I had a pet peacefully pass away this weekend, and I got to say my goodbyes before he was gone. I just listened to this while looking back at the photos and videos I have of him. Thank you for giving sound to my emotion.

Over 25 years ago, I was at a Dental Convention in Toronto. I had a choice of going to see the Lion King play or Yoyo Ma. I went to see Yoyo Ma. You sir, have a rare talent. An ability to move an audience to tears and elation ! I was trained as a classical clarinetist. I took lessons from Zetzer, Johnson and Peterson and finally master classes from Marcelus , first chair in the Cleveland Orchestra. I once asked Mr. Zetser how he reacted to people falling asleep during his performance. He said that sleep is a legitimate response to relaxing music. BTW, one of my day dreams is to be you in concert .
Thank so, so much, Master Ma... listening in the awake of a sunny morning and have this piece/score from the amazing and MASTER BACH... my day started already full of the music joy, from the sound I do love it... a solo cello! Funny NOTE: I ended my day hearing cello...my daughter (13 years old) as preference to train her scores given by her's cello teacher! Still yesterday, she had her regular classes and a class that belongs to her music studies, and she was having the subject is Orquestra and belong to the classes that have all students together, like Choir! I so proud for being a mum of a couple, where the older son (19) was also a music/cello student! Love and kisses and stay all safe and well secured Susana from Porto, Portugal

There have been many great cellists throughout history, but Bach's Cello Suites will forever be definitively engrained and associated with the one and only Yo-Yo Ma. Much love and respect for spreading your love of music and bringing together people with your talents, Mr. Ma.
@@billburdick6136 I also love Pablo Casals, but for my personal taste on the Bach Suites it's Yo-Yo Ma's renditions that do it for me. Grew up in the 80/90s learning cello during the heyday of Ma's album releases. Perhaps it's also a bit nitpicky, but unfortunately the Casal recordings just aren't quite the same acoustic quality given their age.

Just lovely. I noticed your "non-traditional" bow hold straight away. Do you use this hold all the time? I'm a beginner at 51 and find the traditional bow hold almost impossible, so I get excited when I see professionals doing something different 😊

A google search said this. "He plays three instruments, a 2003 instrument made by Moes & Moes, a 1733 Montagnana cello from Venice, and the 1712 Davidoff Stradivarius." I assume this is the Stradivarius, but that is just a guess

I'm a cellist of 10 years, and wonderful Yo-Yo is using a Baroque bow hold, like they used over two hundred years ago.
