking straight finances only, I agree a new car is not the smartest decision, but are you comfortable with your wife or daughter driving around your grandchildren in a 220k mile 13 year old Subaru? I'm not sold on that option
😢 inappropriate for John Delaney to say that he's a grown man and an implied that you know and tell him his mommy that's a definite put down your parents become your friends once you're all adults His parent is a valid person to speak with about that😊
Jackie - if you get the debt paid off and the house paid off by working hard the next decade, you will find that you can live on a lot less once that happens. You DON'T have to be a millionaire to retire happily - so get to work on the debt and paying off the house (even if you downsize to a smaller house.) I would NOT get an apartment if there is any way you can pay off a house before retirement. It's much easier to live in retirement with modest income and a paid-for house than it is to rent when the rent keeps going up each year. This is not just the husband's fault - he may have been trying different strategies to meet how the wife wanted to live. We don't know. But it was also HER responsibility to check on the family finances.
John tells the young man that the young man doesn't know what his dad is going through, then proceeds to act like he knows exactly what the young man is going through after a 30 second phone conversation 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Speech-Language Pathology can get part-time work. But she has to work just like they suggest. That is why I tell my sons living near family support is important. I can take care of the kids during the day and the mother-in-law has a part-time job and she can take care of the kids when she can. Family support is soooo important at these times. I hope they have this.
My favorite duo!!! Such a great show today. Also, people seeing this comment get @GeorgeKamel’s new book. It’s AMAZING. His humor, snark, and intelligence has made this book so enjoyable. Dare I say better than Dave’s original TMMO or any financial book at Ramsey for that matter.
I like George, didn't like when Dave got upset about advice he gave (he wasnt with him) but Dave's human and he has a temper. I hope he apologized off the show. It made youtubes all the over because George is loved and his advice was fine (just not 100% Dave's) What Dave wants is clones but different shapes and sizes and colors to appeal to different people. They can have a little wiggle room.
I haven’t got the book yet but I love that DR has made a very special point of saying that George’s book is fantastic and that he’s proud of it. That really says something. Dave doesn’t idly give out compliments to people in order to make them feel good. Well deserved!
I am driving my 2008 Kia Optima W 145,000 miles on it, that was a demo on the lot w 23,000 miles on it and dents included but it is paid off. My husband bought him a new 2017 shiny blue pickup and finally got the loan paid off. No more brand new cars for us now that we have finally decided to work on our goal of retiring as a team and yes talking about our finances 😉. We’ve been married for 44 years but have had lots of distractions, he worked our carpet cleaning business and I was the secretary but also raising 2 children, helped raise 2 grandsons by being free daycare until pre-K and the last 7 years I was a full time caregiver for my 88 year old daddy, who suffers with Alzheimer’s 😢. But now that he has to have 24 hr care and my husbands health is getting worse he is living in an Alzheimer’s unit nearby. So, now it’s finally time for us as truly empty nesters.❤❤ 6:11
@@deb9806 Yes, he can be a hot head, some of that he admits, but he likes George. He was angry though, Rachel tried to smooth it out. She challenges him softly at times.
@@BeeDee-qs9so Yes, I'm sure it's a great book but it's sales for Ramsey, he pumps up everyone's books and gives them away for others to encourage other to buy it. One time someone said they got it at Goodwill type of place and he didn't say he was glad, was just quiet. He's human and every sale helps them, being generous with gifts helps them. That said, George is very likable and I think if I met him at a bank etc, I'd feel comfortable talking to him vs the 3 piece suit or stuffy guy talking above my head.
the wisest thought that is in everyone's minds today is to invest in different income flows that do not depend on the Government, especially with the current economic crisis around the world, this is still a good time to invest and trade in gold, stock and digital currencies (BTC, ETH)
Hello, I am very interested. As you know there are so many investment out there, and without solid Knowledge, I can't Decide what is the best. you can only be favoured if a great financial Advisor got you covered!
Investing and trading in gold, stock and digital currencies now will be the wisest thing to do now, especially with the current economic fluctuation and high inflation
I know it's not popular, however I went to work at the state last year, 3 payments in to PSLF and am 67 and a 160k+ student loan on a income driven payment, entry level salary of 40k with the ability to promote a little with my mba. If I don't make it 10 years, I will die with it. Unfortunately, I will not be able to make enough to pay it off any other way. Just now starting the snowball on 45k debt beside the student loan.
Why do cars depreciate so much and real estate appreciates beyond reason? I don’t understand. Go ahead and laugh at me, trolls. I’m trying to learn on this channel.
It’s all about Supply and Demand. With houses, there’s not that many getting built anymore, and on top of that, there’s limited land available for new houses to be built on. With cars, they’re constantly getting built, and there’s typically a new model coming out every year. Also, the wear and tear, combined with the maintenance, on a car is usually constant.
Finally getting some traction with my husband who wanted to buy a new car. I grew up in a wealthy family, but we always bought used... always! We just could not get over how much the car depreciates in the first couple of years to say, "Yeah, let's buy a vehicle that won't be worth anything in a few years. "... crazy. My current vehicle I have had for about 13 years now and I bought it used for 10k. Hope to get a few more years before buying another used vehicle. Thankfully, I got my husband to agree to buying used... he keeps trying to tell me used cars aren't dependable... marketing is so full of bs. I dont want to spend money that I worked hard for to fly out the window. Sometimes, I have to really stand my ground with him because his poor upbringing shows, and I have to kindly but firmly tell him, "we aren't doing that." I really think its an ego thing. He thinks because we have the money we should spend it on new, and Im thinking about how much money we lose in retirement from not investing that 30k... trash your egos folks. You wont regret it when you come to retirement and the money is waiting for you.
I don't think my friend's finances are my business. Of course if they ask, you can give direction, that's it. Same with the other topics, you can express concern, and that's it. I don't think someone's addictions, financial problems or infidelity are mine to fix.
At 29:30 minute mark. George says backdown Roth is simple. You NEVER discuss the tax trap of the aggregation rule. Please be careful folks. Overly simplistic recommendation.
It would be a miracle if kids would take the time to consider their parents as people. ..actual consider their parents coping mechanisms/motivation/fears/dreams.
I think it takes a level of audacity to think you can give a friend (or anyone other than a spouse) unasked-for financial advice. Mind your own business if someone hasn't asked for help or advice.
@@workinprogress-ye5or exactly. That's why I said "unasked-for" advice. If someone were to ask for help, advice or money, then I would have a conversation. Otherwise, it's none of my beeswax.❤️

Can someone pls answer this question about the 15% of the income invested to 401k or 457b. Will that be a total of me and my wife Gross income or 15% each a total of 30%?
@davidduncan3620 thanks for the reply. Can we count the employer match to the total of 15%? Also another question, my wife has a 15k loan fr her 401k. She's paying $326 bi-weekly and also investing 6% on top of that $326. So my question is, is it okay if im contributing just about 8.5% on my income until she paid her 401k loan?ty
38:00 Why are we making babies and then later asking ourselves questions like: 1. Who’s going to raise them? (The Bible, nature, common sense, statistics teach us that mommies raise little children.) 2. How much money will they cost? 3. How many hours will we work? 4. When are we paying off our debt? Etc. Come on people. I lose my patience when children get brought into these nutty situations. Children need their mothers to raise them; full stop. So, dad go out and bust your ass, and then have mom work Saturdays and 2-3 evenings when dad can be home. Somebody else may raise YOUR children for you 1-2 days a week tops. Furthermore, adults recognize the reality of trade-offs in life. If we make children then we don’t go to grad school, because the children need to be . . . parented.
They do have a lot more ads lately, good for them I guess. Sometimes I spend too much time FF through Rachel's books and games, blinds, etc sometimes, it's background so I leave it.
I freaking hate when John recommends childcare. Like he's supposed to be a mental health professional. I need him to do more research on the impact daycare can have on some kids.
Not everyone can stay at home with their kids. No mental health professional will tell someone just to stay at home with their kids while they’re financially struggling to the point they can’t pay their bills and they are stressed. I think you need to do some research on the data of stressed parents interacting with the kids and the downstream effects it has on a child. So you’re just going to have to get over it!
@@flashthecorgi2053 I said "some" kids to avoid generalizations so please acknowledge that before telling me to "get over it". Not everyone wants to or can stay home. I'm aware of that. But in this case that he recommended it definitely sounded doable for that couple. If it adds a year to the debt journey that could be a good alternative to childcare for them. That wasn't suggested. That mom wants to be home and it sounded doable. So them pushing childcare again wasn't appropriate in that situation.
@@Allybaba55 NO, it’s not “doable” stressing the guy out who’s an engineer is not cool at all. She made this mess of student loans, why can’t she be apart of it for 12 months and clean it up? The kid will be fine. I promise you it will be worse when mom resents dad because he’s never home, and dad is always stressed because he never gets to be home with his family. Trust me, the data is worse with parents being stressed all the time. They can find a reliable, trustworthy family member, nanny, or daycare and she can earn some money to pay the loans off. At that point she can stay home with her babies. Also, what I said get over is “I freaking hate when John recommends childcare” that’s going to happen so either watch or don’t but stop complaining.
@@flashthecorgi2053 I'm allowed to comment and "complain' just like you are allowed to complain about my complaining 😅😅 I'm a therapist and a parent and have done plenty of research on both topics as well as personally experiencing and witnessing it. We are all allowed to have opinions (welcome to UA-cam comment sections) so just disagree with me and move on rather than do your own complaining if you hate complaining so much lol
@@Allybaba55please tell me as a therapist that you don’t tell parents who are stressed to the max to stay at home with the kids only because you don’t like childcare? They have SIX figures of student loan debt. Why don’t you look at the research of kids being around stressed and anxious parents that are struggling financially. They clearly already have a kid in some type of child care since he’s two so I’m sure he’s being taken care of fine.
At 22:50 I find it outrageous that John would suggest Jackie’s husband has an addiction or IS IN LOVE WITH SOMEONE ELSE!! What the heck?! He says this irresponsibly and impulsively with no proof of such serious allegations. That’s just not right. This dude needs to be reigned in because he often seems to speak without thinking. I hope Jackie wasn’t too taken aback by his comments and that she is able to find some good advice somewhere in the convoluted response to her question and that she and her husband can get their finances in order TOGETHER.
Telling someone to sell it (which he’s right) is not being a jerk. Dr. D is the kindest guy who genuinely loves helping people. I mean the caller literally commented just a few hours ago thats the advice they needed. Just because it’s the truth doesn’t mean he’s a jerk. In fact, I will tell you he is NOT.

@@BeeDee-qs9so Oh, I mean I wouldn't give my friend advice if I were her. Things would have to be really bad for me to give her advice when she obviously doesn't want it.
@@BeeDee-qs9so Well, I am slightly conflicted because if you really care I suppose you should tell them, haha. However, I just don't know how many people have friends close enough to be that honest with them. Lol
2nd caller. Why did he call that man broke when he has a 400k net worth even with having this car? LOL The way they were talking is as if this is a person making minimum wage with tons of debt
I disagree that this is Jackie’s fault as well as her husband’s. HE’S the one who stole. She trusted her husband because she was taught to be subservient to him. It’s the “good wife” role. My father did this to my mother and she was on the hook for it all. No wonder she is bitter whenever his name is mentioned. I’m really happy to hear such progressive attitudes from you two conservative men. :)
I wish Jon didn’t come off so arrogant. Unfortunately, even if he has sound advice, he is tone deaf and sounds rude much of the time. My husband and I are to the point that we skip every show he is on…..just can’t do it.
I agree that buying a new car is a bad financial decision. However not everyone buys a cars to flex on people to showcase their wealth. They actually love their vehicles and telling a guy or woman to sell his or her sports car to buying a Camry will make him or her rebellious. Even though it’s a better financial decision, but on the same note they can get the same car after someone else took the hit lol
I love my vehicle, too - a 2007 Honda which is still in pristine condition with all original hubcaps, no tears in the leather, even the exterior paint, with over 265.000 miles! Although today when I went in for an oil change I was disappointed not to be the high mileage of the day - a guy before me had 315,000! If I ever want a new car, I think I'm going to have to shoot mine to make it die! I have saved so much money with that car by not (yet) having to buy a new one.
@@Trustbutverify2651 every time I want a new car I look at the price and calculate the depreciation on it and it changes my mind every time. I glad your car still kicking it
$42,000 is NOT much for a car. Have you shopped for cars recently?? His car is not 1/2 of his annual invome..What are you saying? You guys are not good at car shopping...I guess it depends on where live.
Your Assets…which include everything you own, less what you Owe….and the assets definitely include your house. But I think you are correct in that there are more millionaires than ever before, and that maybe in the long term, it’s just the beginning of saving for even longer-term security.
@@BeeDee-qs9so They count the house but I wouldn't personally. I would think I was if my liquid assets in my bank account etc were a milliion. I know people who have a house now worth 500.000 (bought at 325,00 I think)and they have over 200,000 in 401 K each and savings. They are comfortable but not what people think of "millionaires". It sounds good though.
@@workinprogress-ye5orI agree. The word millionaire doesn’t have the same dynamic as years ago because of the cost of living and all….but it’s the difference in concept rather than actual numbers. Net worth is what a bank looks at, and their process in determining net worth would include everything from value of a beater car to a luxury vehicle and would also include your house. But yes, we need to not get too intoxicated with the word “millionaire.” 😂
It's not about being a lot of money. Those that think of it in those terms are just wrong. The point about being a millionaire is it's a goal. Something to aim for when you have less. It's a milestone, and crossing into 7-figure net worth is definitely an indication you are heading in the correct direction. Nobody ever said it is the finish line.
I would count the house because not having a mortgage is one less (major) expense in retirement so it does contribute to your success. And if you had to sell it to live in a long term care facility or something you’d have access to all of that equity.
I never comment but I didn’t like the way you both laughed at and talked down to older guy grant that called needing you’re help not you making jokes at his lack of savings etc/what he’s been doing with his life etc wasn’t nice I’m sure he already regrets not having savings

JBD - I listened to see if he could make it through the live stream without mentioning "breathe/breath" - he couldn't 🤣
John needs to relax sometimes and actually listen to the caller and stop just assuming everything is deeper than it actually is Geesh man!
Thus the expression: “When you’re a hammer, everything becomes a nail”…(definitely paraphrasing here)
The last caller resonates with si many. People often struggle with the guilt of success. Should not be a sentence. Should be a reward for good decisions.
I really love George lol 😂 good guy.

In most cases I believe what they are saying about new cars. The peace of mind is worth more than 300 month to me......Yes I agree most of these callers buy 75k vehicles which is nuts in most cases
Or go to CarMax and buy a 1 yr old car for 18k, and sell your used car privately for 3k, cheap payments, this is only my personal belief that peace of mind out weighs " low" car payments, notice I said low not $650. If we're talking straight finances only, I agree a new car is not the smartest decision, but are you comfortable with your wife or daughter driving around your grandchildren in a 220k mile 13 year old Subaru? I'm not sold on that option
57:26, Ramsey Team, please ask John to not interrupt his co-host. That came off as pretty rude.
😢 inappropriate for John Delaney to say that he's a grown man and an implied that you know and tell him his mommy that's a definite put down your parents become your friends once you're all adults His parent is a valid person to speak with about that😊
I agree. Why not share that info with your parents. It does not mean your a child.
Another awesome show fellas!!! 👏 ❤
This was a good show!!
Hey @Ramsey can you make the EveryDollar app available in Canada?
John tells the young man that the young man doesn't know what his dad is going through, then proceeds to act like he knows exactly what the young man is going through after a 30 second phone conversation 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Crystal from Portland should give generously to get over her "poverty mindset" if she's so well off.
Maybe Sean shouldn't be having more kids if him and his family are this broke 🤔
Speech-Language Pathology can get part-time work. But she has to work just like they suggest. That is why I tell my sons living near family support is important. I can take care of the kids during the day and the mother-in-law has a part-time job and she can take care of the kids when she can. Family support is soooo important at these times. I hope they have this.
Great advice if the in-laws want or are able to help. Not all do.
I'm sorry to hear that you are advising children to have babies when they cannot afford them either financially or time wise to have children..

I am driving my 2008 Kia Optima

Sometimes, I have to really stand my ground with him because his poor upbringing shows, and I have to kindly but firmly tell him, "we aren't doing that."
I really think its an ego thing. He thinks because we have the money we should spend it on new, and Im thinking about how much money we lose in retirement from not investing that 30k... trash your egos folks. You wont regret it when you come to retirement and the money is waiting for you.
Take care
I could be wrong... but I think George came out with a new book
I don't think my friend's finances are my business. Of course if they ask, you can give direction, that's it. Same with the other topics, you can express concern, and that's it. I don't think someone's addictions, financial problems or infidelity are mine to fix.
Amen!
I owner financed my house for 10yrs at the same payment I was paying for rent. So owner finance is an option even if they don't like it
At 29:30 minute mark. George says backdown Roth is simple. You NEVER discuss the tax trap of the aggregation rule. Please be careful folks. Overly simplistic recommendation.

I think it takes a level of audacity to think you can give a friend (or anyone other than a spouse) unasked-for financial advice. Mind your own business if someone hasn't asked for help or advice.
Wow
Unless they ask you for money. Same with diet and exercise. You can lead by example but no one wants to be told they are a mess by someone else.

Can someone pls answer this question about the 15% of the income invested to 401k or 457b. Will that be a total of me and my wife Gross income or 15% each a total of 30%?
Yep. 15%of yours + 15% of hers = 15% of household income. That's the metric.
The Ramsey answer is to stop all investing until all debts, including the 401k loan, are paid off.
And no, employer match doesn’t count.

Why are we making babies and then later asking ourselves questions like:
1. Who’s going to raise them?
(The Bible, nature, common sense, statistics teach us that mommies raise little children.)
If we make children then we don’t go to grad school, because the children need to be . . . parented.
Dr John, you are amazing 👏
They do have a lot more ads lately, good for them I guess. Sometimes I spend too much time FF through Rachel's books and games, blinds, etc sometimes, it's background so I leave it.
Is Wise Spending a free document?
@@flashthecorgi2053 I'm allowed to comment and "complain' just like you are allowed to complain about my complaining 😅😅
I'm a therapist and a parent and have done plenty of research on both topics as well as personally experiencing and witnessing it.

Sarah, learn to let your husband talk.
